hush's 2x2 tent - Super Silver Haze - hempy buckets

I'm starting up a new round in my DR60. :blowbubbles:

This time around I am growing Super Silver Haze, by Dinafem. I've had this plant in my mother cab for a couple of years now, and still haven't flowered her out yet. So this grow will determine whether I keep this cut or not.

The tent is 2' x 2'. Lighting is 400w switchable HPS/MH, currently running MH. Hempy style, using 2 gal buckets. Medium is Cyco Coco Pearl, which is just coco mixed with a little perlite. Nutrient is Maxibloom powder, @ 5 grams per gallon for now. I use a 15 gallon aquarium as my reservoir, which has a power filter running for biological filtration. The aquarium is on the other side of the wall, in an adjacent utility closet, and irrigation is automated via a pump and a timer.

The clones are freshly rooted and were just planted last night. I expect to veg for about 3 or 4 weeks, and flowering will probably be 12 weeks or so... not exactly sure since I've never flowered this cut out before.

I shortened and tidied up the irrigation tubing today. Now it looks purty. The plants are growing fast, right off the mark! Not sure if that's testament to the strain or the coco.

I do not believe you will get any biological filtration with that aquarium set up. You need to put biology in it for it to be present and grow. I would recomend some cheap minors or fish from the fish store. Have your water temp in the right range also.

Nice setup! What are the ambient temps in the tent with that 400? I currently have the gorilla 2x2.5 with also a 400 and have temp prob. But working on it.
Are you going to train the plants?

The filter has been seeded with mulm from an established aquarium in my living room. Livestock don't need to be present for a nitrogen cycle to occur, and for bacteria to establish a colony in the filter. There is such a thing called "fishless cycling" in the aquarium hobby where you establish a bacterial colony in a new tank by just adding a nitrogen source. In my case, it's the ammoniacal nitrate in the maxibloom.

It hovers around 79-80*F with lights on, in a 75* room. I used to have problems with heat with other air cooled reflectors, but switching to a cool tube made all the difference. The heat doesn't get trapped in the hood, it all gets blown out. I get bleaching when the plants get within 12 inches of the light, but temperature wise they could grow right into the cool tube and not get burned.

Yes, I'll be training with LST.

Hush, I always enjoy your grows my man........subscribed! Good luck :tiphat:

Thank you my friend. :)

Hush, I do have a cool tube but I do also have a carbon filter before it and the blower after the cool tube.
Looking at the pics I don't see a filter. Are you using one? Could be that your setup is cooler cuz the air is going straight into tube and out? And that is one short tube! Who is the maker? I could barely fit my 19 1/2" (22" with flanges) in my tent.. I hope you get a heavy harvest!

Looking also at the pics. The difference between the ones on 3/2 and 3/5 that is one huge diff!! I grow with rock wool but these pics are making me reconsider. .. lol. Darn you Hush!

Hello Mr 23. :)

You are correct in that I don't have a carbon filter in the tent. This tent is inside a bedroom closet that has a large exhaust fan and carbon filter doing their thing. So I didn't need another one inside the tent. That being said, I still believe that this setup would work if I had a filter on the cool tube. It might require the next size fan up, but it could still work just fine. The cool tube I'm using is a no-name one that some guy on eBay makes and sells. I found it by searching for mini cool tube or something like that. It is better suited to a 150w bulb, but I was able to shove a 400 into it. The tip of the bulb is actually concealed by the ducting, because it protrudes from the tube, but there's still plenty of light. I don't have a link for it, but I'd bet the guy who sold them still sells them. They are definitely short! It's only like 12 inches long.

The growth rate you are talking about is even shocking me, man. I can't believe how fast they are growing! Hempy buckets do allow for fast growth, and this is my first time doing coco, which might be making it grow faster, but I honestly think the strain has a lot to do with it. Even as a mother plant it grows faster and needs more frequent waterings than the others. I'm guessing that super silver haze is just a vigorous strain?

Anyway, thanks for tagging along everybody. I'm hoping for 6 ounces out of this grow.

Holla Hush,
Yup genetics are key also. I remember seeing the cool tube on ebay but for some reason I went with the other cool tube instead. Lol I have same set up! Tent in a closet in my bedroom. If things continue at same rate without hiccups and with ssh being a good yielded I think you will pull closer to 7-8 lids. Where you on OG?

Yeah, I've been around since the overgrow days. Because of the fact that I was fresh out of high school back then, I made a lot of security mistakes that forced me to have to eventually reincarnate my online self... So I wasn't known as hush on OG. I think that's all I can really say about it. But yeah, I started growing in the mid 90s and learned most of what I know from Overgrow and Cannabis Culture.

If I can pull off 8 ounces I would be very happy. The main limiting factor here, in my opinion, is the small square footage. But yeah. I'll be super happy if I can bring in 8 oscars.

Coco makes for some very quick growth. In fact, it is often compared to hydro growth but with soil ease. By the way, aren't you worried of overgrowing the tent with a 4 week veg? I grow in a small space as well and 3 weeks are usually plenty enough with 1 plant per sq ft.

Well, that's why I said "3 or 4 weeks." I'm not locking it down to a number or anything... I will just be flowering them when appropriate. I've got a a lot of LST'ing to do before I will consider the space being filled. ;)

but i will say SSH stretches like theres no tomorrow !!! so flip'em short . or your going to be supercropping like a MOFO !!
i've run SSH a few times & its always gotten away from me untill i put a net over them to tie them down to & even then they went crazy .

i'll show ya a couple pics of a failed experiment with SSH . i put 16 freshly rooted cuts of SSH into a 3 x 3 tray under a 600 & well ..... you'll see !!!

here they are right before the flip .... pretty close to what you have now .

& here they are 30 days later !!!

Like I said .... experiment FAILED !!!! BIG TIME !!! lol
