400w CMH scrog grow. Come on in!

Hi everyone & welcome to my thread!

Let me take a moment to apologize in advance if I ramble at any point. It's tough when you don't have anyone to really discuss growing with other than your s/o lol.

I've always come to icmag when searching for answers to my questions, but this is my first time posting.....I think?

Anyways, I've been growing for about 4 years now. I started off only using cfl's and a ghetto box, but have stepped it up to a 2x2x5 tent & a 400w cmh in the last couple years. Its been treating me pretty well, to say the least! I'd go bigger or add a veg space, but room I have not. Lame.

Some strains I've ran:
Candy Chem (my favorite!)
C99
Stardawg
Snocap
Abusive OG
Sour OG
Pre-98 Bubba
White Bubba
Jillybean
Rock Candy
Z7 (remedy)
Irukandji
Pineapple Express
Blue Widow

I normally like to run 4 diff strains to get a nice variety, but this round I've decided to stick to one strain - Lucky Charms from Bodhi.

I've always wanted to do a scrog, but never got around to it...lol. This time I'm doing it though! I may need some pointers along the way, so any help will be much appreciated!

I've also changed up my nutes a little as well but still keeping it pretty simple. Here's what ill be using:

FF Grow Big
Botanicare PBP Bloom
Botanicare CalMag+
Botanicare Liquid Karma
FF solubles (open sesame, beastie bloom & cha ching)
Molasses

Waiting on the beans to arrive, and then ill get this party started!

its good that you want to scrog, youll want to do it everytime.
all i really have to say is... make sure its tight and start spreading the plant out as it grows.
im running my first scrog too but i wasnt able to keep it tight since mine is plastic.
dont get plastic!

That's what I hear about scrog is that you'll never want to NOT do it again! Lol

Thanks for the advice, too. I was gonna make my scrog setup out of pvc & nylon string, which I've seen be pretty successful for some. Do you think I should make it out if cedar or something other than pvc? Just figui that would be the cheapest route

On a side note, my beans arrived yesterday! got a free pack of Silver Lotus too. Yeahhhhh buddy

Now my question is this....I've never had to go "sex hunting" as I'm used to clones/femmed seeds. I have enough room for 4 plants but I'd be happy with just 1 or 2 since I'm scrogging. If I pop 6 of these should I have a pretty good chance of finding a couple fine ass females? I'm sure the m/f ratio varies from pack to pack

Also wondering if I should do a half & half grow instead of just Lucky Charms. Guess that's more of A personal preference lol but I wanted to get some input

the pvc frame sounds good, ill have to do that next time. i kinda just tied my scrog to the ends of my tent. the nylon is cheaper though, it can work better for you since you got the frame but for sure keep it tight lol

your right about only having two plants on the scrog. i threw three plants in mine and im kinda regretting it b/c the plants just take over!!!!!!!!!

as for your seeds, id do like four of each just so you dont end up with too many females if you cant properly house them or what not.
i actually have a bit of a prob... i have too many plants and theyre outgrowing the space really bad

Haha I totally can relate on overcrowding! I usually do 4 plants in the 2x2 space and it gets a little crazy sometimes.

& regarding what to start with, I did just that - germing 4 of each and hoping for at lease one keeper out of them both! Shouldn't be a problem (hopefully lol)

Since I don't have much to really report on yet, here a couple images from a previous run. Shows how much room 4 will take up if I don't train well enough lol. Also a couple shots of my personal favorite Candy Chem in flowering and the finished product. Mmmmmm....

sweet! lets hope for some good fems! seeds are my fav. they grow stronger with a lot more even growth.

6/8 seeds have popped woooo hoping the other 2 will be good tonight. Either way I'm puttin those 6 in the dirt tonight and we can get this party started!

i am running 1020 watts. 600 watt blackstar led, 400 watt hps with 4x 5 watt led supplemental lights.

second pic: you can see theyre on 5 gal buckets and one in the back in a three gal. the three gal is the lavender, very short wanted to get that outta the way so i flowered.
everything you see here is in cocogro by botanicare with perlite.
i do the first bottom 5th to a quarter of perlite then the rest coco.

third pic: this is the veg tent it has 14 plants, the plants are out growing the space so i have desided to flower it... fuck it!!
and theirs gsc, white rhino, purple urkle, white widow x skunk #1, bc god bud, permafrost, Tahoe og, akorn aka snow bud, san fernando valley og,

the led's are working fine so far, ive seen better results in my plants with the led's than other ppl on you tube and what not. but ive only been vegging so now that im flowering well be able to see the led difference.

flowers are forming now, ill post prog report this upcoming friday

just wanted to add that the hps light was added for flowering, these leds are perfict for vegging. ive also been defoliating a lot since the beginning. these plants would be crazy bushy otherwise!!!!
super cropping and topping before your scrog is the idea.

Thank you! Its only the beginning but I have high hopes for this round Jillybean was the first sativa I grew & I really underestimated how big & lanky it would grow! Great smoke though. PE is one of my favs too, great taste & effect and basically grows itself.

Wow great setup man I've always been curious how the leds do for reg & supplemental lighting. Ill be anxious to see how they do in flower! Sounds like you have a great lineup of strains too!

So 3/4 of the Silver Lotus have sprouted, the fourth is almost out but looks like it might need to go. I'll give it a few days though. All 4 of the Lucky Charms are popping out of the soil but haven't dropped the shell yet...hoping nature will take its course and these will be good by tomorrow! If not...I might have to germ some more. Fingers crossed!

im glad most of your seeds have popped open, i also germinate all my seeds. sometimes youll get a wierd looking plant with funny leaves, if you get one like that just give some time to really grow then you can decide weather you to keep or not.

Awww yeah that's the most exciting part! Or one of them, at least. Lol. Gettin to watch them get all fat & smelly


I figured I wouldn't update THAT often at first since it's always kind of a slow start. Today is about day 10 since they sprouted from the soil. All four Silver Lotus' are doing fantastic so far & I had to get rid of one of the Lucky Charms that never got past shedding the seed. That's okay though, I'm sure I'll find a keeper still! Gonna transplant them into bigger pots this weekend.

Thanks buddy yeah the SL's are looking b-e-a-utiful! And so is your tent! Looks like you're taking full advantage of the space haha pretty soon those things will be even more massive.

Not sure what day of veg it is, but it appears I've found my first male. It's one of the Silver Lotus'. Posting a picture for further confirmation, as this is my first time sexing plants myself, but I'm about 90% sure it's a male.

First pic is the suspected pollen sack, second pic is the group & the third is a little peek of the progression of the topping I did a few days ago

wow dude does look nice!
yeah that looks like a pollen sac to me.
i found two males in my other tent as well.
you can keep em outside and collect a lil bit of pollen and you can pollinate some bottom nugs to cross the plant, i do this using a paint brush!

i have a question... How long do you veg for before you flower?
