sorry, I didn't realize D9 went horizontal... i've been away and still run 'old school' PPK environment.

Called a couple different suppliers and the representative stated that the Centrifugal humidifier would be too much, and then recommended me towards a Venta humidifier, but when I contacted them they state that the unit will only achieve around 50% humidity...

I still would rather purchase one of these centrifugal foggers as opposed to the discs because of ease of use and easy gravity feed options.

Will these units be overkill? Is it better that they are overkill? Being I will not have to run them as often with a controller?

I am more than willing to purchase the entire kit (Fogger, Controller and gravity feed parts) now, but I need to know for certain that this will work well for my specific application.

Thanks.

Hmm, given my current parameters I gain a greater benefit running Horizontal as opposed to vertical...

If you could direct me towards a PPK thread which is located within another section where one can use the PPK even if their bulbs are horizontally oriented, I will gladly leave...

But this seems to be the only thread which houses all of the PPK information, along with a great community of generous individuals...

Tom,
I run a horizontal lighting as well with great result. I only have 4 plants as my room is so small (5x10). I don't use standard lights though, i am running DE Sockets on Large Adjust-a-Wings which has given me a better light spread dimmed down to 600w than i have had with vertical 600w bulbs, these things really penetrate and i haven't even tested them at 1k yet.

I would be very careful about the type of humidifier I get, in your shoes. Many of those misters blast everything into the air, contaminants, dirt, dissolved minerals in the water- AND spores and bacteria.

I suggest using 'swamp coolers', which cool and humidify by evaporating water from batting while blowing air across it. The evaporation process leaves the contaminants behind, and the unit is self limiting to an extent; the more humid it gets, the slower the machine will work to add more, naturally.

Thanks, ttystikk. I will be using R/O water solely for humidifying purposes; just as important as the water in the plant reservoir it seems.

I'm looking for a unit that is 12"X 12"X 12" maximum to fit perfectly between my ppk modules.

It's looking as though I will be purchasing an Ultrasonic 5 Disc Fogger, although it is recommended one does not connect that to a controller, or even run continuously exceeding eight hours... So this is concerning... As I will likely have to purchase two of them and cycle the on and off times (wow, did not recognize how small they were, I will certainly purchase two of them and keep them within the same reservoir which will be gravity fed from an external res as well)

The Hydrofogger is supposedly too large of microns, too large capacity for my minimal requirements, and will coat everything in water...

Thanks everyone

D9 doesn't do horizontal growing if that's what you mean. He vegged and flowered vertical.

I'm using LEDs to veg because I found some for cheap (442 USD for each of those BSLEDs) and they seem to keep the internode distances down very well. Also, I don't have to worry about heat in a 3 x 2 x 5 grow tent ... temp stays around 80 as long as I keep the vent flaps open on the bottom and the duct hole open up top. Actually I'd love to try just straight LEDs and hang them vertically but I can't afford that now, so I'm sticking with vertically hung bare bulb HPS or flower.

TerpeneTom -- I have two 8' wide x 4.5' deep x 6.5' tall grow tents rolling right now, and for both I use a single five disk fogger in a 5 gallon bucket. Can't upload pics but let me see if I can show you how it works. Here's a fogger:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-head-Ultr...rasonic-fogger-make-fog-cyclone-/221241964575

I drop one of those in a 5 gallon bucket which has small float valve attached to fill up the bucket and maintain a constant water level (I have an external 27 gallon tote raised a good foot and a half off the ground which I fill with tap water to refill the bucket). I then attached a bucket lid which has a 6" hole drilled in the center, and a bunch of 1" holes drilled in a circle around that hole. I then take your typical Honeywell turboforce fan that everyone around here seems to use and lay that on top of the hole, pointing upward. The smaller holes around the main hole allow for air intake while the fan sucks the air out of the main hole. It works tremendously well, as no fog is left in the bucket floating around and all is shot straight into the air. For my environment, this easily keeps the humidity at around 50-55%, and I wouldn't want to go higher because I'm just flowering in each tent. Keep in mind that I am extracting heat at about 500 cfm and (very rarely, when necessary) pumping cold air in at 400 cfm to maintain 80 F lights on. I'm also running 50 watts per square foot currently (1800 watts) of bare bulb vertical HPS. I'd imagine if you're running a similar setup in each tent, you'd be just fine.

FYI just so you know what kind of system I'm using this in, I'm using an Autopilot Digital Environment Controller on each tent to run the cold air (active) intake (this rarely turns on ... maybe a total of 5 minutes each hour), to toggle on the humidity using the foggers, and to run the cycle timer for the PPK pulse feed. Here's the unit:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/200837311617?lpid=82

D9 advocated running the cycle timer during both lights on and lights off, and unfortunately this unit's cycle timer (which is intended for CO2) only runs during lights on, so I'll see how this works. Just about to start flowering a plant w/ the PPKs (my other tent has been running blumats + coco).

FYI, if you need it, here are some other options for controlling temperature, humidity, and pulse feeds:

Lux Temp Controller: http://www.amazon.com/Lux-Heating-C...87&sr=1-1&keywords=lux+temperature+controller

Dayton Humidity Controller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261402665508?lpid=82

Recycle Timer: http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_info.php?products_id=12922

Hope this helps you getting set up. I'll start a thread here soon with my operation once the blumat + coco grow is done (probably will be in about a month).

Very informative, flat9.

Much appreciated; there should be a donate button so I can pay you for the time you put into these responses.

I'm serious about the donation button, much like twitch, the streaming website for video games and such; those individuals receive very generous donations.

I would love to donate to these individuals who put so much time into helping the community.

:)

Does d9 use a HPS for the entire grow? Or does he use MH for vegetative? I was looking into the Hortilix blue, but the lumens were so low relative to the HPS (I know the lumen measurement is inherently flawed, so could you please enlighten me?).

It seems that a full spectrum bulb ran the entire grow best allows the plant to adapt and not be exposed to increased stress when switching bulbs constantly.

Also, I have spoken to three different representatives from specific retailers and none of them can specifically direct me towards a Ultrasonic Fogger that will fulfill my unique requirements. Does anyone else here (I've pm'd a few) use these foggers? How many discs for your application (mine being a 4X4X7 Tent, and I recirculate the air via a carbon scrubber attached to a centrifugal fan). They are not recommended to run longer than 8 hours continuous, so I cannot use a controller, but instead will purchase two and cycle them via timers.

Thanks (sorry this isn't directly related to the ppk unit, but I asked this question within another section and don't receive near the educated, informative responses)

check out ghettogrow and his threads he has used some and I believe still has too, I been checking out those new hortilux super blues also I think next season I will be employing some of those and the hortilux dual arcs. I really like using both spectrums in flower.

It would appear that D9 has been on recently :

I would wish him well and thank him for his many positive contributions.
I would have to say that I thought his various threads were some of the most informative and interesting of any that I have run across. Sadly I would also have to say that they seem pretty hollow and empty without the images, though not with out value still.
Maybe with an older camera with none of the newer type data he might do another really neat thread. I wonder what the chance might be ?

I wonder who else thinks D9's threads have made a difference ?

If the PPK has made a difference for you.

it says I do not have permission to visit this page.. but he has made a difference to me. who is payaso?

and I thought that IC automatically stripped that photo data out of any pics uploaded.

and i'll buy an older camera for him if necessary.
