just how long does a carbon filter last...

Ima workin on year 2 this summer with my can filter, I noticed some leakage scents when it got too hot lat summer though, all good since. Starting to think I should just replace it next run anyway to be safe. Worst nightmare to come home and the filter failed!

I think your poll question is flawed because it depends on the make and quality of your filter how long it will last , a decent one should last at least 2 years but a cheap budget filter will be more like 6 months

I'm about 15 months into my Phresh filter.
I make a habit of replacing every 18 months. I could probably wait another 6 months, but they're cheap enough that I don't mind swapping it out every year and half.

i wanted to vote for 18 months ! so i went with 2 years instead rounding up and all.ww
been using the same set of phresh filters for 2 years no issues... prefilters must be washed in between grows to maintain your filter

Seeing as their £50 Gbp for the Rhino Filter(5") which ain't to bad I think I change after about 4 blooms 
If my understanding is correct, it will last almost forever as long as it is treated correctly, it can be washed and reused repeatedly.
That being said, I don't think that trying to cheap out on filtration is a good idea at all, and that most off the shelf stuff calls for frequent replacement .

Had "The" cut of ECSD and that bitch is so stinky that your normal scrubber setup would not be sufficient.
I wasn't running a scrubber on a 400w grow that had 2 small ECSD plants in it. Walking out of a building 150 yards away, across an open field, you would get smacked in the face with the odor and start looking for plants growing in the field... a LOT of them.
Unless you've run into that kind of stink... you wouldn't think it's possible.
Lifespan depends on filter quality and the amount of odor being scrubbed. Most filters would be really difficult to 'wash' effectively without removing the carbon to wash it.

What about if you are blowing through the filter rather than sucking through it? WIll that effect the life expectancy? I have a CanFilter66 for my 5x5 tent and it is under a year old. NEaring the end of my second crop with about a month break in between and I am starting to get the odd whiff. I have it outside my tent and and blowing through it.
Yeah, maintenance (washing) makes a difference. I buy by the roll and change out every 6 mos. Probably over kill....but no aromas.

When i was running a cab i had to blow into my filter also.my 2 cents is this isn't the best way as you have no filter on the inside to help keep those fine dusty particles from entering the filter.I disconnected my filter every few months and hooked my fan up to it so it would pull through the filter and i'd let it run for a while...kick it...slap it...tryin to get out any nastys i could.
I have been running the same Phresh filter for close to 3 yrs.
Ive been surprised how long my cheapy amazon ones have lasted. I do change there position every round or so try to get the air to blow threw carbon that may have been in bottom or whatever, but my problem is what to do with an old one?
I change mine every couple years or so but i rotate em to diff cabs depending on need of smell masking is less if they are old.
Can i just trash it in the normal trash I wonder or do i gotta go stealth dump it somewhere? I really want to make something out of it though, empty it out and put a lamp socket and bulb in it. Would look cool i think, no?

I had 1 canfilter last 3 years.. of continuous use.
and another lasted 2 years continuous use..
but I also run bigger filters then I need.. and run at lower cfm then the max.
