Hello,

I fill with envy when viewing these boards and analyze the strains certain individuals possess; to personally know an authority within the cannabis industry would be GOLD!!!

I am aware of the legal stipulations and warranted paranoia when discussing such specific "illicit" transactions, but would love some feedback from those that have connections, and would appreciate your anecdotes about these interactions.

I also hear about these supposed forum cuts and how individuals are gifting their eltite strains (which would be INCREDIBLY advantageous for the professional grower, as one would know the creators climate, techniques, recommendations, etc....)

Please shed some light on this subject for me.

Thank you, as this seed hunt has consumed all of my time, which I should be spending elsewhere. So.Many.Opinions. For now I seem to trust Chimera, Tom Hill, Dr.Greenthumb(maybe?), Reservoir Seeds, OG Raskal.... Leaning towards feminized given grow room contraints.

The Title should include other topics, but now i'm stuck with it, as i had just rambled once my fingers hit the keyboard...

Again, thanks to those that contribute some informative post, and can further elaborate upon certain aspects that are not quite related to Michigan Clones, as the title suggests

Trading cuts or any thing here is a violation of TOU.
In Michigan real life ;) there are very few places that are open any more. Dispensaries in the metro areas. South of 8 mile, ann arbor, Flint off center.

Several of the up coming expos will have live genetics I would imagine.

Good luck

Thanks, Paladin(WoW?).

I don't quite trust the dispensaries (Grow room cleanliness, techniques, known genetic heritage and source, nutrients and schedule, preferred pruning, flower time, UVB, etc are not disclosed within the dispensary it seems) and as I mentioned, it's difficult to trade or acquire genetics from those that you are not personally aligned with.

I wish a expert grower would adopt me, haha. Padawan, excellent I would be. *bow*

As I enter the job market, and my interest within horticulture (Science of cannabis) abounds, I would love an opportunity within this industry to produce something excellent in an efficient manner.

Most cuts come with few instructions.

you are in the right place..read read read.. Padawan ;)

It's hard to acquire legit genetics if you don't join a club, or just don't know the right people. I say just keep reading and talking with people and your bound to get what your after. Don't be afraid to pop some beans and look for what you want either.

That's how they're found, planting a new generation, GreenReality.

Although many hobbyist growers don't possess the necessary assets, which are required to properly (pragmatically) select superior genetics. Even then, there are those that appeal specifically to an individual, given qualitative methods and personal preference. Without lab data and standardized tests it seems to be somewhat difficult to truly discern which strains/crosses are desirable (even so, this depends upon the consumer).

People often state that one should just "grow what you please", but this sounds like rubbish to me, as there are specific genetics that will perform at a superior level (given climate, techniques, grow room constraints), and ultimately produce exceptional end product which will best satisfy you.

Understanding specific individuals motives differ, and that differences in demand among consumers must be considered, there still is reason that these supposed elite strains are so prominent within the cannabis market. Or is it really all hype? Should one sow new seeds that will ultimately create the latest and greatest? Is this sensationalized shit?

Coherent? Please someone respond. Thanks!

Semi coherent

I've grown growers my whole adult life. First myself then anyone who showed interest. Every single one of them would answer your questions differently. Personal preference!!

It's all the above, not any one answer. It's like this, say uve got the Gorilla Glue #4? All u personally are gonna want is what ever Josey Wales gets out the next 5-6 beans and when his male gets on with some magic. Or any other outcross for that matter ;)

So many of the un-knowing figure that a great crop is just an (insert savior) away. Big-name clones, 12part nutes, or just the right flush is going to put them over the top.
It's really just very basic, you're either a good grower or you're not. If you aren't - nothing works, if you are, everything works. The difference might be 20yrs experience or just a lucky thumb, but if you don't have or won't work for that edge, mewling isn't the cure...

They are elite for a reason, because they are above the average smokers expectations. Just because you have an elite cut, does not meen you will be able t o produce top shelf results. I think personally you are looking at this as a puzzle when it should be looked as a experience that has to be earned and learned. It's something that comes in time.

It's much more complex than you depict it to be, so I see it...

I understand what you're attempting to communicate, and generally agree, although understanding the breeder and their methods, experience, genetics, source, grow techniques is certainly beneficial for those interested in their product.

Also, certain names do appeal to certain individuals, given their guaranteed medicinal effects. Marketability...

Specifically their understanding of breeding practice and horticulture. Certainly, some individuals stumble upon excellent genetics; Soma for example, he sits on camera and elaborates upon his methods (lack of) and how he acquired his unique profile of crosses, while providing no valuable information regarding the grow, but just marketing, hippy talk. No true scientific, pragmatic approach, just threw some seeds and got lucky...

Appreciate the relevant analogy, GreenReality.

Seems people invest decades of practical knowledge and time to advance their specific genetics for the betterment of the community. There must be a reason these individuals market their product and provide descriptions which will help those interested make an educated decision based upon their preferences and constraints.

Rather than start over, wouldn't it be beneficial for a beginner to adopt a proven strain... There must also be reason strains are recommended for beginners.

Personal preference. You can't make everyone happy. But you can try to make yourself happy. If you think a strain you have is awesome then thats what matters. I've personally never viewed any of this in the form of the questions you have asked or are asking. I just originally grabbed a strain "I" liked and my Passion grew from there. There is no wrong or right method to starting off in this field. Like someone said. You either got it or your dont. You will never get knocked for learning

To elaborate...

I have invested a significant proportion of my time determining which genetics will remain relevant and superior because I must develop a core competency, and mine being the pursuit for perfection of a specific strain; although this is difficult to forecast/achieve, there are strains which still remain elites and specifically sought after because of their uniqueness, potency...

Much like any competitive industry operating today, they possess an advantage, which differentiates themselves from the others. For example, I personally visit the same restaurant every week because they have an exceptional burger, and that's what I purchase every time. This is not to say I do not seek variety, but I KNOW that this specific business will deliver consistently when I desire such product.

The cannabis industry will inevitably be absolutely saturated with crosses, professionally produced or not, and although they will be capable of competing and acquiring market share, individuals will still demand a strain they are familiar with, and from a grower they trust (branding).

Jiro Dreams of Sushi, an exceptional work of cinematography, masterfully crafted, and professionally delivered. The most profound lesson that resonated within me being that humans inherently possess a limited capacity - knowledge, physical, psychological - and it's our duty to focus upon a specific skill, in the pursuit of perfection, as that is the best we can contribute given these constraints.

Please respond. Thanks!

It still all comes around to the same conclusion...

And what conclusion is that?

I think you have been given the answer to your questions, honestly.

How do you know what to grow - without growing it? Sure, you can take someone's opinions on what they personally like, but that is all it really comes down to is their opinion...

Many so called elites are not exactly superior than everything else out there - they are just an accepted pheno within a group of people that is enjoyed by that group of people...

If everyone is growing the same general group of plants - what makes you think you as an individual will be able to carve out your portion of the market by offering the same thing as everyone else????

Get a general idea of what kind of strains will work for YOU - in your particular scenario - and grow them...

Sure...from seed.

I can't count the times I've sprouted seeds that have been on par and often times better than the so called "elites"...

Best thing to do is just start growing SOMETHING...go get your feet wet. Never learn to swim if you don't jump in...

Conclusion: Differences in Demand; for better or worse

I just get stuck on this opinion debate.

Facts: Breeder practice, Strain popularity, Plant structure, and more i'm certain. There are good and bad, no doubt. People recommend you don't purchase from X, because of rushed product. People recommend Chimera and Tom Hill seeds, because of their extensive knowledge, which has allowed them to develop such revered plants.

There must be a reason only one plant takes first place at cannabis cups (I do understand the extremely questionable and debatable methods of judging here, but nonetheless, these individuals come to a conclusion on one specific strain, given a set of parameters, being aroma, potency, effect, appeal...). There must also be reason one specific strain sells faster than another when released to the market, and this is what i'm attempting to explore.

I'd like to visit dispensary's and conduct extensive market research to explore their experiences and observations, as this would expand my knowledge of the location and their demographic.

Thank you, Dank, appreciate you stopping by.

Also, if i'm growing with LED's, shouldn't I source seeds from a breeder who employs such techniques within their grow room? After reading certain breeding threads, this seems to be agreed upon, that it takes a strain a few generations to adapt to their micro climate.

I don't have the luxury of germinating 10+ regular beans to find the "one". So it seems conducting some research would be beneficial in my quest.

TT, you are really making this harder than it needs to be. Do you know what you like to smoke (or what you clients want)? Find it and grow it... IMO it doesn't matter what the people (breeders) methods are but what the plants preferences are. Make the plant happy and it'll TRY to make you happy.

Your setup WILL be different than everybody elses, so you need to listen to the plants. Marketing will exist as long as people; it's not going anywhere. Learn to tune it out, live with it, or go crazy. I'd hate to see you choose the last option.
