It's surely been a miserable couple of days but it sounds like tomorrow should be a little warmer. Thursday will be bringing back the same cold weather though.

I'm gettin' killed here Herb, damn septic froze up this morning (hadda poop in a baggie), 1st time in 18 years I've owned this place; had no issues back in '96 w/that -60F although that was a short cold spell, as opposed to what we've endured in this month long crap.

I passed on putting in my new septic system this year because I keep adjusting some construction plans I have and need the planned water use to match the system. I'm using the original system installed in '64 but it's been declining in its performance, 50 fucking years old! the sandy soil out here is awesome for septic.

my guy's coming by this afternoon to steam out the tank & line.

EDIT:
whereas we usually get a bunch of cold spells lasting 3-7 days @ -15 to -35F every so often in our deep winter it's been quite the opposite this year, since early December we've sustained those -15F & below regularly and have had only 2 breaks in the weather resulting in temps of 0F & above and those temps only lasting a day or two.

I'm almost sure Minnesota has broken records this year for below average winter temps, way below.

I heard from someone the other day that these are the coldest average temps since 1938 but I didn't look it up to verify. All I know is it's damn cold.

Sorry to hear about the septic problems. I know how it goes because where I grew up also had an old septic and a shallow well. It was fairly common to have a frozen septic and a frozen main water line during the deep freezes. Truthfully as a kid it wasn't much of a big deal but today would be a different story!

We also you used to have a problem with the well running dry in the summer during the heat waves. Sometimes that country living can be a real pain.

Here in lake co, ca were suppose to have a low of 41F, with a chance of some rain tomorrow.

it's all about what you're acclimated to living where you do.

in '89 or '90 three of us went from MN to NY for work in February, we would stay in moms house which had 2 empty bedrooms, the only condition was that we do some maintenance around her house.

when we left MN it was about -30F, when we got to NY it was 40F, an overnight rise in temps of 70 degrees; we were trimming hedges, raking between shrubs & flower beds in our t-shirts, commuters headed to NYC walked passed us eyes wide, wondering how we were braving the cold. So used to the MN cold we never once got uncomfortable during the time we spent in NY.

It's already hit -50F twice this year and looks like it's about to do it again soon.

Winds are up and temps are down...

Nice weather is for wimps. :) (Popular bumper sticker up here at 10,000 feet)

Keep it Clean! :D

here's a big part of the reason I prefer minnesota weather over most other, in the summer we'll never have much more than a handful of days over 90F, rarely do we ever see 100 degrees. The cool nights are ideal for gathering around a campfire or lighting a fire in your fireplace.

yeah, summer's a short season but the weather can't be beat.......

yeah it was 26 today after 8 this morning, better than it has been but not too bad, -6 is the worst this winter so far and that is nothing compared to the 22 below in 2004 and the usual 12 or 13 below at least once a year before the last 8 or so. Nothing compared to Minn winters but hey, not bad for around here,

This is my favorite tree in the yard S4L. Apparently this Norway was struck by lightning in the early 80's and almost didn't make it. As you can see it made a full recovery and even still has nice form.

nice 1 Herb, I like the Norway's better than the White pine for shape and eye appeal. I've got a couple right beside each other that look almost like Q-tips tall, lanky & all the foliage up top, real character.

We've had a pretty warm winter here, it was still raining around Xmas time and only got cold after new years.. After that it was some 3 weeks of -15 to -27 celcius, but now it's been under -10, which is nice cause i get to shoot my pucks and the ice is not too hard :) Wishing for more snow so i could go x-country skiing before the spring hits us.

Speaking of Norway, here's a picture of a fox frozen in a lake, don't click on it if you are sensitive and thing. Poor guy must have been crossing the lake or fell into it while the ice was forming, a sudden cold streak.. End of story.

I was just out for a short ride and must have run across at least a 100 sleds. The trails were a busy place. It was warm today and we got some fresh snow this morning.

It was warm today. I think it got up to around 18F. And then mother nature decided to drop another 6 inches of snow. She's a real bitch!

Oh man, it was beautiful outside today. Made it into the upper 20's down here. 6 inches of snow was no big deal! Sun shining a bit stronger, fresh snow!
