Coco education for experienced growers

I have a been a coco coir enthusiast for some time now. I originally started with GH fluro 3 part using dutch or bato buckets . The bottom of the bucket is filled with hydroton, the rest being either straight coco coir or a coco coir and perlite mix. In the past I have always ran a drain to waste system. I'm currently gathering info for a future project of mine any input is always welcome . Currently using canna aqua in 100% coco coir in solo cups for early veg. I am very interested in recirculating coco system but I hear there are many complications when coco isn't run dtw. I have been reading a lot about h&g aqua flakes in recirculating coco with good results. Any input on canna nutes, h&g nutes , and diff coco system setups would be helpful . Also, which additives are worth using and what not . Hoping for some great advice from some experienced growers. I have been doing this for 5+ years now and I am always learning and eager to bounce ideas off of other green thumbs out there. My old gh coco dtw setup was averaging about .7 g/w . I use 600 watt hps lights for flower . Prefer them over the 1000s due to heat and efficiency.:tiphat:

in my experience H and G are by far the easiest nutes to work with out there. they pretty much grow the plants for you. they have their nute ph buffered and the seem to keep at a steady 5.8ph for me. canna is similar and has less additive (including more goodies in the additives they do have) which is why there canna boost is over 100 dollars a liter. im currently running house and garden in a drain to waste coco setup but wouldn't count canna out by any means. ireally like their canna boost and rhizotonic as well as their enzymes. using Hand G the additives i use are the multi zen, drip clean, top booster, bud xl, magic green, and now there amino treatment. i sometimes supplement with floralicous plus and i either use kool bloom from gh, hydroplex from botaniare, or another affordable bloom booster (H.N's ginormis is another good one and at 0-18-16 its got some bang for your buck, although im not a huge fan of HN) instead of shooting powder, there is no need to spend that much, or us M.o.a.b bloom booster which is the same thing as shooting powder but way cheaper. i go light on this stuff and dont use anywhere near the suggested amounts, maybe 1/4 strength and have great results. i hope that helps. let me know if you have more specific questions.

Great info relic !! Thanks ! Canna boost is a big question for me because of the high price ?? What does boost do and is it worth the money ? I have heard only to use boost if u are using the whole canna line I don't know if that is true tho . I'm using canna aqua a&b for veg @5.8 ph with rhizotonic calmag+ and floracious+ at the moment . I also use great white for bennies. And add some silica blast in veg and beginning of flower . I switched from gh to canna aqua because I was getting way to much salt buildup last round. How do you apply your drip clean ? Do u mix it with ur nutes and how often are you feeding , once a day multiple times a day ? Run off ??

Have you ever used pk 13/14 ? I have always used either koolbloom powder or the big bud over drive combo. I would like to use what additives that are worth it without using too many. I am avg. .7 gpw now but would like to get more , but mainly want better quality and taste. Any suggestions ? I have heard of the Moab hammer head combo , I don't know much about shooting powder and h&g s line up. Thanks for the help !

off been running h&g for quite a while. I've done their whole line... every additive. the plants werer very happy. however, I did a run with base, protekt and drip clean and hit a little over a gpw. I'm using those plus moab on an 8x4 bed that will soon be harvested. I will decide after this run with moab whether or not it makes a difference. I do dtw, recirculation, and blumats all with botonicare bricked coco fed both h&g cocos and h&g aqua flakes and they both seem equal. I started using aqua flakes exclusively because it's marketed for recirculating systems and it works just as good on my dtw and blumats, but just as good as cocos not better. I used aqua flakes on the 1gpw run. all systems are fed 1.2ec veg through flower.

I think it might have help some, I've used it. I replaced shooting powder with it and had the same results. so, well see in a few weeks whether it's effective. I haven't done any side by sides so it's not going to be the most reliable comparison. so far, I'm really digging the less is more approach.

Ya I agree Otis. I like the less is more . That's part of the reason I'm really considering canna for flower because they have a lot less additives compared to h&g but everything I read about h&g is really impressing Me , just don't like how many additives they have . Either way I am for sure going to be running drip clean .. so many decisions to make haha

you should try a silica additive... you will never grow without it again. there is a noticeable difference in stem strength and over all plant health

I have been reading endless forums about canna and h&g in coco coir. Still haven't decided lol canna seems much more simple (less additives) but I keep hearing amazing things about h&g! I doubt there is a huge difference between the two but I want the best quality and yield possible . I love my resin production with my old gh setup but would like much more , and a slightly better taste . Yield will go up for sure once I dial I'm environment etc..

I have two tables. One recirculating drip, and one E&F.
100% coco. I pretty much run a fairly low EC (1.1 or so) of GH Maxibloom. pH adjustments are rarely needed. I run CalMag in the first Rez charge.
This is the most simple and satisfying method I have used.
I change the Rez once at about 4.5 weeks in. Then run straight water for last two weeks or so.

I run canna coco in F&D tables and it works just fine for me. Canna is really easy to use and grows good quality.

I have just 3 grows on my current setup.
Coco DTW, RO. I have used PBP with no so great results and found it a pita to mix. Moved to Canna which I found much cleaner and pH was always dead on 5.7 until I added the Cal Mag. Still had fleeting problems that I never quite locked down. Eliminated the Cal/Mag and things began to look better. Now Im using H&G and so far REALLY liking the results using nothing but Base, Protek and drip clean. Still have yet to flower but veg is the best looking yet. I have also ditched my Airpots (what a waste) and went Hempy buckets in the flower room.
In my Veg I am also now experimenting with tap water, Maxibloom and find no negative results after 2 weeks...very similar to the growth with H&G although the H&G seems cleaner and doesnt require that the Maxibloom powder does (to break down the crystals). I may be ditching the RO if my Tap water proves worthy although it is almost 200ppm. Results will speak for themselves.

I've been using canna aqua in coco and have been adding about 150-200 ppm of calmag+ before adding nutes so far so good . Everything I hear about h&g has been great tho just don't like how they have so many additives . I was wondering why canna doesn't have a late bloom booster tho , like over drive or Moab with other nute lines

hi am running 100% canna coco with ab an big bud for first 2/3wks then a few blast of pk13/14 and usually keep em on just the ab until the flush and that pretty much works fine......I have a few questions please after I finish with the pk13/14 at about 5/6 wks is there any good late booster anyone would like to mention and ive just got a bottle of hg drip clean ive read to use 1ml a gallon so what would that work out in 10litres and also some people say for coco you should be using 2ml a gallon????as the 1ml is for drip lines so you need to double up for coco??any info would be great..........
