What a wealth of knowledge I was recently inspired to switch to water about 70 days ago after reading one of heaths threads and I'm currently 40days into veg on my first rdwc system I will eventually start a thread. Let me get to the point how many vertical bulbs would you suggest for a two plant site I have 2 1000 watt hoods in my flower and am looking to buy some vertical bulbs it seems to be really important

Well Im still at it, I am in the middle of my best grow yet.. I dont want to jinx it but ill get some pics up this weekend..
The whole time I have been poisoning my plants with ethylene. Caused from running propane burners in a sealed room. After a while they use up all the o2 and dont burn clean, producing ethylene gas, which is poisionus to plants. Also growing at 9000+ feet I had the wrong jets in there too.. I have switched to bottled c02 and plants are biggest I have ever grown.
Earlier in this thread when I had trouble with one side, I thought it was adding shit to the humidifiers was the problem, It was actually when I switched from tankless water heater propane burners which had a flame level control on them. So they burned ok.. To the regular burners have a huge dirty flame on them that causes major problems.
Ethylene, a small colorless, odorless gas composed of two carbon and four hydrogen atoms (C2H4), is responsible for both beneficial and undesirable effects in greenhouse crops. It can prevent flowering, shorten internode length, increase branching, initiate fruit ripening, trigger leaf and flower senescence and abscission, cause leaf chlorosis (yellowing), and improve adventitious rooting. Some crops are relatively insensitive to ethylene while others are very sensitive. For example, Poinsettia shows little change after a 24 hour 1 ppm ethylene exposure, yet Cuphea hyssopifolia abscises all flowers after a 24 hour 0.01 ppm exposure. There are many potential sources of unwanted ethylene such as ripening fruit, decomposing organic matter, and exhaust from furnaces and vehicles. Because several factors can simultaneously impact a plant’s response to ethylene, it is easy to see why assessing a potential ethylene problem can be tricky. Some symptoms of exposure can be transient, while others show up long after the ethylene exposure has occurred, still other responses show up only after long-term exposure. To help you eliminate ethylene related crop delays and losses from your operation, this webpage details what short term and chronic low concentration ethylene exposure looks like, how to detect ethylene, track down the source, and fix the problem.

I got some interesting pics to throw up tonight..
A combustion CO2 generator burns propane or natural gas to output CO2. When there is enough oxygen available in the room a "clean combustion" not producing carbon monoxide (toxic to humans) nor ethylene gas (toxic to plants) is obtained. Thus, hourly ventilation between 1 to 3 minutes is required to replenish the oxygen level for a 24 000 Btu generator. For reference, a 24,000 Btu/hour gas generator outputs about 13 standard cubic feet of CO2 per hour.
The flames on tha co2 burners are definatly not burning clean, I should have noticed this because I weld and use a torch frequently.

That was a really baffling problem you were having... you had a lot of depth in trying to figure the problem out and guess the cause but who would have thought ethylene poisoning. I had always been paranoid of running a sealed room because of questions of oxygen levels, toxic offgassing buildup, etc but didn't know this sort of thing actually happened. Congrats on getting all that sorted... your setup is truely awesome, now you can put all you have and know to the full potential!
Been running sealed with burners for over 5 years, and never had an issue. Did have a problem with poor combustion due to incorrect burners (same high elevation issue), but I noticed it before plants arrived, and had no issue once a high elevation package was installed to the burner. Basically as long as the flame is totally blue, all is well.
Glad to hear you got it sorted though. Hopefully that means you'll get back to documenting your fucking awesome grows on here

Nice work; rationally assessing the gardens` inputs, deducing the possible causation of the defined issue, and affirmatively resolving the matter.
Good article, thanks for posting the link. Interesting diagnostics listed relevant to the potential effects of different ppm`s and exposure durations.
Of particular note was the effect of ethylene on the cultivar of tomatoes listed. As an aside, it might be interesting to browse through some of the tomatoes that reach the produce section of the local market. Depending on the farm, greenhouse facilities` practices, particular market (demand) itself, and/or shipping time to reach the specific market, some tomatoes might be labeled as having been `vine ripened`, while other tomatoes might, rather, be harvested `green` at the greenhouse facility, and `ripened` during transport to market via ethylene gas being released into the cargo vessel - ideally for the farm and produce distributor, arriving at the marketplace `red` (perhaps considered a general `market demand`).
It might further be an interesting (or, at the bare minimum, potentially edifying) exercise or examination of the subject matter to ask a produce section attendant at the local market place (`grocery store`, not so much `farmers market`) which, if any, of the produce on display at the market was exposed to ethylene gas during shipping. They (the grocery store, in general) may or may not know the accurate answer; yet there may be greater available detailed data about the item (depending on the region, market, and other factors) through an attached `UPC` label on the item, or regional agriculture datasets.

Plants so far are looking big, green, and healthy.
I tried dialing in the burners with different jetts and adjustable regulators, but I just didnt get the flame I wanted, plus the WH rooms are super sealed so the burners use up the 02 in the room anyways. The reason I couldn't put it together before is because my house has air cooled tubes which isnt exactly air tight, so there was a good enough supply of fresh o2 to keep the burners going,
The high altitude jets are rated from 6 to 10k feet. I am quite confident that the jetting for 6000 is different from 10000 feet.
I shit canned all the burners and got a pallet load of co2 tanks..

Active systems usually are better than passive ones. 1st learned that from designing solar hot air panels.
