Some old geezer grew these 2 buckets a short while back. He got just under 17zips after being hung/cure for about 5 weeks (some people give their weights just 5 days after chop which is way too wet, but not this geezer)

I love coco hempy. I use red lava rock for the rez, and dyna gro for nutes. I feed from 500 - 600 ppm.

Nice and Green! Which Dyna grow and are you using Calmag with it?

I used foliage pro for veg and grow for flowering. I was adding GH calmagic @ 1ml per gal. I did try to stop using it 3 weeks or so into veg but started showing small signs of calcium deficiency. I stopped using it again 3 weeks into bloom and everything seems good.

Very true mate. The geezer's a wizard with a 400w bulb.
Yeah he says its a kali cross (kali mist pollen crossed with some unknown fem).
He vegged under 200w flouros for about 5 weeks, then flowered under 400w hps for 10 weeks. Hand watered once every couple of days or so is what he said. Nice n fast considering its a satty hybrid.
They are the best hempy buckets I've ever seen and in real life. Made me wish I could grow like that when I had my 400w lol. Such a massive yield.

Retro got me curious about Hempy buckets so I have been doing a bit of research. I still don't quite understand what the advantage of the res at the bottom of the buckets is with the hole 2 inches up? Would this primarily be useful if someone was handwatering and didn't want to water/babysit the bucket so much? If things were automated with a top drip dtw does the hempy res become pointless because of a constant auto water refresh or is the res still accomplishing something by having a huge supply of water once the roots make it to the bottom of the bucket??? Thanks

Hi and good to here you like hempy style, just go for it. For best results in hempys one shall water every day to give fresh water to the roots in the res. Once the roots reach the res you will see explosive growth and for me that is enough...lol.
Off course you can use a dripper system but that take out the simplicity of this style because you have more things to worry about, electricty failure, dripper systems that can be clogged, if you get enough run off etc etc
With hempys you just water your buckets every day or twice a day even untill you get 10-20% run off and i can garantie you will get perfect result.

Hempys are a hydro system without a pump. Coco is a hydro medium, so they are a perfect match. They are simple, foolproof, and offer explosive growth in small pots watered daily to run off. The rez on the bottom is small, so it can be replaced daily with freshly oxygenated water very easily. They are perfect for hand watering, but could also be modified to have automated watering, but that would defeat the simplicity. Also, hand watering daily keeps you in touch with your plants, and they really like the drenching.

i hand water once daily, but i have a dripper system installed incase i go on holiday. The res is enough to keep the plants happy for 4 days, but ive been away for 12 days before with the dripper on below what it was drinking daily just to be sure i got no overspills and the plants were happy as larry when i got back.
so yes you can install drippers. Its handy to have the flexability.
Currentley got 3 c99 hybrids, and 1 AK on the go. in 15 l hempy buckets. I dont think you need them this big to be honest. newbie error. i think 10l would be perfect size.

i guess it all depends on your personal preference.
myself prefers to just set the pump and forget about everyday watering requirement. automatic feeding made rabbit's life much simpler in fact.
since hempy gives a lot of flexibility in terms of watering regime, even a 2 day lack of power would not hurt the plants. probably much less than 2 days of darkness, anyway.
automatic coco hempy lets you spend your day as you wish, leave for a weekend trip etc. besides you can cut on time required for mixing the nutes as you only need to top up the res every now and then. quite handy for a stoner mind, if you know what i mean
i personally top up my tanks once a week or not even that. i remember the PITA it was to hand water (even though i used soil as medium back then, which allowed for longer breaks between waterings than coco).
my 2 cents, anyway.
each needs to choose for self: to try and make your life easier or remain conservative?
