Have you ever run the results of a fan leaf extraction through the GC

Someone here tested Harlequin fan leaves from when the plant was in veg. The test showed 4% CBD and 2% THC. I believe the flowers from that clone tested at 8% CBD and 6% THC.

My experience has been that edibles made with fan leaves feel roughly similar to edibles made with sugar trim or bud. You just need more weight in leaves to get a similar high. That goes for fan leaves with zero visible trichomes too. THC is produced in the leaves themselves, not just in the trichomes.

I didn't know THC was produced in leaves. I have always thought THC is only present on trichome bulbs...

The reason I am asking about GC of leaf extract is because I am thinking maybe there is useful CBD inside for salves, since GW mentioned that it makes a killer salve. I also don't know whether THC is useful in a salve, or if CBD is considered the active ingredient.

Not recently enough to remember the numbers, but they tend to be more mature trichomes, with less THC, more CBD and higher CBN.

We also get good pain relief with high THC, low CBD strains in a topical, so it appears that THC is also playing a role.

do a cold water extraction ie ice ,blender. dry that out and mix it with quality bud and run bho. just a thought

we use our fans for vegetable oil or butter.. and then we donate it to any one that needs more cbd then thc. basicly my last batch of butter went to a friend whose son was diagnosed with epilepsy . and he made the butter into all sorts of foods and snacks.. and now after 2 months of use.. he has went from having over 5-10 seizures every day.. to maybe 2-5 a month.. which is amazing... so why waste it wen it can be used as medicine for some1 that's suffering.

there are lab tests floating around for Roots. Fan Leaves and stems.. all which contain some sort of levels of thc and cbd and cbn.. its obviously miniscule compared to flowers.. but shit we ran about 4-5 pounds of fans.. and had 2 pounds of butter took along time to make but was worth it to see this little kid smile!

When I clean a bud, I save all the small stems instead of toss. I just keep a coffee can close by and toss them in.
I use them to make a coconut infused oil.
Works great for my lower back pain.

I don't have citations, just 13 years of experience growing and getting high from my plants. Male fan leaves from veg (with zero trichomes) have gotten me high over and over again after simmering in whole milk. Stems with no trichomes have made some excellent batches of tincture over the years. I've even made strong edible oil from the roots a few times. No trichomes on the roots, obviously. THC is inside every part of the plant. The trichomes are just where it's at the strongest concentration.

That's my favorite thing to make with leaves. Simmer the dried leaves in whole milk, strain, and drink. It might take a few grams but it's worth it. I used to make stronger batches and then freeze the milk into ice cubes. Add a cannamilk ice cube to your coffee or tea for a fun start to the day. They go well with most drinks, even Guinness.

5 pounds is probably too much for cannamilk unless you're making it for lots of different people.

as far as documentation, i believe it was a book written by r.c. clark that shed light on the fact that thc is contained in all parts of the plant. there were charts and graphs in the back of the book that showed the thc levels of different parts of the plant, at different stages of maturity...

There are two types of glands active in cannabinoid secretion on female plants (Figs. 1, 2):
a. Capitate sessile - most common in that it occurs on stems, leaves and bracts.
b. Capitate stalked - develops only after flower formation, and occurs especially on the bracts subtending a flower and seed.

The gland consists of disc cells with their cytoplasm and a non-cellular intrawall secretory cavity. We examined the contents of this secretory cavity specifically to determine if cannabinoids occur in it.

Summary:
a) Capitate stalked glands contained more THC (and total cannabinoids) than capitate sessile glands.
b) THC, and total cannabinoid, quantity in both gland types can vary during the year, and can decrease to very low levels.
c) Cannabinoids decrease with aging of glands.
d) Cannabinoids occur in the secretory cavity of the gland.

It is pertinent to examine the organization of the disc cells because all contents in this cavity must be derived from the disc cells. Cannabinoids, or their precursors, are secretions from these cells. Another major group of secreted compounds are the terpenes (monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes). Monoterpenes are the more abundant of the two. Terpenes compose the "essential oils"; they contribute to the odors of the plant, and are sticky in character, as evident when one touches the plant. Different combinations of terpenes in different strains contribute to odor differences among the strains. Cannabinoids, and THC, are odorless to most humans.

Not sure which Clarke book, but check out page 130/135 of his Marijuana Botany book, where he says they come from the trichomes.

You have more experience with hash oil than I'll ever have. When you work with large batches, it's probably not worth the effort to get the THC and other cannabinoids out of the leaf material itself when there aren't any trichomes. Extracting cannabinoids from each part of the plant gives diminishing returns when you get to the parts that aren't covered in trichomes.

I just know that a low tolerance individual can get a potent high from leaves, stems, or roots without trichomes. A gram or two of male fan leaves taken at the beginning of flowering can be enough (or too much) for someone with a low tolerance. It's worth it to me to make tinctures with fan leaves and stems because I know people who appreciate it. I'm only working with small amounts as a hobbyist grower.

I've done a couple root extractions to prove a point to myself, but they aren't worth the effort. Cleaning the roots are a pain in the ass when you grow in soil. That's literally the only part of the plant that I throw away these days. Every bud, leaf, and stem gets used at some point.

We've extracted whole plants, including the roots, but for other relief, vis a vis getting high.

We make topical out of the fan leaves from flowering plants, and it has some head effect if ingested or vaporized, but more like a Charley horse between the ears than a high. A big knot at the base of my skull.

We also made a topical out of the roots, but the yield is very low and as you note, it is a bunch of work. I noticed that it didn't taste good vaporized, but didn't experience head effects.

I have tried running fan leaf, but not worth the effort IMHO--
When we defoliate right before harvest, we end up with 2-3 hundred pounds of leaf-- I have my guys dig a hole and dump it in--:tiphat:
