A few things that I've learned about growing in coco with a drip systm DTW

I've been using CAP products for years and years and years and years, as have lots of my friends, never had a problem with anything. It's all made in China, every single company. I would bet dollars to donuts that it's one factory making all this gear (be that timers, ballasts, bulbs, etc) that is then bought up by various companies who put their logos on it. Who knows?

Just like tires in this country. Hell, you can even do the research on it and not find anything at all pertaining to how many companies actually make tires in North America, and one of them is not American owned. I won't mention names, but there are only 3 companies that produce them. Yes, just three. merkaba? Point taken.

I bookmarked this topic today on the grounds of enjoyable reading. Thanx everyone for your astute attention to detail. Wonderful people in here.

I'm doing two 4x8's, 4 Radiant 8's, 39x10 Phat with a 8" Vortex, 2 50 gal. rez'each using an Active Aqua 550 pump. This is a sealed 11x11 room with a raked ceiling pitch of 11' down to 7'. There is no fresh-air intake, only exhaust through the floor. A 12500 btu window air conditioner, lots of fans running intermittently, and I also use an electric oil filled radiator heater when needed. . . like now.

I have a few mothers I take my clones from. I use a domed propagator with a heat mat for the cloning under a T-5. Takes me about a.5 weeks on average with about a 90% success rate. I then transplant into 1 gal. plastic bags using ReadyGro as the medium and veg for 3 weeks only. Finally, I transplant into 3 gal. Smart Pots, flush from the top with 5.8 ph'd filtered water until I get about a quart of run-off then it's under the lights for the 12-12 'switch'.

Nope.

There's no transitional lighting period. I've tried that method 3 different times and noticed nothing really different when comparing it to the times I haven't attempted it. Both ways, yet the weeds are still very slow growing and I believe this is due to root stretch. I mean, if anyone knows of a way to prevent this, do tell. Just understand that I have limited space. My veg room is a little smaller so when the 3 gal. transplant takes place the only room there is, is in the flower room on the tables. Well, the 1000 watt lights are in there. . . you see the dilemma, but hey, I'm try'in.

As of RIGHT NOW I'm only feeding once every other day when I make the switch. In the 7 grows I've done I've always noticed the slow growth. Takes about a week, week n a half then, BOOM! There they go.

My problem is fear. Fear of burning. I still don't know how far I can push them. There's quite a bit of $$ I have tied up in it, and burning em up could ruin me. This crop is sativa dominant. A Blue Dream cross. Third time around with it. Stretches like crazy, hence, the short veg..

Speaking of, during the veg I cut 8' pieces of bailing wire bending a very small hook at one end. I push this wire into the medium using the hook to hold down every shoot as it gets longer. A mini scrog if you will. Makes for numerous tops. I do this continuously until there's no more room left in the top of the pot. That's about 2 weeks after the switch.

I'm extremely anal about the ph, 5.8 or bust. The temp gets no higher than 80 during lights on, no lower that 60 when they're off.

I use H&G mostly. The base, Multi-Zen, Roots Accelerator, Drip Clean, and sometimes the Amino Treatment. . . when I can afford it. I also use Atami's Bloombastic as the P-K booster. I haven't used the H&G Bud XL or the Shooting Powder due to cost. As of now, I'd rather just pay the $145.00 for the 42.3 oz. bottle of Bloombastic compared to the $250.00 it would cost me for the Bud XL and Shooting Powder combined.

In closing, I grow dense but small buds. Cured, they are no bigger than say, a shot glass. (Maybe a tiny bit smaller.) Grind one up and it weighs in at about 2.6 grams on average. I'm wondering, what can I use during the first month of flower that would help with the production of larger cola's? Looking at the H&G feeding chart, it calls for nothing other than what I'm already giving them during this time. What am I missing here? Or is it that I'm not pushing my girls enough? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Respects, and Happy

I have a "Recommendation", and I don't sell Cannabis for profit, or otherwise. I am a Hep-C patient and Cannabis helps me eat, sleep, and tolerate this disease while I'm awaiting the treatment I so desperately need.

Used a PK booster for the first time out of three grows....Bloombastic, and was very happy with the results.

wrp, some plans just grow small dense, some huge airy buds.. it's usually strain dependent

Sort that out and you'll see a bigger difference than you will using any bud booster. At 15c your root zone will slow to the point where it's basically shut down.

Even when the lights come back on it takes time for the root zone to warm up to begin working properly. In that time they are processing very little. That's wasted light, wasted energy, wasted time. It's an underestimated part of environmental setup.

People worry about high day temps, but you can go degrees over the recommended and not see the yield loss you will if you're the same number of degrees under in the night.

Ph can drift between 5.6 and 6.2. You don't have to worry about getting every feed bang on 5.8.

But you do have to make sure you spend as few nights as possible at 15c. The more nights they spend at that temperature the more stunted their development will be.

Make sure you're not measuring root temps by air temp either, especially if you're on a cold floor.

If the air temp is 15c and your plants are sat directly on the floor, your root temps could be lower still.

Raise the plants off the floor with something if they are.

Setup the ovc drip manifold ala pico, its badass!
10 l pots w botanicare readygrow aeration mix, 1 inch layer hydroton on the bottom. Watering about 1 liter at lights on and .5 liter 6-7 hours later early in flower, and add a third watering about 3-4 weeks in.

What about the temp in the nute/water reservoir? Reason is my glacier water out of the tap is in the 50s. Should I have a heater in the res?

like in hydro between 18°C(65°F?) and max 22°C(72°F?) to keep the most o2 in it, so yes you should use a heater in the rez.

For those who use the big manifold dripper called topspin, did you notice that there is a differance between them, i have 3 manifold topspin in a line, and the one in the middle allways give me 0,5L/H more than the two others ones, so i did make a little work, i did add a few pressure regulator from netafim and put back the one inside the topspin, now it's rocks, 4L/H everywhere on the 36drippers...

Can anyone recommend a good water feeding device where I can schedule feeding cycles that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

It depend your irrigation cycle, how many drip ? how many min or sec each drip ?

if it's in sec you need a cyclic timer, if it's in minutes you can use the cheap chinese electronic timer(it's not the best but it's cheap).

here is what i use, it is an aquarium water pump, sold under Maxi Jet brand. it was recommended to me by a member greenmatter who is not an active user anymore, regrettably :[

you can get them in several volume-per-hour range. i use 2 pumps, 250m3/hour for coco hempy bucket(s) and 490m3/hour for soil. they are switched on/off by a timer.

these pumps are all relatively inexpensive (25 American $), no matter the capacity.
here is an example:

here are more:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=m570.l3201&_nkw=maxi+jet+pump&_sacat=0

what i do is simply run a 1/2 inch hose from the pump, then connect there a 1/4 inch hose (one or more) which then feeds the plants.

at times i add drippers at the end of the 1/4" hose as depicted below:

in the figure below you can also see the scheme of my other setup (soil) where the higher capacity Maxi Jet pump feeds the pots:

hope this helps :]

Here's a few root pics of my current grow. They were at 3-4 weeks at this stage and just getting transplanted.

^ wow, nice rootmass there, HGO! :good:

can you share what was above the 'ground' as well? :)
your last pic slightly uncovers that bush yet it would be nice to have a full screen view ;)

peace! :smoke:

if your running 5 gal coco its just way to much medium

Tried 2 and 3
And Airpots
And self watering
W and W/O Perlite
Autos - term

5 limits the # of plants in my 4x6 w 2-400 hps but the plants grow so nice and big and more than that the Kolas are huge. 100g (wet) is the biggest I ever got out of a 2 or 3 gal. 5s seem to be better. Get the 100s as a matter of course

... Yet I could be wrong ...
