I like the Arkansas River Valley. Although the rafters in the summer can be noisy....lol.........but, Electricity is expensive @ $.16 a kwh.

Denver works as well except I don't care for all the traffic.

Wasn't aware of water shortage in San Luis Valley, interesting.

The Conejos Valley is interesting but you Do have to have water rights to do anything there. Take a look at Google Maps, water issues are glaring in most of Colorado. Without irrigation,,, not good.

Is a 'household' well useable for Greenhouse growing?

If I were 20 years younger,,,, I'd probably have a place off the grid in Southpark over by 11mile reservoir.

Cheap dirt, few neighbors, but off the grid.

depends on the well. i've seen wells 300 feet apart where one pumps great drinkable water and the other pumps water that smells like a pond. i don't know that the funky water would hurt plants but people invest some serious cash in things like sand filters, carbon filters and UV to get the crap out of the water if they are going to drink it or even take a shower in it

you never know

I was speaking of legalities, Household wells are for indoor use ONLY. Have a friend who hauls water above Evergreen. They won't even let him water his yard with 'household' well water.

That's what I was curious about.

But yes I've seen the bad water scenario as well. Had a farm back home that had NO water until you broke through the limestone/bedrock.... then you got salt water. Not even fit for livestock to drink.

Some out by Hudson are that way as well.

i live about 27 miles from the colorado border and san luis valley...my well sits at 300' and runs 25gpm. cold as fuck and windy as a mofo haha. In new mexico you are allowed to capture rainwater, and i get 488,000g of water per year legally but i dont have a meter and i am off grid so i could use however much

Southpark? Too... freaking... Cold! Windy, too.

lol I will admit that my intentions have little to do with the coldest of the winter months. I'd be more likely to be there 3 seasons only.

As to the wind; The wind doesn't blow here,,,,, the states to the east and south just suck a bit too much.

But I do love the high country. The extra elevation of South Park, is why I keep my Part time digs in the Ark River Valley. 7500' or so, instead of 9k'. Although the cold does roll downhill off the Collegiate Mountains. The temps in the valley tend to be about 5*F colder than Denver.

So give me a bit more detail please. 488k? Is that in Colo., and how did they arrive at that number?

You in Conejos Cnty or another? Better Question,,, Do they not sell off the 'water rights' where you are? In the northern part of the Mtns., they sell off the water rights and leave it dry. Most years a pretty desolate looking landscape.... and then they sell off the land as ranchettes. Since the areas are often 'free range' they still run the same amount of cattle however. If you don't want the cattle on your grass, You have to fence them off.

Denver Water and Aurora Water are the prime buyers from what I've heard.

I actually live in taos county new mexico which is below conejos. I know its a different state, but alot of the water right stuff is the same. the 488k came form the state engineers office when they drilled my well and thats what they permitted it for. generally irrigation and water rights for surface water run with the land or are expensive as shit. here they use irrigation ditches called acequias to move water from the high country down to the arid plains and irrigate. My deed gives easements to the us governemtn to build canals and ditches if they want, but they wont its just on there cause it was a homesteading deed from the 1920s

South Park is the Arctic of Colorado. I know people there love it, but I was always miserable... and that was summertime!
I love it. :)

100+ mph winds, blowing dry snow picked up off the ground, shut down 285 at the Konosha pass yesterday morning. :)

Freaking beautiful up here... :tiphat:

Keep it Clean! :D

cotrip.org showed 285 as closed for blizzard conditions this morning as well. A friend was headed for the Ark Valley, elected to go south and take 50 up the canyon. From Grant to Fairplay.

285 open now.

JohnnyATL; Thx for the details. Sounds like all you need is Amendment 64 in NM, and you'd be all set.

haha yeah, but until then i will keep my acreage where i dont have any neighbors except the wild horses, and cruise up to alamosa or san luis if i really need to supplement anything that i cant make or aquire myself.

Meant to mention that all my land is also free range, fence out property. If you dont want cows in your shit, build a fence.

on the three seasons...you forgot the wind season...that makes 4

hey the list is 100% confidential and you have nothing to worry about

The confidentiality of medical marijuana patients in the State of Colorado is protected by law and by the procedures used by the registry. No lists of patients or doctors are given out to anyone. Law enforcement may only call to verify the information on a specific identification card. The Registry database resides on a stand-alone computer and is password protected. The office and all files are locked at night and when the Registry administrator is out of the office.
The department may release information concerning a specific patient to that patient with the written authorization of such patient.
Didn't a couple other states have the same type rules and they ended up handing the information over anyway?

My attitude is... if it can be looked up, it can be abused and shared the wrong way. There are very few benefits to getting a medical card in colorado these days and most patients have absolutely no need for it, other than as a shield against extortionistic pricing.

Even if you live under a rock, which I do, you should know by now that NOTHING YOU DO is private. Not only can EVERYTHING be looked up, but everything IS looked up, and this in itself is an abuse. I dropped off icmag after the june Snowden disclosure but lately, screw it, they know if you are a pothead. Guess what? If you are reading this then your metadata has you automatically added to a list of 'frequent drug users'. I forget where I heard that so I cant back it up but im pretty sure it was huffington post... ugh.
