A real PID controller will "come groovin' up slowly..." while an on/off thermostat will apply full power right up to Set Point. You will get major overshoot of Set Point with an on/off thermostat.

The dimmer will work well, get some temperature strips, and you're good to go, you just need to keep an eye on it.

RLC-60-90/120-10 In Stock $13.00 16 Temperature Levels Label, 90 to 120°F/32 to 49°C (2°F increments) in package of 10

They can be peeled off and reused.

shit I wish some1 would make cheaper vacuum chamber universal lids.;. I am not going to pay 90-120 for a lid. wen I can just build one.. but the thing is . i wish someone would put together a DIY kit.. just like a pressure cooker. and all pieces needed to make one yourself. and sell them made and not made.. lol

what i did was kept my lid super simple one hole for suction cup...kept eveything else in the lines...my last lid was just plexi....blew up in my face...poly carbonate now...my thoughts were adding holes or threading anything in would cause many uncontrollable stresses on lid causing it imo to weaken it..having done it this way... i would change how my lines are put together ...i would prob go 3/4 +on polycarbonate next time... due to bowing in 1/2 inch

i guess my point is ....focus on guages outside the lid and lid becomes simple squarr with hole rhat u put a suction cup to.

hey yall i just found these silicone pads from mcmaster-carr they seem more affordable than others and they do have units that come with temp controllers for 157.00 at bottom of page

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/119/527/=q6eag1

it is a thermostat controlled 50 -425 degrees f.....but not pid ....on another note.. they have the units for 79 bux 12x12 medium wattage without controller. for any interested

The "Heavy Duty Silicone-Rubber Heat Sheets" look to be Briskheats, and the "Flexible Silicone-Rubber Heat Sheets" look to be Omegas. You need to find out the details of the temperature controller, it could just be a very inexpensive on/off thermostat.

Here's another distributor,

SRFR-12/2 5 Weeks $77.00 Round silicone rubber heater, 12 in. diameter, 2.5 W/in2 watt density, without PSA (this is what I have under my aluminum five gallon stock pot vacuum chamber)

SRFG-1212/2-P In Stock $77.00 Silicone rubber heater 2W/in2, with PSA (this is 12" x 12")

they charge the same price 79 all the way thru for whatever watt/sq in.... 2 week wait and they do sell affordable units with built-in controller for 160. just NOT PID. so very similar units, actually when i spoke to mcmaster they said they are from briskheat and you could expect about a 5 degree overshoot with these controllers.
so for 2 more dollars you get
less wait
built-in temp option
wattage options
and adhesive backing option
but one way or another it still seems best route to go ebay for PID if you want perfect control

I use a candle jar warmer and it works great. I use a tuperware dish with the locking sides and a gasket on the bottom of the lid. A $30-$40 brake bleeder pump from the auto supply store and your all set. For about $60 you can have a diy purge set-up that works great. Here's some pics of the results of my set-up.

id love some more info on how you did the brake bleeder purging..... been wanting to try that

You're getting close with the second one, for this purpose it needs to be a PID controller, here's the cheapest Graywolf could find that will suffice,

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=6117344&postcount=40

Here's a package deal,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIGITAL-PID...034?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd5eada22

Couldn't be happier with the heating rate of the 2.5W/in2 Briskheat mats, although they are not as flexible side to side, so required some extra effort to mold to the 4" columns on both the Mk IV and V's.

Delivery was not good from them either.

I got the TA4-RNR Mypin temperature controller from Rakuten.com, which has only a relay, instead of a mA outputput. I use a wall wart 12VDC supply to supply the DC for the relays, and control the power to it with the automated controls.

The Mypins were only $16.96 each from NY, but after porking me $39.95 for shipping and handling five controllers, my actual cost each was about $25.

I used Type K thermocouples on all of them, with a Chinese finger cuff over braid, and exposed wire tips. I got them locally from Branom Instruments, but recommend getting them elsewhere, as they don't stand behind their own screw ups and are not the best price available.

I picked up 10 of the 40A Kodak solid state relays off E-Bay at $5 each, but can't readily put my finger on the source.

I don't use the huge heat sink provided with the one SH posted, but clamp it to the metal enclosure or an aluminum bar instead.

The Hoffman enclosure that I re-purposed is the most expensive part of the system, so will depend heavily on what you use. I chopped up a 12 gauge extension cord for the power and three 16 gauge extension cords for the outputs.

Since I didn't get a picture before shipping either one, I will ask the users to send me one. Suffice to say that they will bring an empty column up to 150F in three minutes and a packed wet one in about 14 minutes. It shaved 30 minutes off the Mk V recovery time.

The thermocouple controller combination overshoots the temperature less than three degrees of set point on the way up and closer after it settles in.

I'm happy enough to be designing using silicone mats in my larger systems.

Hey graywolf, you still happy with the mypin PID'S Im thinking of changing from my current rex c100. Any suggestions.

Think it was this thread that someone mentioned using a Hydrofarm Seedling mat and a thermostat. Works pretty damn good. If I set it to 108 (max temp) it fluctuates between 105-108 whichs for $55 shipped from amazon is fine by me.

i use a foot warmer mat/pad my sister got from kmart on sale a long time ago. I used to put a few clothes over it so it wouldnt get to hot, but now im using a cloning thermostat and got it directly under my aluminum chamber. I dont think its been getting hot enough so every once in a while i take the temp taker thing away and let it heat up a lil extra, then put it back underneath the chamber.
