Ideas For Side-By-Side Experiments

This is a long shot because it requires tissue culture, but we could answer a very important scientific question about cannabis fairly easily it seems to me

There is a lot of talk about influencing m/f ratio or phenotype expression by the environment the seedling vegged in. Notably by Dutch Passion
The basic question is Does the seed need to turn into the pheno it it ended up turning into? Or could it have been coaxed towards a different one at an early stage somehow?

The test would be extremely simple. Take tissue cultures of a seedling at the earliest possible stage. Grow at least one of the tissue cultures next to the original seedling. Then see if you get pheno variation or even different sexes

It seems to me that this could lead to a lot of advancements
If they do produce different phenos a lot of testing could then be done to determine what exactly influences what type of pheno. Also it could extend the lives of strains that are down to one or two seeds. You could make real m/f seeds from a single plant.

how about the effects of a hybrid through 2 different methods.
one being pollen bred from 2 strains
the other being a clone of one strain with the other strain grafted...

im pretty sure i read some info about grafting seperate strains and such..
maybe im wrong but oh well

I would also love to see fully seeded vs sensi. From my experience seeded marijuana has more vibrant buzz. I found seeded is often more medicinal(for nausea). I would take a guess that seeds promote a more even cannabinoid profile, as oppose to sensi having more elevated THC levels without many other valuable cannabinoids. Id love to see that side by side! I may even do it myself someday ...

if I had access to a lab I could do that for ya lol right away.. I have a seeded nycd x nz skunk . with some OG18 x Skunk pollen.. and I also have sensi nycd x nz skunk.. just no lab .. the only difference I really can tell without a lab is the trichs seems to amber up a lot quicker making the seeded buds a little more couchlock and sleepy.. and they both were taken down at 75 days.. so id love to see the difference also.

The stars are aligning for me and brought me the perfect room for side by side comparisons. I am able to use up to 7600 watts for side by sides and every crop that goes into this room is dedicated to side by sides with many details. My first test will most likely be Advanced Perfect pH compared to General Hydroponic Flora Series.

I basically use 6 mL General Hydro Micro and 9 mL General Hydro Bloom. I add some Kool Bloom too after 13-14 days of Flower. If anyone knows a fair comparison to be tested with Advanced pH perfect, please let me know so we can discuss this as a group to be completely fair.

Colloidal Silver as a miticide and possibly more

Colloidal Silver as a miticide and possibly more

Salutations,

If more ideas are still welcome then i'll submit evaluation of colloidal silver as a parasite control method meant to be integrated into cultivation projects. Pollen production being one optional bonus...

Actually ideas are quite welcome! I think we should have more experiments to garner the results and publish them.

There is NOT enough cannabis research being done worldwide... let's change that paradigm!

New ideals, I have been training plants loads of diffent ways over the years (soil grow) and want share all my ideals with everyone on this site :)

First one

Letting a plant grow 18-24" and cut it back to 12"
You have a large root mass and a wide bushy plant without having to lst the plant, works really well

not a side by side but this is how it looks 3 weeks in flower

no LST or anything, may just need some bamboo in late flower

This is my idea:

Let´s say 1m 12 clones same strain on same soil mix.

6 grown with plain wáter
6 grown with wáter&liquid feeding
Differences in production / quality/ cannabinoids:chin:

Here's what's on my list for side-by-side grows. I built this cab with the intent of doing some side-by-side grows so everything is exactly the same. Same light, same ballast, same exhaust, etc. It's likely that I'll be building a larger version of the same cab as I'd like to run 600's instead of 400's. The following are what I intend to run in my CURRENT cab under 400's.

Defoliation - already began. Will be doing this in ONE cab, may repeat using two separate cabs. I'll be ensuring that the non-defoliated plants do not shade out the defoliated ones. 2 strains, 4 total phenotypes. The reason I'm only doing this in one cab, is because one side is currently a perpetual SOG with multiple levels (pic is old) and was only in mid-flower when the cab dedicated to this test was emptied.

CMH vs HPS

Vertical vs Horizontal - this one may be harder because 1) I don't own reflectors, 2) I imagine the environment will differ given a hood is essentially a radiator that holds heat and the duct runs will be different. I'll see if I can't get it done, though.

I'm not sure if side by side comparison grows are the real way of determining actual useful methods for our hobby.

For example, if we took the top 5 requested experiments we would see variables that we can't account for.

1. defol

2. distance

3. nutrient test comparison

4. sugar or no as a finishing agent.

5. temp

IMO, each is highly subjective to the genetics at hand. Even then, we can't be sure of the methodology of the person who is actually conducting the experiment to understand the difference between generations amongst test subjects.

Testing penetration of lights, flow charts for new set ups, those i can see happening. Thats the kind of information that can be replicated in different environments.

I think until we get to the level where we can better understand the physical components of what make up a plant and the genetic nuances, all of these tests will be only applicable under the exact physical environments they were tested in.

What I mean by physical components are identifying strains other than their THC/CBD content or leaf structure. Whats the internode distance, length of branching, stem thickness, water retention.

What about for each plant having a base measurement of:

1) intake of CO2
2) production of O2
3) the production of carbs
4) Measuring the increase in dry/wet mass

What is the base pot size used for all testing? Are we assuming that all tests are indoor tests?

I am all for more testing and more research, please don't take away from that wall of text that I'm playing devils advocate just to be d*ck.

All I'm really saying is that there should be parameters for ALL testing before we even start to discuss what to test.

Have a great day guys.

here's an idea -
12/5.5/1/5.5 (DLI it is called?)
vs.
regular schedule

i'd do one myself if i could but i really am can not .
be more than happy to see one though .

Getting ready to take delivery of all my goodies, its my first grow and I want to get it as close to right as possible. Advice Welcome.

- BC Northern Lights - BloomBox
- BC Northern Lights - Mothership
- Titan Hyperion 1 Atmospheric Controller
- CO2 Regulator/Tank
- Battery Backup (Working on a homemade version, amazon has great deals on SLA batteries with high AmpHours. I converted my sons powerwheels from a 9.5 AH SLA battery to a 26 AH Rhino SLA battery and it was super inexpensive)

I'm using my closet to hold the boxes. I decided to get a rolling 12,500 BTU AC/Heater to run independently, cooling and dehumidifying only the closet, hoping that keeps temps inside the boxes consistant. Maybe it will save me a little power by not having to cool my whole house all day too. Since I was on a spending spree I went ahead and got a Oreck Air Cleaner too (total over kill, but wtf its my new hobby). Just got done ripping the carpet out of the closet and installing hard wood floors. Hell yeah, ready for delivery.

Has anyone tried 2700K white light LED vs fairly professional blurple brand LEDs with the same wattage.
