New Miticide

Permanently getting rid of mites in a garden requires spraying preventatively for pests even when we don't have a problem, it's a pretty basic IPM strategy.

If your only using one pesticide over and over again such as forbid (even if it appears they are permanently gone)you are artificially selecting for mites with a resistance to forbid . The more you keep applying it the larger the population of mites with the resistant gene becomes until the pesticide no longer works at all.

I'm not certain as to which pesticide applicator course you took if it advised spraying chemicals without seeing the pests that you are targeting. Here are the six elements of IMP (Integrated Pest Management)
- Prevention
- Identification (pests and beneficials)
- Monitoring of the populations (on going basis)
- Using injury/action thresholds to determine the appropriate time for treatment
- Using treatments
- Evaluating success

Also, if you have a reoccurring pest problem you may want to entertain the idea that your plants aren't as healthy as they could be. Remember, ounce of prevention is worth pounds in the end, lol.

I do cringe at the thought of some unknowing kids, puffing on something that I grew and wouldn't puff...but it's not my farm, and my superiors could give a flying F...;) sux to be a boutique minded grower, in a beasters world. but that said, brokers wan't trips and quads but only wan't to pay a tad more than for beasts ???

hi big bag

i know 4 beasters from maple ridge all got hodgkins lymphoma within a year of eachother.

and they all have friends getting the samething from surrounding areas. usually happens around the 10 year marks of their growing careers. these guys never wore masks working with bails and bug chems. lets not forget the karma of selling that chem sprayed shwag to minors

med-man

real interesting discussion here.

damn, talk about karma of the beast. that's a bitch.

so glad all my ash has been snowflake white for the last 4-5 years.. still feel sorry for what I've done to my lungs and body from ocassionally smoking a beast from time to time before then.

shit is no joke.

Lol. I would say it comes from people like you who recommend rotating pesticides instead of doing what it takes to get rid of them permanently. If pesticides aren't working then you have to chop and CLEAN the fuck out of everything. Would you seriously grow out and smoke a plant covered in mites?

some poor growers that are in agricultural settings surrounded by commercial crops like soy get pounded by mites and as a added bonus the mites usually have some chemical resistance from whatever the farmer has been using for control

other than up and moving the only solution is to use chemicals and rotating different products is the best way to avoid developing resistance in the pests

I only preventatively spray moms and I tend a mom room with easily 30 varieties, and I am always adding to it so you can bet my ass I have a preventative regimen in place for mites mildew and root pests. Almost every cut I've gotten from a grower in BC had mites or pm

Pretty sure the first principe of IPM preaches rotating pesticide classes to prevent a resistant population from occurring.. Common sense .

If you choose to spray your moms on prophylactic basis - give 'er, but don't say that first part of an IPM strategy is resistance management. You can only look at resistance management once you are evaluating your success, after the treatment.
7 out of my 10 strains are clone only, some came with mites, thrips, etc. If you properly quarantine and treat the new arrivals, you shouldn't have to spray the rest of the plants.
Personally prevention has done wonders for me. First room in my facility is a change room, so no outside clothing in the growing area. The growing areas are fully sealed, so no bugs/microorganisms can get in. Plus the whole thing is HEPA filtered to boot. No bugs in 3 years in the same location...

If a highly effective product like forbid doesn't work then you have to destroy everything. It is the only way at that point. Continuing to grow while having mites that can't be killed doesn't make any sense. All your doing is breeding super mites. Man up and take the loss so you can stop smoking buds covered in mites and pesticides.

Some of you folks make it sound like mites will never build a tolerance to forbid. Nothing lasts forever. Peace GS

ps. we do preventative sprays while quarantining new varietals, just in case. Other then that, no sprays are necessary, as we have no issues
