Hey all, just harvested and came across about 3 seeds per plant while sorting through my nugs.

picture.php

see that little shit? ^

I hear that sometimes plants produce a few seeds in the top colas to carry on it's genes, and I'm basically wondering if these would be stable. I really would love to run these again, as I never cloned before flipping into 12/12; but I won't do it out of faith that they won't go herm and pollinate everything in my flower room.

Help!

Also, some details on the grow:

Organic soil

5x10 flower tent - (SOME light may have leaked into the inlet vents at the base) which is why I'm fearing hermies. But to my understanding, hermies produce more than just a few seeds per plant...

4 plants -

Blue widow: saw 1 nanner on a single bud... big enough to matter?

SnowLAnd (pictured): collected the most seeds from her (20) from lower popcorn nugs

Jack Diesel: 1 seed found, no nanners

OG 13: 6 seeds found, but it looked like this turned hermie as there were some empty tiny seed pods in some of the flowers, not all though.

So confused! Maybe stress was produced by the light leaks in early flower?

or maybe the one nanner pollinated the rest of the girls? making them all blue widow crosses?

hmmmmmmm......

if ya find only a few the chances of em being stable is higher IMHO. over the years I have found some like you did . most were fine. no statistics tho. you would be surprised how many plants give off a few seeds . i save em, label em and add a ? mark on baggie so i know . peace BTW i soon will be sprouting 2 i found in a lb. remind me later on for my results.

i grew some superskunk about 8 times and on the second last run it pushed out about 4 beans, imo it was stress related ,i think it was me putting a new bulb in the light and not pulling it back a bit! it was the only thing i could think of,so that is what took the blame.all the best. ww

when theres just a few seeds usually the nanners were hidden . good luck picking off the few in the offspring lol. full blown herms are another deal

i think that only happens if you take them longer than usual, like it's a defense strategy that only kicks in at the very end of budding if no real male pollen is available at all. i think i read about one of the european breeders trying to make feminized seeds this way, but i could be wrong...

generally it's because of a few hermie flowers you didn't see, i wouldn't worry about it too much, it happens to everybody here and there, but i wouldn't put much stock in the seeds, i save mine in a pill bottle and use them to clean out glass pipes...every time ive tried to grow a hermie seed it has hermied worse than the mom and without any stress needed to bring it on.

I'd be concerned about hermie's. Get some regular beans if you want free seeds. Just get a small space to segregate males.

I can think of a couple "elite" clone-onlys that are the result of hermies. I bet you can too...

I've personally grown out seeds from plants that had a few nanners and it was good smoke, and no herm issues.

Grow 'em out, see what you get. It's not the end of the world if they go herm, and if they don't, well it's free seed that might be killer

No way to know anything until you grow them out. Can you tell me if you have a child in the next 2 years if he will be retarded? How would anyone be able to answer a question like that. I'm trying to figure out what you even mean by stable. Do you mean will it be very similar to your MOM? The problem that a lot of growers don't seem to realize that even when you self you own plant with itself, the offspring isn't the same as the MOM unless the line itself is a landrace or an IBL. Lots of plants throw a few nanners late in flower. It's normal. This doesn't mean that these nanners will pollinate your whole crop. A few seeds here and there are a good thing.

Yeah, I remember running a few bag seed that I found from some east coast sour d and it ended up being the best smoke I've had (or close to). I'm just confused because 1 plant put out about 25 seeds, while the other 3 only put out about 5. hmmm

That's what I'll prolly do, grow em out and see what happens. The Jack Diesel is the only one I really wanna keep, it's top shelf smoke and seeds are like $25 a pop for those. I'll pop the 3 I have of that strain and pray for the best!

Did you get an abundance of the hermie seed you grew out? Or was it a similar situation to mine where the plant only threw out 3 or 4?

Well given the details I was hoping someone could tell me the tendencies of hermie seeds compared to feminized.

and I'm not sure what you meant by "when you self you own plant with itself", please clarify that part if you don't mind.

These plants were taken to the 10th and early 11th week

Don't discount the possibility of a nearby grower letting some pollen loose during a breeding session or letting males go a few days too many before culling. You could have some top notch seeds or total crap, the only way to find out is to grow them out and find out for yourself.

you mean an indoor grow? and the pollen being in the air then traveling into my intake duct?

I could see it being possible... but damn idk how likely! Hopefully not TOO likely :tiphat:

It's pretty unlikely, but pollen is made for traveling as far as it needs to in the wind. If you continue to find seeds, but no apparent source of pollen on your plants, it could be worth considering filtering your intake.
