HOT5

Pulled first plant today (pic 1 & 2). Moved it in tact to the closet. Will give it 24-48 hours darkness with minimal water. I have no idea whether it improves quality, but it doesn't hurt, so...

There are a number of potential reasons why she is so small- F1 pheno, almost completely light blocked by Melanie, and farthest from the pump (I think I need a bigger pump for 3+ HH Rings), also I need to improve HH Rings position. Roots not getting full delivery of nutes, much better on the other 2 plants

As you can barely see, Melanie's canopy covers >90% of the entire 2 x 4 tent

2 down, one to go.

Melanie finally has the space to herself
:woohoo:

2 pics of plant #2, sans primary leafs

She is outside the tent, getting ~ 6 ozs of ~ 100ppm, mostly CalMg + a few drops of concentrated Himalayan Salt liquid for minerals

Clones doing as well as can be expected. Friday, I upped ppms from ~ 200 > ~ 420. Could have done this sooner, but was waiting for the mothers to finish

I chopped one cola from Melanie's top which had zero white pistils.

Plenty more where she came from

Trimmed a few more smallish colas (~ 7")

Running out of time to let Melanie finish as clone root systems are bursting out of the tote- sucking all the nutes out in 24 hours

The cube is something I have wanted to get made as an internal tent frame onto which stems can be tied and controlled. Bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Alas, not available online. I had to drive 22 miles out of my way to the only store that had it! The dowels are pretty flimsy, but the ball connectors are adaptable to stronger dowels. Retail is $19.99 but 20% off coupons are readily available

Well, pistils are everywhere, so no turning back now

I keep lowering the stand to create more distance from ufos.

I need shorter ufo wiring harnesses, probably have to make them

First pic is shorter 2 clones

More branches harvested, trimmed and weighed, plenty of work left to do

All branches cut are greater than 20gms with the one branch above the break, where I had to in order to keep some light on the other 2 plants weighing in at 2.7 ozs! (pics 2 & 3)

I thought to do this a few days, but only got around to now.

I replaced one of the Quantum Flower Bulbs (2900K) with a Wave Point Coral Wave, which has a nice 730-760+ range

Another lesson learned. Prepare for the unexpected...

I anticipated fully harvesting Melanie (tall clones mother) over 7 days ago, but she soldiers on. I have harvested ~ 50% slowly over the last week

Yesterday was the first day I saw both cloudy and amber trics, probably due to replacing one 2900 with one Coral Wave. Good thing I had a backup as that one died.

The Moon cycle for sowing/harvesting says best window to harvest begins on December 23

Due to this unexpected/anticipated delay, the clone roots have outgrown the ~ 2 g tote, and I have nothing on hand that is deeper that accommodates the lid. Sigh

The clones are slurping > 1/2g per day

The taller two are easily 15" taller
over 3ft tall

Thought I would post a few pics of Melanie. Holding out for the 23rd to harvest under 4th quarter waning moon under constellation Leo

Also,clone group shot + a close up of Melanie's 2 clones

Under this combination of 3000/5000K 90w ufos, inner nodal spacing is very tight

Most surprisingly, pistils/bud sites everywhere at ~ 350ppm. Keeping the daylight schedule too low (14 hours) was an influence on this sat dom strain

Here's an interesting update

I put my plant in flush mode ~ 2 weeks ago. I dropped ppm from ~ 500 > ~ 200. Almost all pistils were red and dead

I then started adding a few drops of Himalayan Salt sol + ~ 60ppms of CaMg+. Now I have NEW pistils! WTF?

My take is: perhaps the combination of magnets + flooming over polished ornamental river rock will allow for much lower ppms.

That would be cool, though I do not use a lot of nutes anyway. I ramp up from 200 to ~ 800 than a one week bump to 1000-1100, then back down to flush

You should be able to see the new pistils in previous pics, and the lack thereof a bit further back

no offense intended, but that plant is not impressive in any way, shape, or form.
i think to call them "the next rage" may have been a slight over statement.

Thanks for the honest criticism

Well fat forearm colas are not the pheno of many sats, but yes I could have done better, and expect to.

This was an experiment, which means the conclusions were unknown going in. The intent was an all led grow for someone who could not afford a real world panel and did not have skills/equipment to make one.

Also I was expecting to add a lot more led tube watts, which did not come together as I found commercial office panels (2 x 4), which would provide a more uniform light over the entire tent canopy. Alas, that never came together, though panels have been ordered now

The main issue was insufficient watt/lumens/umols of light when they were seedlings/young vegging plants.

I started out
with A19 household led bulbs then added 4 led tubes @ ~ 16w. The ~ 115w during veg which was not enough, PLUS, the overall spectral blend was ~ 4000K- too warm for veg, so they stretched more than I wanted

Dialing in what spectrums, when and how much, is a big deal

I was forced to move them from the led tent to the hot5 tent. I added too much red spectrum, too soon, which caused even more stretch than her (Melanie's) clones have. (see link below)

And finally, my plan was to pollinate ONE branch, but wound up with Melanie being ~ 90% seeded

See my new thread where the clones started under one 90w 5000K led then once sufficient leafs developed I added a 90w 3000K ufo (net of ~ 4500K): clones look great . As 2 of the clones were from the shorter pheno mother (now ~ 12" shorter) I added 2 @ 16w 3000K led tubes which I am ale to lower directly over them, but only a portion of the 32w is being absorbed as the tubes are 4ft whereas the canopy is 18".

Melanie under the hot5 will be harvested today.

I was hoping to have a new led panel donated in exchange for a grow thread, but it's not here yet, so I am forced to put Melanie's clones under the hot5, but
with revised spectrums to ~ 4500K until later in bud, I am expecting much better result. Hopefully, the new led panel will arrive soon

Quick Update

Will be moving Melanie's clones today to the hot5 tent. Note the color temp difference due to ~ 4000K over Melanie's clones v 2 @ 3000K over the shorter clones

IMG_2002.jpg

Just finished trimming most of what was left from Melanie
171gms trimmed.

Melanie still has ~ an oz left for my partner

Wrapping this thread up...

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Did not get Melanie clones moved yesterday as I had too muchrevamping to do to the wooden tent frame to better accommodate draining nutes from the DIY table

BRAIN FART
(what took me so long?) Looking at my recir flooming rez, it occurred to me to move the magnets from being on the feed line (where only affecting while nutes that are passing through) to the recir lp pump tubing where nutes are pumping 24/7. DOH

Thought I would post a pic of the cubes in place. This will allow LST type training

One can purchase dowels from Lowes/HD and cut to various sizes

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] I read about this several years ago, but did not try it.

Going to this times. I need it for my lawn, which has suffered since hurricane Wilma ~ 7 years ago

Will experiment in my rez too, unless someone has contrary 411.

LED tubes have really taken off. Probably because of the quality diodes used huh? I get what you are talking about DIY now - did you make that cube yourself?
