Electric Use went up when it should have gone down! WTF?!

Don't want to go into too many details. Suffice it to say that cycles were switched (got shorter), and instead of the bill going down by 1/3 like it should have, it went up 25%! I have a wild conspiracy theory that the electric company is saying "we know what you are doing so we will overcharge you. If you complain, we will have an excuse to come to your place and snoop, if you don't complain then we know you are doing what we suspect since you aren't contesting it (basically "confessing" without ever saying a word). I don't want electric guys inside the house or even right outside. What do you think is going on?

More and more people selling their gear because of electricity and the market

The EC may charge more during higher usage times like mornings and early evenings when people are using the most electricity.

Are you running cycles at the same time that you were?

Are their any other appliances that might be running that werent previously? heaters? Or is it all dedicated to growing?

And the EC is not extorting you. Trust me.

your kwh rate from previous bills.

Check how many kilo watt hours (kwh) you are being billed for. That is the number you look at to see if your usage went up or down. Rate per kwh can change based on season or time of use or amoun over baseline, so overall bill is not a good representation of amount of power used.

ok ,that is very plausible ,and sound thinking ,buy I think ,it could also be they new Obama power hick on the green house emission laws by shutting down coal fired power plants so they could monopolize the rates ,did they put on a smart meter ?it has amazing wi fi capibilitys ,one of the better things to ride ones self of for shure!be carefull think it through ,and if in doubt clam up,

yeah the usage went down, still not as much as I thought it should of, but the rising rates made for a noticeably more expensive bill.

Where I live we have tiered rates. So the more you use, the higher the rate.

And they change the tiers seasonally, so the # of kilowatt hours billed at the lowest rates goes up or down, but the rates per kilowatt at each tier doesn't change.

Although they do raise all the rates once a year it seems.

The time length margins are tiered to be more expensive during peak usage rates as well. That's why the energy companys play commercials during the summer saying don't run your ac between noon till 8pm. Knowing well that this is the hottest time for your home thus the time frame you would need to run an ac.

And yes they do charge more for more usage wich is messd up imo.
Thats like someone telling me he here's an ounce for 200 $ if you want the whole Lb.its 5k

thanks skip and everyone else! where I live, there are different kinds of plans you can be on, like residential or farm or industrial and so on. I believe we are residential, I know I am not the other 2 I mentioned. Do not have a smart meter, and with our plan the rate changes month to month but not during the course of a day (ie "peak usage"). I know one of the plans does charge more for peak but not on that one. Some say it is better, for instance if you have 2 1000 watt lights, to run one at day and the other at night. To me though it doesn't: why would you be drawing that kind of juice at night? During the day it could be anything, a wood working shop or some sort of business that draws a lot of juice or whatever. ok enough of my 2 cents and thanks for listening!

Look at what else is sucking on juice. Running a dehumidfier cost a lot more than what you'd guess. Every little gadget sucks on the power. I always double the kwh rate to get at what it is when fee's are added. It's a good idea to get a word document out and do all the math. Know what every phase of growth costs, total kwh hours, all of the details. Just make sure to double the kwh rate. Or even tripple to be extra safety cautious.

That same thing happened to me but worse! The neighbor was a snooping, narc, gradeA, A-Hole.
He was telling the cops the plate #'s of anyone who came around the neighborhood. (found this out later).
The electric company charged me almost double after I shut off all my A/C's and flipped my plants from 24/0 to 12/12.
They sent a guy twice, per my request, to double check but they said it was correct. Bullshit. I never paid them and moved right away.

I was being closely watched cuz of the guy across the street. The fat, nosey, bastard. The Electric Co will run you out if they get a call from the police asking about electric usage. If they dont get any calls, and the electric bill is on the high end, they will send you a letter about energy efficiency. But they will leave you alone cuz they want youir money. As long as the police dont ask about you. Your fine.

had this happen.. call the electric company.. and ask them if they can monitor your use for 1 hour. then go and unplug EVERYTHING.. and tell them that your doing this.. every single outlet. empty.. and all light switches off... .. see what your house is using with everything off.. my last place.. there was a idiot of an electrician who wired a part of the house fucked up.. and if I just popped the breaker off. nothing in the house would turn off.. but my energy bill went down 100 bucks. ? we called an electrician.. and everything.. they haven't found out why its doing this, so for now the breaker is just off.. and we have to have him back next week to have him rewire that breaker.. see if theres a fuck up somewere.
