cheaply made stuff?

My dad ran a shop with his war buddy back in the sixties. Fixed toasters and blenders
and other small appliances. Two guys made a living at it for a few years, couldn't do
that these days with the snooty attitude and cost benefit low end.

When did it become bad taste to fix something and keep it for a few years?

Au contraire, a lot of people think it's in bad taste to buy cheap crap and then throw it out. I know I do...

Cambodia is definitely going to go factory...friend of mine was just out in Siem Reap and the changes in the last decade have been immense. Our kids (or grandkids) are going to be laughing at cheap Cambodian crap pretty soon.

I really wonder who's gonna be laughing at who

it is even made difficult/impossible to fix things by design. parts that are glued together so you can't take them apart to repair, etc.

here is a fitting quote from huxley's "Brave New World"
Ending is better than mending. The more stitches, the less riches.
of course it means 'less riches' for our industrial overlords. ;-)
