All is well

All is well

I haven't been on for a while & was surprised to see this thread still here.
Thanks for all the well wishes my friends, you know it's mutual.
I have been involved in a bunch of new things & I promise I'll post some new stuff.
I was floored the other day when my niece posted this picture on her facebook page. I have no idea how she found this, I thought all those pictures were long gone.
This was yours truly in 1969.....next stop Vietnam.

Pig Roast

Pig Roast

A few more pig roast pictures. I built this portable pig roaster from items from Home Depot. Haul it out to the lake in my pick-up. Sets up in about 1/2 hr. Cooks a whole pig in 5-6 hrs. Everybody & their dog had a good time.......

Welcome home brother............I was 68W Medic, 9th infantry....everybody called me "Doc"..... I patched up quite a few 11Bravos, you got any VC ventilation holes?
I tell people that I had many men breath their last breath in my face in Nam, unfortunately many were ours....

Not one goddamn scratch in 10 months. That's with every swinging dick in my squad hit one afternoon. Just me left to bag up the wasted.
They called me shooter.
We're sweeping a ville south of Trang Bang. I ain't been in the field a month. I'm told to go behind the hooches in case somebody runs. I get there and me and mamma san spy each other about the same time. She's stuffing ammo and grenades into her pajama top. She takes off with me chasing her with a full pack on. She reaches the road and I start hollering shoot her, shoot her. She makes the paddies on the other side of the road, I drop down to one knee and put a round in her back. The Plt. leader runs up screaming check your fire, check your fire. Hits me up side the head and threatens to have me charged. I walk over to the VC, flip her over and all the ammo falls out. The Lt. looks down and says good shot. So from then on my nickname is Shooter. The FNG's thought I was a bad ass. Everybody that was there would just laugh. Oh well, just another day in the Nam.

I was assigned to the 9th's field hospital at Dong Tam, but would get assigned to which ever battalion was short on field medics. Not all medics went into the field, many were assigned to field hospitals & clinics. No such luck for me! I spent a lot of time living on Navy barracks ships in the Mekong Delta. Mobile Riverine Force, Brown Water Navy. Went on many operations in the Rung Stat Special Zone, an area of flooded mangrove swamps, infested with VC in the river delta. The Vietnamese had a name for the Rung Stat, "Forrest of Assassins".....We would spend 3 day patrols in there and never get out of ankle deep water. Hell of a place to fight...."Don't mean nothing"......
