Is MMAR Possession License Still Allowed???

We are now past Sept. 30/2013, the end date for all new applications to the MMAR for growing(PPL's or DPL's).

But what about the license to possess, has that also been stopped? I do understand the reasoning behind the government and them picking Sept. 30(I'm not in agreement), as an end date to new growers and that only renewals for growing will be processed. But, what about the license for just possession, since possession and growing are completely separate licenses.

I have a friend that uses Medical MJ on a regular bases(14 gr/wk), she worries about her family and their safety. I would like to help her become legal, so she and her family are safe and can relax.

My question:

Can a patient that wants a license to possess Medical MJ, still apply to and receive a possession license from the MMAR? Or has this also been stopped?

I'm asking as to not get this persons hopes up and then she gets denied. I would think, but I have not heard or read that the MMAR program is still accepting NEW applications for possession, but I would think that should still be allowed.

Has anyone any info on this?

Thank You,
it is Greatly appreciated.

You can still get a licence to possess and buy from health Canada. They are just not giving out licenses to grow anymore. To be honest there is no reason to apply at this point, by the time you got processed you'd be able to buy under the mmpr anyhow. best thing for them to do is call health Canada. I know if you have a license that expires after april 1 you can use it to register with a Cpl under the mmpr.

That's what I thought.

I believe it is totally worth applying for, it makes you legal and safe until mar. 31/14, and if there's an extention, you're good. Thanks, I'll get her signed up ASAP.

As of October 31, there are lawyers in BC challenging the changes in court.

That's good news...an extension until it is all sorted out in the courts...Great!!

In a perfect world...The final out come would be that the MMAR continues to operate along with the MMPR, giving medical users a choice to either purchase or grow there own medicine.

OR...

If that isn't possible...Grandfather all original PPL's, and anyone entering the medical MJ program after Mar. 31/14 will have to purchase through the MMPR program.

Either of these out comes would be fine, the first being the better choice, of course. I and my other MMAR members, have invested thousands of dollars into our grow area and should be allowed to continue using and growing our own medicine. Since I am on a fixed income(as of last year...Sept./13) of less than $1800.00 a month disability pension and 75% of members of the MMAR are also in this same position, it will make it impossible to purchase medical MJ at prices over $1-2 per gram. I have grown my own medicine for 8 years and if it wasn't for the medical MJ I grew and used, I would have had to pension off 5-6 years earlier.

I am a total believer in the miracle of medical MJ and could never go back to all the prescription opiates I used. I am left with only 2 choices, with the new MMPR program...Continue to grow and risk jail and loss of everything I have acquired in my life time or stop using medical MJ because I can't afford it.

This is an unfair request of any citizen of this great country, Canada.

Thanks for the time to vent...I know this has nothing to do with the original topic of the thread.

Peace...B

PS.I will be helping my friend get to legal, no mater what the out come on Mar.31/14.
