nothin to see here folks, move along :)

i would be ecstatic if i hit the GPW goal for once. i never have. the closest ive been is about .66 or so. if i could get at least .75+ that would be good. its all looking great so far. they seem happy and healthy.

kickin' ass! i think you'll get the GPW. you need taller cages.

Fun thread DH.

Looking to get my PPK game back on. 1st run in coco gave me some problems with tailpiece pluggage so I'm looking to do it right this time. Still managed to get 1.7lb per plant (7 plants) around 6400w (12lbs total) so I'm stoked to see what I can get out of turface/napa. I should be able to crush 1GPW if even a troubled garden gave me that (.85GPW)

I've been using Jacks + CalNit on my wand fed coco plants and keep having Mg- trouble. A small mom in RW block loves the stuff with perfect health, but my coco plants are always droopy with purple petioles and crinkled/twisted leaves. They look good under T5 and then go into a funk immediately after hitting the HPS room.

I'll likely run Napa 8822, as I can't seem to source turface here. I see you washed it.. did you screen it as well? Preparation of the Napa has been what is holding me back. I just instinctively throw rooted clones into coco pots and then never get around the prepping some napa. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop running coco and want to break free!

I see Jacks raised their prices. Was paying $87 after shipping for the Jacks+CalNit combo... this time it came to $114. 1st world problem...I think it'll cost almost a buck now to fill a 50gal barrel. lol

Looking to scoop up some of these bonsai heros everyone's repping now a days. Where is the best place to order them? I see the prices vary widely across the web.. wanna make sure I get the correct ones and not some knockoffs.

i have run the last 5 plants in with napa. haven't harvest them yet but based on the results of a plant i grew in the napa it looks like there may be an advantage over turface. or several advantages, the napa weighs about .33 less per volume than the turface which makes it a lot easier on the back.

but also i think i saw a noticeable improvement in bud "quality" in the sense that the buds seemed slightly larger overall and slightly more dense. the plant yielded 29 oz's.

i'm not sure yet but i'll know after a few more plants.

i think maybe the DE has a higher usable pore space per volume and this may be why.

as far as prep i screen mine lightly over the regular aluminum window screen and then wash the hell out of it.

18 gal tub with a bunch of 1/8" holes in the bottom.

then rinse heavily in place in the grow container.

one bag, after screening fills one of my containers to the right level with a little left over. maybe a pint.

Delta... does the 8822 seem reusable?

it is but it has a softer, more flaky, crumbly, consistency and can be broken easier than turface. repeated re-use will probably break down the initial air porosity slightly each time it's used.

so because it is more fragile to handle and the fact that it is 7 bucks a bag i'm just gonna toss it personally.

THANKS EVERYONE! i just got back from my spot and got some very exciting night shots. i think i am getting some sort of def in my rockwool plants with the jacks but idk. could be ph but looks like cal/mg as its just burns on the serrated part of the leaves.

the original plan was to raise the cages up to contain the plants but that will compress them inwards and reduce penetration so im just gonna trellis them.

grow4flow you should try out a vert donut scrog. more available space to fill with buds and if you trim and scrog good u can do really good. just gotta know your strains. i say screw all the boosters with the results that im getting. im not gonna risk something upsetting the balance of my ppk. its been the easiest system ive ever run and would hate to complicate such a beautiful thing.

FF- i did not screen my FD at all. i put it in a rubbermade with holes and rinsed what i thought was really well until i fired up my ppk for testing and the water turned grey lol. i installed the fish tank filter on the res and now im crystal clear 24/7

the last pic of the single plant is my mosca negra OT bubblegum. it was worth the 120$ for the pack just to find this one keeper BUT my EZ cloner is fucking up and they ARE NOT ROOTING! idk wtf is happening. not one. im tempted to pull a few out and put them in rock wool and see if i can get em to go. im worried if i cant get them to reveg. i really wanna run this one in the trees if possible. if not i have a really branchy open blue dream cut ready to go.

still looking for WIFI seeds or cuts but to no avail. checking up to 3 hours away and may have to make a drive to get em if i have to lol

thats the right stuff but unless you buy it in bulk i bet its pricey. the napa floor dry is accessible almost anywhere and works pretty damn good for me

Yea, I have a napa right around the corner with 17 bags in stock but was looking for turface for the simplicity of recycling it each run. Also just found the tuff stuff feed tubs for $7 each, can't wait til they arrive

where did you find those tubs at? ive been looking everywhere. i plan on reusing my floor dry at least once. but even if i dont its dirt cheap and i have 3 bags pre washed and ready to go. you really dont need that much media in the ppk since its hourly flooded. 24 feeds a day makes for a very large happy plant in this system

I actually just did a google search for the model (tuff stuff kmd102) and found quite a few dealers selling them or less $10. I got mine at a place called Great Plains hardware store in Kansas City, they had 10 in stock.

D9, or anyone that can chime in, is this the stuff we are looking for, and is the price right? i have a dealer close to me that have it in stock but they look to be in cartons.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turface-MVP...434536?pt=US_Garden_Tools&hash=item43c0fa3f68

that's regular turface that good ole bonsai jack has bought for $12 a 50 lb bag and re-packaged into 2 1/2 19.5 lb bags at $25.95 ea.

so that's 2.5 x 25.95 = 64.87 dollars per 50 lbs!

turface works great but i'm not finding anything wrong with the napa stuff and at $7 per plant i don't have to do the work of cleaning it for re-use,

i'm trying to streamline all labor processes to reduce to absolute minimum the time expended to accomplish a finished plant.

thanks DH, good to know. I thought it would be less of a hassle to clean the media after each run rather than screening and washing new stuff.

whats up with your cloner?

without any info pretty sure youre having the classic problem, took me a while to figure out....the pump gets the solution to warm bringing down the DO levels....get a cheapo timer and flip every other 15 minute interval on so its set for 15 on 15 off. This should fix your problems, I have close to 100% clone rates...pm me if you want a few more tips

Hot damn! i just calculated shipping and it came out to $54 and some change

I'm not sure what I was paying before for the 25lb sacks (I think around $30/ea), but they are now priced at $50/ea or the pair for $90.

I pay around $24 shipping.

I'm sure I can find the CalNit cheaper, but then I'd be paying separate shipping so I just bite the bullet and go with the blue stuff from Jacks. I just have to be very careful I don't get any granulates wet and track blue around the house. One misplaced wet speck and the blue finds itself all over the place.

Anyone else sourcing Jacks Hydro for cheaper then $50 a 25lb bag?

So are you not screening the Napa 882 Desert and merely just giving it a good wash? I'd love to just wash a bag, use it, and pitch it somewhere in my woods after use. (EDIT - now seeing you answered this above.. didn't see that before. Thanks!)

i was doing all the prep in the gravel area of my small patio so i really didnt have the time/space with neighbors everywhere. i will say that it is really hard to rinse all that stuff out. you will have to get creative with how you wash it. i almost think a container with no holes would be better and fill/stir and overflow the water til it runs clear and then strain it out. it gets heavy as shit after you wash it so be prepared lol

i just prepped a container and i'm using the 8822. i did not screen it, just washed the hell out of it in one of those black rectangular cement tubs from lowes.

i did the porosity test and it came out right at 33% without screening, which is damn near perfect.

so even though it looks like there is too much fine material in the mix there is not because of the overall porosity.

screening not necessary.

it just gets better!

After all those times you told me to use turface, and look whos on the diatomite now, lol. With no screening I had troubles with plugging the single tailpiece back in the 3.5 gal shotgun hole days...now im thinking about a turface diatomite pumice blend, as long as I can get the proper porosity. I still need to give your rooting technique a shot...
