That last little pig that Rick fed to the zombies was sick. The first two were squealing and struggling in his arms, the last piggy wasn't at all.

So now, we know that Rick has fed zombies a pig infected with the flu virus. The flu virus is such a problem because it frequently mutates genetically to fool our immune system. With the zombie virus now in the same body with the flu virus, will we now see the zombie virus combine with the flu virus and mutate into an airborne one?

Rick also got sprayed with the pig blood right in his face, I'd say he's going to be getting sick real soon...will he croak, will he fight it and survive?

Just thought of an excellent little storyline they should write into The Walking Dead. They are now a community, and are starting to do the things that societies do...like farming, policing, self-defense, etc. Well, another thing such a community would need to do is have some system of health care. Take care of whatever they are able to when people get ill or injured. What a great time to write in medical cannabis into the story! Could have a little garden, treat pain and other situations that cannabis is known to help. Cannabis isn't nearly the hated drug it was just 10 years ago, so I don't think it would really be any more shocking to the viewing public than having gays and lesbians written into story lines.

Who can I write to make that suggestion?

more problems...

more problems...

....according to the preview...their biggest problem, now, is those 7500 new zombies coming down the road!

For zombies; they organize very well? :whee:

OT: Jon Bernthal, the guy who played Shane, is in a new show Dec. 4 on TNT, "Mob City." Loosely based (gotta love Hollywood!) on actual events, he plays an LA cop caught between the powerful and corrupt LAPD and the equally powerful and corrupt mob during the 40's and 50's. Am not much on cop shows, but might give it a look.

In keeping with Talking Dead, do you think the group would be better off with a ruling council...or a "Ricktatorship?"

Personal observations:

Carol's not long for the zombie apocalypse!

I'd be wary of any radio broadcasts! (A trick by the Gov?)

Whoa! For a second there I thought Tyrese had given up when everybody else jumped out of the car high-centered on zombie bodies (This show is hilarious!). Rick best stay on his good side!

Herding behavior has gone from being a problem, to a serious problem!

btw...I had the date wrong for Jon Bernthal's show. It has been corrected.

Ruling council, primarily for one reason....life expectancy is a tad uncertain with the world overrun with walkers. If they put one guy in charge, and that person gets bit and turns into a walker, a new leader will have to be chosen. This scenario could repeat itself every few weeks if they get unlucky. If they have a council, it would more easily and effectively continue to run the show in the event of people getting chomped on.

How does the virus infect the dead ???? you need living cells to infect it just wont work. Gangrene would be a huge issues. plus all those dead bodies should be decaying. where are all the insects that eat the dead...the world should be infested with flies with that many dead.

My #1 question is..... where the hell are all the dogs? I haven't seen a single dog since this show started. Or a cat for that matter, did all the domestic animals just run off n form packs in the woods or what, and if they did when will we get to see the people come in contact with the animals? They prolly stayin away from all people tho, like "hell nah, these fools is eating each other!!! I told you sumthin was wrong with the humans...."

I agree, for the most part. In a (at least semi-) civilized community, the rule of law should be the order of the day. A central committee/council or even collective agreement can make the best decisions for the group, but just one answerable to no-one, is rarely a good idea! I couldn't live under a ""Ricktator"/"Governor." But, therein lies the rub, when the stuff hits the fan, a council won't make the quick decisions needed and someone who needs to lead, has to step up!:peek:

Every person is already infected with the virus, but it is "dormant" until death and then the virus activates the brain stem. Yeah, there are a lot of inconsistencies. But, then again, the whole idea of a "living dead" animal (let alone a human) is a bit far-fetched.

lol...every once in awhile, like when someone looks in a car and flies are thick enough to obscure the body's face, you can almost smell it! Kirkman himself said he couldn't believe how much the censors let them get away with! :D

not that virus. in the last few episodes there's a different virus that's killing the living. The dead should not be able to contract a virus once there already dead. You need a working circulatory system to be infected..

My apologies, I misunderstood!

Hershel said it was some kind of flu. Maybe a swine flu type virus (lol...now they have to watch out for birds!) First the boar in the woods when Rick met Clara,, then the pigs. Then Patric. (That kid is one of the voices in the cartoon "Phenias and Ferb"!) What puzzled me was that the older and youngest of the group weren't affected...but, the healthy adults were? :dunno:

I think it would of been a bit more realistic if they would have put a bit more thought into what happens to things that are dead. Having said that I watch it every Sunday lol..

It's not likely to be an influenza virus, at least not like any now in existence, due to the hemorrhagic nature (with bleeding happening at the orifices) of the compound's sickness. Maybe it's an influenza virus that has mutated with the zombie germ?

There have been influenza epidemics in the past where certain age groups of an infected population become ill in much greater proportion than others.

Rick and Hershel speculated that it was a flu type virus, or even a mutated strain, but in the end they didn't know for sure. At any rate it just highlights what could happen to the group without ever having been bitten or scratched! Whatever kills you, won't keep you down!

Interesting about epidemics, most times it is the elderly or the very young with weakened or under-developed immune systems, so, that was my first inclination!

From the wikipedia page about the 1918 flu pandemic:

Most influenza outbreaks disproportionately kill juvenile, elderly, or already weakened patients; in contrast the 1918 pandemic killed predominantly previously healthy young adults. Modern research, using virus taken from the bodies of frozen victims, has concluded that the virus kills through a cytokine storm (overreaction of the body's immune system). The strong immune reactions of young adults ravaged the body, whereas the weaker immune systems of children and middle-aged adults resulted in fewer deaths among those groups.[11]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic

There is a good book on the subject, I forget what it's title is, but it's quite short, 80 pages or so if I remember correctly.

Speaking of the compound's illness...I really thought that the writers of the show were going to use it as a powerful plot device driving the story into new waters. But, now it seems as though that's not to be the case. If so, they are taking their sweet time with it.

Sad, but it's evidently a plot line based in reality!

I agree, it's a powerful plot device, but I don't think it's going to go far, either. Although, the respiratory problems might make a better back story! You never know who's next!

My guess is, we'll see a growing threat from herding walkers the rest of the season, but first, a run in with the governor!

Tonight, the spirits walk! :whee:
