WSLCB, Department of Health and Department of Revenue Announce Timeline for Drafting Recommendations on Medical Marijuana


Recommendations due to Legislature by January 1, 2014


OLYMPIA – The three state agencies responsible for drafting recommendations to the Legislature on medical marijuana today published their timeline and announced a process for the public to provide written comment. The public may provide written comment at medicalmarijuana@liq.wa.gov.

Section 141 of the state operating budget directs the Liquor Control Board to work with the departments of Revenue and Health to develop recommendations to the Legislature regarding the interaction of medical marijuana and the emerging recreational marijuana system. The workgroup, which includes senior staff from each agency, has been meeting since July.

its WA states effort to LUMP medical and recreational ...TOGETHER
so EVERYONE must BUY from state stores....

medical patients will never be able to afford the 25% price hike....

this is bound to have backlash....
i502 was meant to stay clear of ALL existing Medical Cannabis laws in WA

the state is back pedaling .... why..... $$$$$$$$$$$$$
so the people will rebuttal.....

I stumbled across one of the agencies draft recommendations posted online. Unfortunately I lost the link and have not been able to find it again. If anyone comes across the link please post it here.

The recommendations were not favorable. They suggested that 502 stores would satisfy the "safe access" need for medical patients and would eliminate the need for the provisions in RCW69.51A that allow personal growing and possession of a 60 day supply.

If these recommendations many of us will loose access to legal affordable meds.

For myself: over time I have managed to pull together the gear to grow my own meds. My current cost is around $2-3 a gram plus my time. If the recommendations become law I will be forced to drive 75-130miles twice a month to pay (approx) $12.50 a gram.

SORRY! I CANNOT AFFORD IT!

Current rules have given us safe, legal and affordable access to meds. The proposed changes will take that away.

Another loss:

Today I can choose from a vast selection of strains. I favor high CBD strains as they are most effective for me. If I am forced to buy my meds from a recreational store will I have that choice?

The way things are looking Spokane may be the nearest 502 store to where I live.
It take me almost 5 hours and $70 in gas to make the round trip. On that trip I could buy 28 grams. That will last me less than two weeks.

$12.50/gram X 28 grams = $350 plus gas $70 total $420 every two weeks.

Producing my own: power nutes etc = $2.50/gram X 28 grams = $70

What we have now WORKS! We don't need to fix it.

TAX MY BEER! TAX MY TWINKIES! DON'T TAX MY MEDICINE!!!

After reading those recommendations, I am extremely disappointed.

I have been very impressed with the way that MMJ has been progressing. It seems like there is a lot of forward progress being made in the industry. The standards for most of the medicine that I have seen we're top-notch.

After reading the recommendations it seems that the State Liquor Department is going to cripple the progress being made in the Medical Marijuana industry.

These are "draft recommended changes". They are accepting public input to shape the final recommendations. I have been pleased to find that many of the folks I have contacted in Olympia are listening and receptive to what we have to say.

We can affect the outcome! CALL!! EMAIL!! WRITE!! Tell them to protect our SAFE ACCESS!!

If we are forced to work through 502 stores it is paramount to closing the pharmacies and telling us to go to the liquor store for medicine.

We need reasonable access to the strains appropriate to medical.

We need reasonable access to affordable medicine.

We need reasonable access to medicine close to our homes.

I cannot afford to drive 70-130 miles to pay $12-20 a gram for cannibis grown for the recreational market.

I know that those of you along the I-5 corridor are likely to have some level of access to decent meds if the recommendations are put in place. Please remember that most of us East of the Cascade's will not. Give us a hand. SPEAK UP! Contact LCB & your elected Rep's.

The best advice I'd give patients is to start hoarding seeds, learn to clone really well and look out for other patients who can't grow.
The few states that had med. rules, like Washington, were lenient with who could be a med. patient and the,mostly borderline, doctors made a killing passing out med. cards; God bless em'. Most of the people who are patients now will not be allowed to be patients in the future because the state sure as hell wants that revenue from the patient market so growing your own medicine will be eliminated. The state wants most of the patients moved to the recreational ranks in order to get the big taxes.
When states start seeing dollar signs they will look out for their interests. Realistically speaking the best thing to do is to prepare to be knocked off the patient list and learn how to grow or find someone to grow for you. When a state calculates revenue from a given source and has already decided how and where it is going to spend it, they are very diligent about collecting that money. The party, she is over.
It's time to get real people. The states need revenue REAL bad and trust me on this one, they will get it. This whole med. card free for all is over. Prepare for the end of it and you will be fine. Keep hoping the state is going to continue as it had been with med. cards and you will find yourself out in the cold. States weren't getting the big sweet dollar before and now they will be getting it so they will change things in order to insure they get it. As I said before, states look after THEIR interests. Be smart and prepare.

It won't matter...

There's no way they'll be able to deliver the quality you really need at the price you should be paying.

It costs to grow superior cannabis... the only way I can afford it is because my time is donated and I have it available to donate.

What's absolutely ludicrous here is that it really looks like they're classifying "Medical" cannabis as more restrictive??

The higher the CBD content, the safer the cannabis is for the consumer. It's the "Recreational Cannabis" with super high THC content and super low to no CBD content that's the problem and actually almost dangerous in some instances.

Loving it here in Colorado... hoping everyone gets to push successfully for something similar or better. :D

With the new Wash. rules, will you still be able to walk into a dispensary, look at the prices on the white-board, and buy something seriously resiny for about $30-$35 an eighth ?

Does this mean that they are going to crack down on people who grow independently - that you can't just fire up an MH or HPS in a spare bedroom anymore (or outdoors) and make medicine ?

The if the LCB recconendations were passed as written the new rules would prohibit any grow that does not have a 502 producers license. Also, all mmj patients would be forced to buy from 502 licensed retail stores. Based on the tax structure I would be very surprised to see an eighth for less than $40-$45 and perhaps as high as $60.

That said, I very much expect a significant comprimise. I do expect rule changes for the worst but not as severe as the initial recommendation.
