Beautiful plants... I've seen many Africans with red stems (but also some other genetics from different regions), I particulary love this feature in the plants, they look beautiful.
Here we can see some of the Angola Red from Alex with red stems and petiones indeed so I guess stems won't be rare:

Well Alex really only shared the Angola.s with a few(Whether it be beans or cuts). Vapor for one. What was shared more en masse was the Angola/Banghi. This was an f1, unlike the beans Motas mentioned, as they are actually a hybrid of 2 strains. Having f1 Angola's just sounds wrong. Peace GS

Here be some liamba's at 6 weeks flower,They had a hard time at the start of flower they where a bit root bound and the soil they went into was a wee bit hot, not too bad just a bit. My back was out at the time and the plants did not get as much attention as i would have wished. They really start hard flowering 8 or so weeks in and finish up hard at 12 weeks. I will post some more when i harvesto, This weed is really growing on me in terms of the high and flavor it leaves me wanting to smoke another joint every time. The temp has got real cold the last week minus 3 or 4 at night minus 7 tonight brrr, My therm switch was acting up and the room was getting down to 50 degrees for about a week in the dark cycle, i have some new seedling from the 2009 batch about 6 made it i think will post some pics when they get bigger. Do you happen to know if there any other strains with red stems? Oldtimer's Haze has red stems too goes the rumour, I have never grown some, so I can't speak for myself.
However, as far as I know Oldtimer's Haze doesn't contain any African genetics.
It would be nice if someone could share the knowledge about red stemmed sativas.

Just a theory, but one that I've been exploring a lot.. I think the red stem trait is originally Central Asian, north of the Himalayas.
It's very common in west Himalayan strains (Uttar Pradesh) and Afghanis. Not sure about eastern Nepal, Bhutan and China.. I think the plants are a bit different there.
Strains with red stems: Peru, Ethiopian Highland, Kongo, Angola red, Acapulco Gold, Purpurea Ticínensis, RSC mazar..
@Siever: The Purpurea is an old strain/hybrid/landrace from southern Switzerland (Ticino). There's a nice stroy told by Felix from Owl's Production about it but finally, no one knows what exactly it is... If you are interested, United Seedbanks sells it.
Well, Peru is among the mellowest strains I've tried and doesn't have a lot of taste either, but I happen to like the buzz. Purpurea Ticinensis is an old Swiss strain, supposedly ornamental originally. Picture art by Esbe.

Here is a seedling that is doings the same thing the mom{13} does except more so. I started a 40 or so seeds of Liamba seeds that where made from male nanner flowers at the end of flower. So far i am seeing a lot of females and one potential male. Just wanted to see how the seed turned out{natural fems?} peace

I thank you for your red stem knowledge ,it will help me down the line , all my dj short varietys have red/purple stems from day 1
I notice the thing that makes the liamba throw a few nanners at the end of flower is the buds that are closest to the light {sacrificial zones}. So me thinks the stress from the intense heat close to the light does it, just have to be vigilant{week 10-12) and pick them off with tweezers or have a seed or two in the final product, which i don't mind to much. Always at the tip of the top bud it makes a nanner or two with the radiant heat from the bulbs/ would love to grow some under some real sun and see what they do. The male plant i thought i might have well it defiantly put out a male ball sac first and then the top is starting female flower. Usually the herms i see have a mix of male and female parts in the same area but these are separate, will see if it changes down the road...
