In terms of reliabillity like I mentioned COBs are huge huge step's backwards. Already mentioned all the negative's, and the only positive's of the tech are simply for the manufacturer in terms of easy labor and cheaper period. Having that much watts concentrated works for Intel and the likes in the CPU world because of the types and quality of the materials used on the chips themselves. The materials used in the single emitters squished together on the COBs are probably not robust enough for the long term use. Notice very few of the high-end mfgs are producing COBs (Only Surexi I think...) of these wattages. I wonder why?... I never said they don't produce result's, they are just not that efficient in a technical point of view (Great for profits!).

I am very proud of you chileno! When I first saw you stickin it to these gougers buying the "china sol" I was really excited! I knew that it would be basically the same performance wise as HGL, but hundreds cheaper ;) ...

My bad dude (MB) for "blasting" yall, but IC is like a as scientific a forum as it get's and we don't need any type of salesmen in here not showing us scientific real shit. The website mentions simmilar specs as china so there you go with that (We use diodes from Epistar, Bridgelux, etc... lol.). Oh and if you were reffering to the Sols Heliopto inc, lol that's as legit a mfg as Epi my brotha. Sorry if anybody dont like how I lay it down, but "I keeps it real" (Chappelle voice...)!

Lastly, why anybody's getting mad at me blastin hydro-tranny oughta stop getting butt-hurt. S/he banned for a reason. I hold no remorse for con artists/sociopaths/snitches. I ain't bring up much more then you can google. I got a little thing against this fool causr back in the day when I wanted ta cop an RB26 swap (If you know sonn!) and got way turned off reading dudes rip stories. Never did get over that kinda ish to this day... Really hope dudes gougin everyone with HGL to repay the grands he duped dudes on motors lol...

I joined before you. I did a lot more listening and reading before I decided to open my mouth. This isn't counting my years on overgrow. I've been around and I've heard a lot.

Anyway. Your right..time to get past this.

You have access to hgl lights. Why not start a journal with the new sol? I'd love to see what it can do

I just did a short journal on a china integrated led. Found it ran hotter than I like. Defeated the whole purpose of led. I could have cooled my 600w hps easier. I couldn't contain the heat being circulated.

Reading between the lines of your posts, clearly you are repping (or at least have a vested interest in) HGL lights. I then went to your profile: you state you are an 'Enthusiast" In full disclosure you should change that to reflect your HGL connection.

That way, the educated consumers could just ignore you

well i got about 900 more posts than you.

I couldn't help but chime in when I checked out the HGL website and saw a "$50 off!" promotion if you "Like" HGL on facebook.

Clearly these lights are overpriced to begin with.

As I continued looking at the site, and found the product listings, my jaw hit the floor!

I am using knock-off LEDs that have served me very well so far. I could buy 4 of my equivalently-powered knock-off units for the price of 1 HGL.

I am inclined to believe that HGL has used higher quality components and put a bit more care into the design and construction of their units - but even that cannot justify such an exorbitant price - are you fucking joking me?

Even if their lamps are the dope illumination, can 1 of them outperform 4 bootlegs?

Cereals, it costs a lot more to own/operate a company than you would think, even if operating out of your home. Part inventories for products like these can get costly in a hurry. Price is not my gripe as much as hype

Hi neeks, thanks!

Actually 3 times cheaper (the leds cost me arround US$$220 shipping included for a quad (4) cob led 75w each) ;) and I am quite happy with the results.
My indoor is small, and the temp is 22 to 24 with leds on, and with 250 HPS the temp goes to 28 - 30, so for my size (60 * 40 * 180 cm) is perfect. I am not very tech with leds, only thing I know is that I try several leds since 2010, and this ones are by FAR the best results I can notice. Not sure if is best than HPS (don't think so) but is very good (and love the safety of leds compare with MH or HPS in chance of "fire" hazard)

If you guys think that cheap junk lighting is the same as HGL products I cant help ya, you have been had' LOL

Maybe buy one and check it out for yourself instead of endless speculations'

No I am not going to waste my time arguing about it presenting facts over and over again.

HGL has one of the lowest profit margins out there for the products. How do I know? Wholesalers complain when they cannot get a 40-60% discount. We just cannot do that because we do not have the profit to support it, we sell QUALITY Products not cheap versions of one. However nearly ever other LED grow light company offers this that's why I get shit about it.

You think a $50 facebook coupon shows huge profits huh? Well consider a company like the ones you mention giving wholesalers =50% off. You the consumer are getting about 30% of your moneys worth. Sure it "Appears the same" but O it is not.

Anything from china can grow a plant but is the quality going to be there? No way for you to tell really other than listening to someone else's opinion on something or actually trying it for yourself.

If you do not Like HGL products or prices NO BIG DEAL. Just don't be a dickhead everyday about it, we get it you found a cheaper alternative good for you, that is not everyones interest in products like this.

MeanBean, sorry but NO, some leds from china really really suck. You can try to grow something tho (fungus probably) ;)

I grow since 2000 aprox, and I can tell you (not in theory) that the COB leds that I have and the final results (I am there) are very good, with real pictures. I do want to try the SOL but the price is way too much for what I feel is correct to pay. If you send me one for free I promise you a side by side. I really do not care about the led rant tech, I only care about results, and let me tell you, pictures are talking (just check my signature).

I do like HGL products, what I do not like are the prices. But that is just me, and my opinion.

I am thinking about a 200w (110w actual) cob with 64 led's under the dome. It is made by HouYi lighting. It looks like this is their 5th generation light and is similar to the sol1.

Any users out there?

Actually new person...

Lets talk cob.

So far magnums cob unit looks pretty good. One user has already posted a burnt out emitter though. Should be interesting to see how that light progresses with warranty and final results.

So since my last post, it has been 10 days. 10 days and I have religiously been calling this company (Magnum), with not 1 answer.
This has now been going on for a total of around 6 months
And still haven't received the parts I was promised to repair the unlit parabolic units.

AVOID THIS COMPANY-

"MAGNUM/GREEN GUY LED"

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

DEFECTIVE PARTS

Just sayin' how it is

Now follow ups so far on this post?

Aliexpress is a confusing website and those cob's are outdated by now. Definitely try the KIND or better yet the SPIDER X mcob grow lights (better cost and more efficient).

If you get cheap lights you save money but you also don't get the best yield potential. And if you are putting money towards nutrients.. pfft, waste of nutrients. Get a good light. I still use the spider until something better comes along that isn't just a money grab.

Cobs have become quite popular, but chinese junk in any format is still a waste of good dollars

I am within weeks of harvest growing the same pheno as I did under a high quality BML SPYDR 600 (~ 330w), which uses 3w OSRAM diodes. The COB I am using is a hybrid from Amare Technologies (220w)
