With all dues respect Mr Scott, how does one become a director of research and development of a biotech company without even having a college degree, let alone a Ph.D in a relevant discipline?

Also, would you care to share the name of this biotech company?

sensimilla13, I know more than one breeder involved in studies of cannabis in medicine
chemists are one thing top class growers & breeders are needed to supply a product with the correct makeup for there research
sometimes the grower / breeder knows the plants better than any scientist will they deal with chemicals
we deal with plants that can change characteristics due to environment and method used to grow it

and I doubt he will name the company
suffice to say I can easily check if its really Charles as I said

Indeed. As a grower for 20 years and someone who holds a Ph.D in plant biochemistry with an emphasis of study in plant lipids and secondary metabolites I'm just wondering how a grower and breeder becomes a director of research and development.

Also, if this is a legitimate company I see no reason why he can't state the name of the company. If he is claiming this is happening in the US (he just said federal government so this is a speculation on my part to which I'd like to hear clarified) then it is a direct violation of federal law in a land where the most accomplished biomedical researchers cannot get approved by the NIDA to conduct very well planned research programs.

So I'm curious how someone with no credentials can get this work approved.

It is my dream job to do this kind of work and if someone has figured out how to do this in the US I'd love to hear how, that's all I'm curious about. No intent of disrespect whatsoever.

Now if this is outside the US then thats much easier to understand...except for the director of R&D title. Now, director of breeding I can understand.

I am sure he may not be allowed to state the name of the company as he could be under confidentially agreement not allowing him to discuss certain details of the company and or his work. I am assuming he is setting up shop in Canada with this company as it would be easier to set up research trials in Canada for cannabis than the US. I can think of a few people who have PHDs who have been already breeding for chemo types for quite some time and I believe those people are friends of Mr. Scott.

Raco, I'm talking about decisions regarding research and development...not Cannabis breeding. There is a certain way to go about directing a research program that is worlds away from plant breeding.

One other thing I wanted to mention about breeding in a laboratory setting versus an underground facility is the utilization of genetic analysis. Breeding for chemotypes when you can sequence the genes takes a lot of the artwork out of it. Make crosses, analyze the outcome either genetically or by testing the plants cannabinoid profile and there you have it.

Also, my statement of dream job was not about breeding the plants but taking the research forward and producing excellent cannabis-based medicines. I'm sorry, but in a laboratory setting, breeding the chemotypes is one of the easier parts of this challenge with modern scientific tools.

GW pharmaceuticals has been doing this for over a decade and have plants that produce large titers of specific cannabinoids which they then purify and test specifically.

One of their most recent special chemotypes is a plant that produces high titers of THC-V. They are starting a clinical trial with this compound very soon.

Also, if it is Canada that seems curious as they have recently stated want out of the medical marijuana "business" and have turned it over to private companies. Unless of course by "backing" he meant consent and not funding.

Confidentiality agreements usually don't come with a clause stating, "you cannot name the company you work for" LMFAO! I've signed multiple of them. They are for preventing the discussion of research secrets until they're patented! Hilarious!

As a final point I want to just wish him luck if this is for real as I am 100% behind using this plant in every way to help people.

OP I can't seem to pm you , I will try to figure out why ? Sensi I work for a private company one of few granted R@D permits by the Canadian government .

I actually interviewed and hired our PHD , I am a traditional breeder most have little to no experience with Cannabis and don't really understand what compounds we needs to identify or for example the regulatory action of CBD on receptor THC effect etc etc .
I can not get into specific research goals we are working on but we are working steady .

I have little experience operating a GC etc , ego does not dictate position in the company I work for we simply do research based on goals and have team members with the most experience work in the area that they know best .

You were a really good friend to me OP I hope we can chill again , Sensi breeding really large numbers of hybrids is a essential part of our program We are growing out as many strains as we can and catalogue the the chemical composition , my breeding program is directed by Chemo type I can not disclose the clinical research side of what we are doing but obviously clinical feedback on specific Chemo types will direct the goals of the breeding program , we also have a tissue culture program in house I do not have our CEO's permission disclose the company name on open forums .
Where I am working and what we are working will become public information in the next phase of our work as a company .

I have the owner of *********** coming in to visit the facility and labs next week we will see where that goes in terms of public information and perhaps pictures .

What's the purpose of this breeding program? I mean what's the plants you come up with, what are they going to be used for? Is it for some extracts that will be distilled in pill form for people with medical issues? Just curious.
