I was so tired last night I didn't even mention that I only finished 4 of the 5 plants. Well, I just finished up the 5th plant this morning, and was able to take a few slightly better photos of the tops of the buds. At the tops of all the buds is where you can really see all that crazy growth that always happens with every single Mandala strain I've ever grown. They just keep on shooting out new pistils and sending out little foxtails. It never affects the end product, either. The hairs turn red like the other ones upon drying, and everything looks normal, except for the funny asymmetrical shapes these buds tend to create. :D

Now I will show off the spiderweb of line I had to run, zigzagging around the closet where I am drying the buds. I was finally able to string out enough for all of them, but it wasn't easy, and next time around I need to spend some time designing a proper and efficient hanging system. What a mess, lol. :D

Here is the view looking in to the right side:

And to the left side:

This is the little triangle shaped area I was able to keep open so that there is this ONE spot where I can stand completely upright without touching any of the buds, lol:

Hehe. Anyway, you can see that in addition to the line, I'm also hanging buds on the cord to the exhaust fan, then there's a random clothes hanger in there that has a bunch of little buds hanging from it... I basically hung things where ever I could! It's a mess in there.

I am very exhausted today, so I'm going to just veg out on the couch all day long, lol.

Very nice man!! I think I have made up my mind; I am gonna upgrade to a 600W for my 4 x 4 tent. I don't think my current electrical setup could handle the 1000W. Those are some nice cola's!!

just caught your thread hush and those plants look damned nice. wanted to know though, that 1k light/ballast you have is it switchable, how much did that set you back?

Thank you! Yes this ballast is switchable. I don't remember the price, but it was the lowest cost one I could find. The brand name is ipower. Bought it on Amazon. :tiphat:

Hey thanks man. :)

The 1000 sure puts out a lot of heat. I have to keep the window banger on its coldest setting in order to keep the temp at the canopy just right, at 75 degrees. I recirculate the heat back into the room, so the air conditioner is working overtime. But it works, at a slightly higher cost of energy than putting the light in a closed loop. I'll do that at some point.

Sexy Harvest!

Your biggest yet since you just got hte 1k?
:good:

Thanks! Don't know if you're asking whether this is my biggest harvest ever, or biggest harvest since I started using the 1000w, but either way, YES! :dance013:

Our recent Rishi Kush acted the same way, but the Satori didn't.

What kind of cure do you contemplate?

Forgot to add- looks great!

Thanks man. You know, I don't know what to think about the cure now. I was thinking I was going to be able to use a couple of 1 gallon mason jars, but now I realize how cute that idea was. It's gonna take more than a couple! I really don't know yet, I guess. :dunno:

This is also the first time I've ever hung buds to dry without manicuring first. I've always been a wet manicure kind of guy, but I figured I would try it this way this time, see what the differences are.

If anyone wants to suggest curing methods or ideas, I'm all ears! :)

Simon's sticky thread "a perfect cure every time" is a must read-

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237

Simon's original post, for sure. I've combined that with the boveda packs discussed here-

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?threadid=255174

It works for me, and will probably scale up with any sort of container that can be made air tight. A picnic cooler & some duct tape, for example. The 62% boveda packs go in once the material has arrived in the cure zone.

Some quick thoughts, before I forget to mention them...

First, if you use fuzzy pipe cleaners to prop up branches, DO NOT USE WHITE ONES. Lol. There are places on certain branches where the white fuzz wore off of the pipe cleaner, and stuck to a bud. It has a tendency to look like fuzzy mold! I'm happy to report that no mold was found on any of my buds, but there sure were a few false positives because of that white fuzz!

Secondly, with a harvest this large, taking up so much volume in the space where it is drying... carbon filters do not seem to work! I'm guessing it's because of how much humidity is being released in there, but my house smells like drying weed! No visitors until the drying is complete, I guess...

I'm so sleeeeeeeeeeeepy. :needcoffee:

I began taking the buds down off the line last night. They are mostly dry. The outside of the buds are crispy, but the stems have flex in them still. Some branches do seem to be slightly more moist than others, but altogether I think I got to them in sufficient time. I'm always highly paranoid about overdrying my buds, but at the same time, that would be preferred to underdrying them and causing mold.

But like I was saying, I do think I've begun getting to them in time, but the clock is now ticking. I spent about 6 hours yesterday pulling the buds down and manicuring them, and it turns out I only completed about 15-20% of the harvest! So that caused simultaneous feelings of joy and despair, if you can imagine that. Joy because, GODDAMN THIS IS A LOT OF WEED!!!!! lol. And despair because, I've got so much left to do and I don't want the weed to overdry!

I'm at work right now, and there's no possibility of going home early or anything, which sucks, so before I left for work today I shut off the exhaust fan in my drying closet. Hopefully that might help suspend the animation in there a bit. I just went to wally world and bought a handful of various 1-gal and 2-gal glass jars. The buds I finished last night are resting in large, glass mixing bowls with saran wrap pulled over the top of them.

I officially have a larger pile of sugar leaves than any pile of fan leaves from my previous grows!! The amount of fan leaves (and larger flowering leaves) I have so far is insane. 3 large, brown grocery bags filled to the brim, and that's from only 15-20% of the harvest. :D The smells of this plant, this time around, are so much stronger than the previous runs of this plant under the smaller lights. I actually wasn't expecting that, for some reason. But yes, I'm catching details in the aroma that I never even detected before this run. I'll be uploading pictures after it's all done.

La vida es buena. :blowbubbles:

Congrats Hush! I feel your pain and joy with the large harvest. It is great to have an abundance of herb but it is a lot of work to get it trimmed and cured by hand.

What do you plan on doing with all of your trim?

Lots of things! I will mostly be making QWISO, as that is my favorite way to quickly get full melt hash, but I think I'm going to experiment with ethanol, too. Then, I'm going to get one of those double coil tanks that work with hash oil, so I can use my e-cig to get medicated. :D

Still in the middle of manicuring, but I just wanted to show one of the bigger colas. This is pre-manicure, straight from the hanging line:

This is taking forever. Something has to change for next time. Not sure what yet, but something has to change. Maybe I just need to only grow varieties with a high calyx to leaf ratio, so I don't spend so much time manicuring. Or, maybe I need to manicure wet. But this is taking forever!

Partially the reason for this is that I am separating grades. I have a high grade pile and a highest grade pile. :D Both grades are being manicured down to naked. I'm leaving barely any protective leaves on the buds. This is causing the buds to weigh a bit less than they probably should. But I'm not selling them, they're personals, so I'm going for quality over quantity here.

The amount of leaf I have is insane compared to what I've ever had before! I have also separated the leaf into 2 grades. I have about a quarter pound of the stickiest, most crystally fan leaves I've ever seen, and another quarter pound of extremely high grade sugar leaf. I don't even have collection plates large enough for the end product much less large enough vessels for the wash itself! So I'm guessing I'll end up doing several smaller oil runs instead of one or 2 large ones.

I'll put up pictures tomorrow.
