Thousands cited for having pot on federal land

It's not that profitable. Doubt the Feds are getting the money. I'd imagine (if you go to court)...and you have to pay a fine...the state probably gets the fees. You will not be going to federal court after all.

It's Federal land...nobody makes you go to a park or a forest..if you can't maintain...then don't go on the land. Deny yourself part of..what makes this country scenic and wonderful...on the principle...that they shouldn't harass you over weed. If that's the price you are willing to pay...more power to you...but it's a silly big mistake

If a federal officer cites you for pot, you'll end up in federal court, guaranteed. OTOH, it's not like it was back in my early days as a stoner, when possession was a felony.

As you say, be smart, be discreet, because nothing has changed for Smokey. If you think your "principles" mean anything to him, you're sadly mistaken.

You are sure about that? So...if I got a DUI on federal land...and was arrested by a federal officer....I'd be in federal court? Don't think so...or at least..I've never heard of a federal DUI. I don't think they'd be transporting me to federal jail or federal court...but maybe I'm wrong.

This thread appears as a knee jerk to me. I mean...you have peeps in here...advocating boycotting federal parks and forests...just because they may get cited for having herb. It's really not much to bitch about imo....certainly not worth..boycotting scenery and sport.

In my everyday experience on federal land...you are either very unlucky or very stupid (ding ding) to have issues over personal possession. I promise you...more peeps get cited for alcohol..than herb. In fact...I bet alcohol often contributes to individuals being cited for possession.

Rangers are mostly about permits to camp...permits to cut wood..permits for particular hikes or floats..etc...don't really see their agenda as busting every pot head they can...as for sure..at least where I live...that would be overwhelming. Now..if they start setting up sobriety check points on the trails...or drug test to be on federal land...then I'll take issue. Otherwise....I have no worries at all...I mean...I'm surrounded by national forest and have to go through Border Patrol check points...just to get around. Such is life.

I couldn't go to the beach where I live without entering the park.I like to park my truck at the back of the lot so I can walk up with some anticipation about how the surf might be.I lock my vehicle now because I had come back to find a ranger rifling through my belongings. His excuse was that "lots of people commit suicide out here or are hunting with illegal guns".
On the rare occaisions, in the summer when the surf is high from a hurricaine, surfing is banned on the whole coast and they block every beach access point. Most of these rangers are here for a specified length of time, a short one. When I see them lecturing tourists about the local environment, I have to laugh. They also have a federal court right here where they take care of all park issues. This used to be a hang gliding destination because of the dunes and onshore winds, now it's banned. The eastern rangers and the western rangers have different issues. Here they have massive crowds of drunk city folks or naked people having group sex in the dunes( a real problem, all jokes aside!).They deal with a ton of clowns. You just have to be aware and be very discreet about your smoking.I tell my kids the same thing, never tell a park ranger to fuck off, you'll be in deep shit!
The fact is that if there wasn't a heavy ranger presence the park would be trashed and perverts would be walking around the beach opening their coats in front of kids with sandcastles.I'm dead serious!:)

I love some of the people's reaction on here. If you can't use common sense, then you deserve the consequences. If you're discreet, the rangers won't hassle you. People smoking pot is on the bottom of their list of priorities.

without those rangers...I'd hate to see the condition of the parks and forests. Your attitude is misguided...as the rangers keep protected lands...protected. They have a mission you know...and it's not about busting peeps all the time.
I agree 100% Jericho.
I think your understanding of what I said is misguided.
I said Rangers are there to protect the land. (Read it again.)
NOT to protect the land from pot smokers.
QUOTE - "Fed Parks are protected from development. Not protected from people using their own legal medicine while enjoying the protected land." Do you have reading comprehension problems like most people on a social site?
Your the kind of person that makes joining these sites frustrating. Always a nay-sayer in the group stirring the pot to make talking with people difficult.
I guess you dont know what Brickleberry is. Its a cartoon about forest rangers that Tosh.0 endorses. It sucks.

Yeah, they're serious out here where I live. Rangers check I.D. at the gate. If you're a housing contractor or land speculator they won't even let you into the park.

So if I owned a construction company that builds homes and thats what I did for a living, Ide be banned from even entering the park? Thats wierd.
Ive never heard of discrimination over a persons job. Is that even legal?
Where I live, they usually dont mess with anyone unless your drawing attn to yourself. Usually its just fish and game checking fishing liscences and checking fire pits.
However....
If your on fed land that is totally illegal, and cut off from anyone even walking on that land, the Rangers will mess you up. I mean, a whole army of staties, townies, and rangers will come and find you. Like drinking water reservoirs for example. They will hunt you down with the dogs and everything if they think someones on the property.

We're in agreement about the issues. I merely wanted to point out that federal officers enforce federal law, not state, and function in a legal system that parallels that of the states. Google "federal DUI". That's particularly true wrt National Parks.

There's a difference between National Parks and other federal lands, oddly enough-

http://www.colorado-criminal-dui-defense-lawyer.com/federal-dui-cases-in-colorado

National Parks are more heavily patrolled & protected than National Forests & Bureau of Land Management territory, with each having different Rangers employed by different depts of the federal govt.

The whole thing is actually quite weird & a bit of a trick bag for the unwary.

My comprehension works fine. Thanks. Maybe...calm down..enough to relax....and you'll see...I understand exactly what I'm saying.

Thank god for nay-sayers....otherwise there would be no conversation. Everyone would just nod their heads..and agree with each other.

Anyway dude...whenever someone says "fuck" something.....that sounds pretty serious. Like you saying "fuk them park Brickleberry Rangers"...sounds a bit over the top...to me. I don't watch Tosh.O dude...but I'll nod my head...to agree...that he probably endorses said cartoon.

How long you going to be around before you lose your tolerance for ignorant fuckers like me? I love your grasp and total genius. You even go out on Federal lands much??...or is it too hard for you....to refrain from fucking everyone?

Agree. The whole Federal/State argument must come to a head at some point. It's especially a problem when dealing with Border Patrol check points (within the state)........those can be a serious pain in the ass. In my neck of the woods...they are hard to avoid.

Still...besides condescending speeches...I've never been cited or had my herb confiscated...by BP agents..or any other Fed agents. That's not to say they couldn't. It's those dogs they use...those little fuckers...once they indicate "contraband" the agents have to pull you over...and waste their time and mine. Tends to piss off all parties involved.

Bye Bye. Keep up the boycott....agree 100% with you. You should not go on federal land...hit'em where it hurts. Is that not what you were agreeing on..with Yort (post #35)? You agreed 100% with his post...that's what I comprehend....beyond that...I need not pay much attention.

I never said you shouldnt go on Fed land. Yortbogey did. Dont put words in my mouth. Im just sayin that I support his decision not to give the parks his money if their gonna be assholes and bully people around, and misuse there authority to screw with people rather than to keep the place safe.
I doubt a group of people smoking some meds around a campfire is gonna harm the land.
But Im done with this conversation. You misunderstand writing. You put words in my mouth. You assumed shit I didnt say or insinuate.
The Brickleberry thing was a joke for those who understood it. Later. This thread sucks now. Thanx.

Well there be the misunderstanding in my comprehension....as I took you at 100% in agreement.

I can do as I please....don't say don't.......ciao
