I have a friend who is dying of cancer, doesn't have anything to leave his family. Another who is pretty much useless in terms of earning anything because of illnesses that laid him out in his 40's. Government takes from all of us to pay the rent there. I can recite a number of people in a number of age groups that either don't have any way to take care of themselves financially or otherwise if they get really sick, or bury themselves if they die leaving that to everyone else to pay. My opinion is that the average American would have an extremely better life if he/she were to focus and concentrate on learning how to take care of him/herself and become self-sustaining. It takes real commitment to do that, to strive toward self sufficiency and beholden to no one. I'm pretty sure that if the average person does that they won't have time to be interested in conquering the world militarily or cheering it on either. Respectfully I could be wrong but then again I'm in my own zone too :tiphat:

that's easy to answer: Israel has never claimed that X or Y country with all its citizens must be obliterated from the face of the planet. nor has it expressed any desire to use nuclear weapons.

the same cannot be said about many Muslim countries who wish to obtain nuclear weapons.

Putin is pretty smart, and he is playing a game with the U.S to establish Russia on a same or even higher level of international influence; he does not give a fuck about Syria, it is only a tool he is using to accomplish this.

No one wants to start shit with Russia either, as they do indeed have high technology and personal able to use it.

however, Russia does not want war either, since if something were to start, their newly accomplished economical success as well as position in international influence would come to an end, as at this point in time, if WWIII breaks out, everyone is fucked.

like it was said, WWIV will be fought with stones and sticks...

one Israeli minister can give his opinion, sure... you may speak Farsi, but you are not the only one in the world who does, and the majority of people who do indeed speak, agree he actually said that, and on many occasions.

speaking of poor information, you give a great example: Maduro was flying in a Cuban airplane, hence why not allowed over Puerto Rico.

even if an airplane full of sugar-cane wanted to pass over Puerto Rico, but it happened to be a Cuban owned one, it could not be allowed.

did you read that little detail in the sources of info you frequent? :chin:

besides, Maduro is as corrupt as Chavez was, and all they ever cared about was stealing the nation's money. As the results of their "revolution" prove without a doubt.

:comfort:

My gosh! Everyone has been playing nice enough that this thread is still here? How cool is that?!!!

Juan Cole, American scholar of the Mideast, Professor of History at Univ Michigan, speaks Farsi and he says that Ahmadinejad never said that. Cole says that there is no equivalent in Farsi to, "wipe off the map". The proper translation would be, "the regime will fade from the pages of history". Ahmadinejad even spoke later about this and made comparison to the former Soviet Union which collapsed from it's over-reach and own internal dysfunction.

And Ahmadinejad was a hot headed loudmouth with no real power over foreign policy. And he's gone now. Good riddance. Rouhani is now president and he wants diplomacy and open internet for Iran.
http://www.juancole.com/2013/09/37620.html

I think the bigger question is; Who the hell came up with that "erase from the map" translation which has pushed the US closer to war with Iran. Another good question is; Why and who is pushing the US towards war with Iran? That was supposed to be the end game of Cheney's war with Iraq, but things didn't work out so swell. And who created and pushed those forgeries in Italy about Nigerian yellowcake uranium that led the US into Iraq? There's so many layers of deception.

But I agree, neither Syria nor Iran would win a war with the US, but that idea was never proffered. The point is that if it happens we could all be the losers.

At least we all agree that good pot is a good thing my friends

and thanks for all the links! I copied them in case they become hard to find later :bigeye:

Juan Cole has been refuted by the own translators of Iran's presidential office, so you're wrong.

""Wiped off the map" controversy

Ahmadinejad was the subject of controversy in 2005 when one of his statements, given during "The World Without Zionism" conference in Tehran, was translated to suggest Israel should be "wiped off the map,"[74] an English idiom which means to "cause a place to stop existing,"[75] or "destroy completely".[76] The story was picked up by Western news agencies and quickly made headlines around the world.[77][citation needed] On 30 October, The New York Times published a full transcript of the speech in which Ahmadinejad was quoted:

Our dear Imam (referring to Ayatollah Khomeini) said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement. We cannot compromise over the issue of Palestine. Is it possible to create a new front in the heart of an old front. This would be a defeat and whoever accepts the legitimacy of this regime has in fact, signed the defeat of the Islamic world. Our dear Imam targeted the heart of the world oppressor in his struggle, meaning the occupying regime. I have no doubt that the new wave that has started in Palestine, and we witness it in the Islamic world too, will eliminate this disgraceful stain from the Islamic world.[78]

The Iranian presidential website stated: "the Zionist Regime of Israel faces a deadend and will under God's grace be wiped off the map," and "the Zionist Regime that is a usurper and illegitimate regime and a cancerous tumor should be wiped off the map." [79]
Translation

The "wiped of the map" translation originated from the state-controlled Islamic Republic News Agency.[80] This translation's use in the media has been criticized.[81] Arash Norouzi, artist and co-founder of The Mossadegh Project, says the statement "wiped off the map" did not exist in the original speech and that Ahmadinejad directed his comment toward the "regime occupying Jerusalem". Norouzi's translation of the Persian quote reads; "the Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."[82] Juan Cole, historian of the Middle East and South Asia, concurs; Ahmadinejad's statement should be translated as, "the Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad)," noting that there is no Persian idiom to wipe something off the map.[83] Shiraz Dossa, a professor of Political Science at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada, also believes the text is a mistranslation.[84]

Ahmadinejad was quoting the Ayatollah Khomeini in the specific speech under discussion: what he said was that "the occupation regime over Jerusalem should vanish from the page of time." No state action is envisaged in this lament; it denotes a spiritual wish, whereas the erroneous translation – "wipe Israel off the map" – suggests a military threat. There is a huge chasm between the correct and the incorrect translations. The notion that Iran can "wipe out" U.S.-backed, nuclear-armed Israel is ludicrous.[85][86][87]

The Guardian columnist and foreign correspondent Jonathan Steele published an article based on this line of reasoning.[88]

In a 11 June 2006 analysis of the translation controversy, New York Times editor Ethan Bronner stated:

[T]ranslators in Tehran who work for the president's office and the foreign ministry disagree with them. All official translations of Mr. Ahmadinejad's statement, including a description of it on his website, refer to wiping Israel away. Sohrab Mahdavi, one of Iran’s most prominent translators, and Siamak Namazi, managing director of a Tehran consulting firm, who is bilingual, both say “wipe off” or “wipe away” is more accurate than "vanish" because the Persian verb is active and transitive."

An international clusterfuck of historic proportions. Can't really trust ANYBODY'S word here. The only somewhat objective party in the conversation is the UN, and they aren't saying Who, just what, where, when. Legit conflicting theories of the attack...false flag (not the likeliest, but it has been done before), measurements indicating the origin of the ricin rockets was Syrian military. If you start to think you're figuring it out...just wait a minute and some other new piece of information will make you reconsider.

I don't think I've ever been so confused as I am now concerning a war situation. Close, but never this baffled.

Only a few things I am certain about:

the use of chemical weapons can't be acceptable

But what about the 100K Syrian civilian deaths from other weapons? Am I saying they matter less than the 1K who were killed with chemical weapons? No (but that is a definite chink-in-the-armor in the argument against WMD's, and one that needs further discussion...is it not time to stop ALL killing, of any kind, in ALL conflicts? How in the hell would we be able to do THAT!? I don't fucking know, all I know is that a problem never gets solved until people start discussing it. Peace must be priority number 1 now, our planet is getting way to crowded, with way too many potential WMD's to be used...biological is the scariest of 'em all, and the ability of small time players like terror organizations to start mixing and playing modern day Dr. Frankensteins is now possible as long as they have big money to set up their labs)

Assad is definitely a bad man amongst bad men

This guy is a piece of shit, worthy of replacement, another strong arm dictator who only causes pain and suffering to the people of Syria.

But...who replaces him? Saddam Hussein got replaced in Iraq, and now look how happy that country is! If Assad gets the boot in Syria, the potential replacements are worse than what existed in Iraq.

And finally.....ah, fuck it, there is too much to consider, too many information conflicts and contradictions, too fucking many contra-indications involved to make any sense of this at all.

Glad I don't have to make any decisions in this mess. It's enough to almost make me want to start praying to god. Ayecufuckinrumba!!!!

Interesting wiki article. I wonder why then Ahmadinejad later went back and qualified his statement by making the USSR comparison? Well he's out of the picture now and Iran has a new president.
