yeah,i screwed up today and forgot my camelback,i sweat far too much to be lax on fluid intake, gets to be hard to drink from the bottles after the water gets hot..the trunk bag i have is insulated so i have been being a whore and stopping at a convenience store and grabbing something instead of carrying the pack..it was hot today...forgot my mp3 player too,the tunes really help when its just turning the pedals over endlessly...i have that advantage of being able to let my attention go slack for brief periods...you are sitting down after all...

Bees and Golden Jubilee

Bees are swarming flowering Spearmint

A cluster of Golden Jubilee tomatoes getting close to harvest

* went out and cut me some young willow branches. Peeled down the bark...wadded it up like chewing tobacco...and kept it tucked in my cheek for a hour or so. Willow is aspirin...works well on minor body aches

To Get Off The Process

To Get Off The Process

I've studied it from every angle..and have experimented on myself..it's most important to become vegan. To help ween yourself off this consumer driven society...to stop feeding it...the 1st step is to become a vegan. Grassroots...proactive....any individual can do it in the present...meaning now

I understand conservation hunting...and I understand raising your own livestock....but eating meat is not necessary to live healthy. It does more harm to the body...than good.

Factory farmed...processed animal protein is a huge reason why...there is so much dependency and illnesses within our population. The industry feeds the chemical companies...feeds the pharma companies...feeds the politicians......and is essentially destroying our lands and water. It is a slaver.

People won't get that....the concerns about being spied on are far more important. Pull another rip...eat another piece of pizza...swig down another coke........and don't forget...they are watching you...farming you. Absolutely...positively..deliberately making you sick...so that they can profit off your condition. Globalizing food, water, and diet....monopolizing the foundations of existence. Until we break away from the process...we are contributing to our own demise. We are a rube...a mark...an all day sucker

Running food.........a handful of this and a few bean/avocado/tomato burritos..and a couple cups of tea

^ every day...pick it rinse it on the spot...wad it up and munch it down. Be a heat run today.......in the mid 90's

A heavy production row of Bush Beans starting to make fruit...let's see...there are carrots, squash, beets, potatoes, and peppers in this picture

Ok...chores are done..it's heating up...and I'm digested..trail time

lol,you leave my dead critter outta this! c'mon, the whole reason humans can even run long distances is to chase down game, our ability to sweat allowed us to run down prey to the point they were overheating...more or less exactly what you are doing with your running...i understand what you are saying but no one got smarter chasing carrots...i absolutely agree with the premise that factory farmed meat is evil and really most forms of large scale protein farming/fishing is done in the dumbest possible way as far as the planet is concerned but imo theres just no substitute for animal protein in our diets, the teeth tell the tale,we were evolved as omnivores...

True. But now the human race has elevated itself away from nature. It is overpopulating the planet and over using the resources. Something has to give. We don't need to be omnivores...

Anyone who believes they need animal protein to survive...in this modern world..is misinformed...or just doesn't want to see the reality of where we are now.

The world would be a much healthier place and its population a lot healthier if we did away with farmed animal protein. There is no argument. When was the last time you heard dietician say stop eating too many veggies and fruit? The 1st thing they'll tell a heart disease victim is to cut down on animal protein...and here...have a handful of pills.

I won't get into the ethics or the conceit of eating meat...just because we desire to. It's not needed in our diets...eating it now...is a luxury. A luxury that is not healthy to us or the animals. I fail to see how this can be argued.

Meat eaters will argue until the very end though...yet the evidence is there...meat is unnecessary for our health. Many probably believe...it makes them a predator...as if...becoming a herbivore makes them less impressive. I don't know if we really chased down game...or how much meat eating had to do with brain size or our ability to think. Science changes its position about every 20 yrs.

Regardless...who cares what cavemen did? They probably did a lot of scavenging..if I had to guess....and probably ate each other. Those were different times.

* Eating animal protein creates an acidic pH in the body (as does an overabundance of sugar).....all of the big diseases inflicted upon the population thrives in acidic conditions. The formation of acidic conditions is a common denominator.

** refined sugar is the most addictive drug applied to the world's population...yet we have been trained on it..methodically addicted. It kills people in ugly ways...every day....while generating huge profits for the slavers. It is an out and out hustle..and has been for centuries.

anyways...I've put a lot of thought into this vegan(ism) thing...and the anti sugar thing..trying not to come across as preachy...is difficult with this subject. I can really only tell you...that it's the pathway I'm taking..and that as it evolves...I can't see any potential pitfalls. It's taken me a lot of reading..and research...but it's really more about...my gut feeling. Gut feeling really never lies to me. It's a hell of a ride though...interesting how you can train the body..how it reacts so different depending on diet. I feel way better this way...more natural...no excesses...constantly flushed

It hasn't been until the last few years that I've fully grasped the concept of "Meat is Murder". Yes it is....on more than one level.

Merrell Ascends

Merrell Ascends

These are the best trail shoes I've found so far. Very happy

^ there are 15 hrs on these shoes. Out of the last 13 days I've run 9 of them..with the last 5 being consecutive. Shoes are holding up really well...way lighter than the last shoes I trained in (lone peak 1.5)...the Vibram bottoms are made of a tough rubber..little slippery...but they feel good...and are not breaking down. Like running in slippers...but with some protection. They have minimal padding and a great rock guard that eats rocks nicely. Hybrid between a padded shoe and a minimalist shoe. 5 Stars...Merrell has yet to let me down..and this new model is money all day...for my terrain...and what I do on it

This balmy weather...and these light shoes...helping me break through to the next level. Can't seem to stop now...everything is favoring the training. I'm eating, hydrating....sleeping 5-6 hrs a night. Hurting too...walking funny some mornings..lot of time on the mat..stretching out for relief

I hurt less when I'm running....that's part of the addiction

Colors

Colors

Waves of maters....waves of peppers..and some eggplant.

Depending on location...as well as...depending on method grown (some pepper plants are in the 3 gal smarties).... and depending on variety....I have tomatoes and peppers harvesting at different times...but now...at a steady rate of return

* Haven't even started harvest off the various pepper plants growing in the back gardens. They are a week or more behind the ones in the front gardens...due to a 25' elevation drop. Wild how....just that little bit of difference...creates a totally separate micro climate.

The back garden pepper plants...look like they will out produce the front. None of them are in containers...so this..must also be factored in. The front yard container plants...though faster...are not as big or as productive.

** Weather is still cooperating. The warmer nights are a big deal here. You can see right away....by looking at the plants...when warm nights are lingering...a major difference. If I had consistent warm nights...my gardens would be way more productive. Rarely do I get to keep them in 4th gear for very long....usually more like 3rd gear.

living in a 3rd gear gardening world....can't ever be a supercharger

Summer Progression

Summer Progression

Knocking down volunteer Giant Sunflowers to gain sunlight for tomato production

Many tomato pits planted....I'll show others as they progress. These are in a semi productive location...protected from wind..but don't get the most amount of sunlight. They should do ok...they've been staked or caged or both..with a good Sept...should overgrow

Italian Seed

Italian Seed

I'm showing the Corno Di Toro Giallo ( decided they are the Giallo and not the Rosso..well not really...can't tell yet if they finish yellow or red)....Italian heirloom..sweet peppers

These are the plants in 3 gal smart pots...at a 25' higher elevation

..and these 5 are in a bed...at a 25' lower elevation

The lower elevation bed planted Corno are a good deal larger...putting out more fruit...but the fruit has yet to start ripening. The plants are still getting bigger...and still putting out flowers

The higher elevation smart pot planted Corno are smaller...less fruit..but the fruit is ripening. They are essentially done growing.

* This is pretty much the case with all the pepper plants...not just the Corno

** Perhaps if I used bigger smart pots....the results would be different. I should have used 7 gal pots

*** To rehash: all these plants were started from seed indoors...then into a cold frame. They did not leave the comforts of the cold frame until mid June. If I can get enough warm nights through September...I should have a bumper crop of peppers...collectively

Bush Beans

Bush Beans

Growing a single row of a heavy producing bush bean (Blue Lake)

^ 1st harvest..as they are starting to get big and productive. No shortage of these

* weather has been totally bizarre this summer season. The beginning of Sept feels like late July. We have been having T-cell build up every day for the last 2 wks...with more of the same...predicted for next week. T-cells with a monsoonal flow..keeps it hot and muggy..even the nights are warm. Been getting solid rains

So...my shit is rolling like a bastard. Can walk around the various gardens...on any given day....and harvest food to crunch on

** Finding time to train in the hills about every day. The training is running parallel to the garden status....rolling full tilt..reckless abandon. Trained 18 of the last 23 days...mostly running 4 or 5 consecutive days..then 1 day off.

I just harvested and am now drying a lot of yellow cayenne peppers I grew in a container on the front deck this summer. Last evening I used one fresh one in a batch of beans and it was an eye-opener to say the least. And we eat a lot of hot peppers around here... I have a mix going in the frig at all times of varieties of hot peppers in vinegar and home-grown herbs. Habaneros to cayennes, jalapenos, some little sweet red peppers also.

Hot peppers are good for the soul, digestion, circulation and mood, perhaps more!

BTW, nice shoes Jerico!

Right on man. I keep a crock pot of pinto beans going at all times...the foundation of my..main source of nutrition. Been harvesting cayenne, purple jalapeno...and some chinese 5 color peppers.

Experimenting with different peppers in my beans...and have found the Chinese 5 color to be the most spicy. Cut up 4 or 5 and cook them with the beans....awesome flavor..great heat..no need for added hot sauce to my burritos

We took a beating last week...hail storm...days and days of T-cells and rain. My stuff is in recovery mode...but I should pull a really decent tomato harvest. Thank goodness the plants are staked and tied..probably saved them from destruction

* kind of documented the storms and their punishment in my other thread...

Quick morning Grab

Quick morning Grab

You'll see evidence of hail damage...in some of the fruits

Dry now...nights have dropped back into 50-55 degree range...days 80's and 90's...

gardens took a pounding from those days of T-Cells...I'll be seeing the damage for the rest of the season. This is the time of the year..where I'm worn down by all the gardening...stressing tomatoes..attempting to concentrate...finish strong. Weather is all important NOW

* October = Garlic planting
