The Yogurt Cup SOG

Right now I have a pretty good clone stream of white rhino, that are feeding a larger SOG, so starting with that is a pretty good bet, but I'll probably play around a bit and see what works and what doesn't in such a small footprint.
I have a C99 that I've just sprouted, If I clone and throw straight into 12/12 we'll see if they stay under 15" ...
Plan is to start this with 8x23W 2700k CFLs ... some or all of them could be upgraded to 42W if needed. Cab is 28"w x 19l x 19h ... and will fit 45 yogurt cups ... 9 weeks @ 5 plants per

When the next yogurt cup challenge gets going, they'll be the first plants in. They'll likely be disproportionate yielding (on high side - good!) as they'll have the more light/space for most of their grow than once the cab is full.
Looks like a fun little project 
I'd highly recommend going 50/50 with 27k and 65k bulbs. I did a few 27k only flowering runs and the buds came out way too whispy. I found that having the same amount of 65k as 27k really helped to tighten up the buds and reduce stretch in the early stages of flowering.
Would be interesting to see how yield is. What medium will you be using? Coco would kick ass for such a small pot size.

I'm kinda a keep it simple guy I use a soil mix that's 8/3/1 Soil/Perlite/Vermiculite and use Jack's Classic ferts ... I'm a touch worried about keeping them hydrated with so little soil, may have to resort to a saucer or pan for the cups with a 1/4" of water in it as they grow.
I'll play with coco at some point, but this is just KISS for me, as my tap water plus a couple drops of pH down and the nutes are awesome for pH ... my tap is completely neutral at 7 out of the faucet. Coco needs different nutes and more pH playing.

Any idea how well your recommended 50/50 split of 2700k & 6500k fair when compared to say, a straight 4000k grow? I'm wondering if the "middle of the road" is what they are really after, or if they genuinely do prefer a mix of 2700 and 6500
Perhaps with a reasonably high ratio of vermiculite in your mix and it will retain enough water to not be a problem? either a higher ratio in the mix, or a layer of pure verm in the bottom of the pots and then your normal mix ontop.

Yeah, I could up the vermiculite and cut the perlite a touch as an experiment ... that might be the ticket for the small volume.
With respect to lighting, I think in flower they need more of the red spectrum down to the 2.7k level, 4.0k might give enough daylight characteristics to get the benefit of the 6.5k ... don't know. My bigger SOG is a split of 2.7 and 6.5k ... but that was function of the bulbs i had on hand, I probably would have done straight 2.7k if I had them. Certainly they're growing just fine with the mix.
Conventional wisdom says straight 2.7k, but advances are made outside of convention and certainly there are folks running the split spectrum suggested.
Yeah the only reason I'm suggesting using a mixed spectrum is because I was really dissatisfied with just 27k. Airy light buds that you could see through - not what I want weed to be like.
I've not used 40k lighting, but I do know that plants like the 27k and 65k for different reasons, and mixing them should (key word!) provide better results than just 40k.

So here's what it looks like after a little work
Need a couple more Y adapters to get a couple more bulbs in, but otherwise, she's ready to rock and roll!
Oh and here's a picture of my best friend for working with tupperware (and plastic in general)
Need to go buy a timer, then I think I'll fire her up tomorrow!!!

I bottom feed flood and drain ala DrBudGreengenes ... gotta put enough perlite in the mix for that to work, never done this small, just figured it'd be fun to try ... of course you can ask me about how much fun it is to water 45 plants that way every day (other day) in 9 weeks ... I may change my answer ... or my definition of fun anyway

Just sayin' ... no light trap on intake here and I do cover it with a tarp/blanket of sorts in actual use, but it's pretty funny how much light a tupperware box will give off with 200W of CFL inside

Yeah, I put some light traps on the intakes and fan ... I have to cover the cab with a tarp to keep the light down! LOL ... I've got 15 plants in her now. I'll take some pics and post tomorrow ... another 5 due to go in in a few days.
Yup.
Prime it in flat black first. Two coats just to be sure. Then add the flat white over top of that in a few layers. The black paint undercoating will help greatly in stopping that "glowing effect".
The light is two-ways of course. The black undecoating also aids in making sure the box is light tight from light originating on the outside.
