well I have my first dwc setup and they were doing soo bad ass and now the roots are turning brown and they arent perking up anymore... what is the deal? I added h202 at 4ml/gal 29% h202, still no improvement , I ordered hygrozyme last night so hopefully that will help? What could be the cause ? I have water temps at 67 and use GH grow, micro and bloom with cal/mg and superthrive. I added great white for 5 days once , maybe that was it?

I Just read that great white can raise your ph if not used properly. have your roots still got room to grow? What size pot/container and air pump are you using? What's your ph & ppm ?

I believe the h202 will kill any beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae from the great white. maybe not a good mix.

Probably is cyano, brown / yellow slime
Search for ewc tea (benefical bactteria grow) or use clorine (yep clorine, will keep bacteria out) in small amounts (1ppm)
Peroxide will not work...I grow for years without problems but once slime got you, there is not way back and really sucks...I am dealing with it right now, I will start with the clorine aproach, if that does not work, i will restart everything and will make a tea culture.

I got the same droopy leave thing going on also.
I use GH products also.
My PH out of my well is low this time of yr and I think it is whats to blame.
Usually 5.8 out of well.
Now; 4.0....How much PH up, can one add? I add about 300ml a day.
Never have an issue with it during winter, spring and the beginning of summer.

PH down like that is Root Rot, not doubt.

I been using clorine for 2 days now, and plants are ok and no sign of slime anymore. 10 drops for a 5 gallon DWC a day. On the long run is better to do a benefical bacteria culture I guess

I used to get crop failures until I used chlorine and bigger air pumps. Check my signature for help. Lots of details!

you are more than likely over watering give them 1 flood a day, and see how they look in a few days, if you have damaged your'e roots beyond repair, then expect a poor harvest, what stage are they?

There is no way to over water DWC plants because the roots are always submerged in water at all times.

They are in veg stage , the roots have new growth with white in it now.It may have been dirty air stones in my buckets! I took them all out set them in a bucket with h202 and water mix and they fizzed beyond belief!! So that makes me think the stones has bad shit in them that made that happen??

I'm running a DWC setup right now. How much brown are you supposed to have on the roots? I'm assuming they shouldn't all stay bright white forever? At first in my DWC setup I didn't refill water as I needed so probably...5" of roots were exposed below the bottom of the mesh pots. I kind of assumed that's why they went slightly brownish white, like a dirty white. As far as chlorine, do you run it in every res every time, or only when you have problems you bring it in? Good to know that h202 in dwc isn't good also, saved me some headaches there I'm sure.

Your roots are supposed to look like this:

This piece is taken from my RDWC Guide in my signature:

"Chlorine as a preventative measure
I won’t tease you guys with my knowledge on Chlorine and everyone who doesn’t use live nutrients or supplements in hydroponics, I would advise you to keep a residual level of 0.50 PPM Chlorine at all times as a preventative measure against plant pathogens and future root problems. Always remember that too much Chlorine will kill your plants and you never want to put more than 1.0 PPM of Chlorine for large healthy plants. Cuttings and smaller plants are more sensitive to Chlorine and you will want to keep only 0.50 PPM of Chlorine so that you don’t risk killing them. My dropper gives 22 drops / 1 mL of liquid. Before giving Chlorine to small reservoirs you will want to see how many drops per mL your dropper gives so you give a safe amount of Chlorine. My dropper gives a 0.50 PPM of Chlorine at the rate of 1 drop of Clorox Bleach / 2 Gal. To give 0.50 PPM of Chlorine using Clorox Bleach, the equation is 1 mL of Clorox Bleach / 44 Gallons. Always take into account if your tap already has Chlorine in it and adjust your equation. Remember in a well aerated solution, Chlorine naturally disappears in 3-4 days so add in your Chlorine every 4 days as a preventative measure against future root and pathogen problems. Add this to your normal schedule and you will see how hard it is to get root problems again."

Lots more of information in my threads.

What about using hygrozyme?

I tried it once before I used chlorine. Used the hygrozyme after i got root problems and all my plants died. I hear if you use hygrozyme, it is best to use before you get root problems. Chlorine is your friend and cost you pennies.
