1500 watt LED Soil Garden--18 Plants--House & Garden

I'm going to start this thread with a disclaimer: I've already been posting this grow in an older thread, but when i tried to direct people to the thread to check out my current project they had a hard time finding it. So I've decided to move everything over to this dedicated thread.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone, i’m finally back to do my second journal. Theres a link in my sig for anyone who hasnt seen my first journal, where i did a side by side with the strain White Berry Kush under a 1000 watt Hortilux HPS bulb on one side and a Black Dog LED Platinum XL Universal on the other.

I started this grow a while back and now i have time to post it so i will put up a few posts per week. I also had to change some stuff in the room to compensate for summer temps, like rerunning ventilation which allowed me to seal the room. I also added a portable A/C that exhausts outside of the room which has really helped me keep my temps lower in the middle of a crazy hot summer with two high powered lights. In the past, i’ve had to shut down my grow in the summer because my HPS got too hot but with the addition of a 1300 watt LG portable A/C i’ve been able to run a 4’x8’ garden in flower non stop this summer.

This time around i’m growing with my buddy who has a little more experience than me. He helped buy a second Platinum XL Universal and we’re doing a regular grow, not side by side, with two Platinum LEDs over 18 plants in soil (i’ve always done hydro but royally screwed up my pH last time and was ready to try something different.) Most of this garden is new to me so i’m excited about journalling it on here.

Here are the stats
-Soil
-2X Black Dog LED platinum XL Universal series lights
-House and Garden Van de Swaan nutrients
-18 plants in 3 gallon Smart Pots (for anyone who doesn’t know about smart pots, we got one with our new light and theyre sweet! theyre made of fabric so the roots can grow through and water can run out)
-Strains: White Berry Kush, Sensei Star, and Skywalker OG Kush (or so we were told)

Here are some pictures from right after flipping into bloom. Everyone started from clone and was in veg for 2 months, topped a few times as needed up to 10 days before flipping. When we flipped them they were all about 18 inches tall.

Check back for more soon.

Will be watching with interest as very simliar to my grow when it starts lol.
Good luck with it mate.

These pics are from week 2 of flower. I’m using House and Garden nutrients and following the 8 week flower schedule. It is really amazing that i can run 2 of the Platinum XL-U lights over 750w each in an almost triple digit heat wave... temps in the garden are solid at 76-78 degrees.

Plants are looking really healthy and there are already nice flower sites showing. I’m really happy with how things are progressing, tho wishing i had flipped about 10 days ago, these girls are big...

On a side note the guy that provided the plants was impressed with how the genetics he was used to growing looked under the Black Dog LED lights. He said he was surprised at how dark green the leaves were in comparison. After showing him the yield from the last grow we both agreed this one was looking even more promising. Time will tell...

Here are week 3 and week 4 together. There was a real explosive amount of growth in this time and i considered pulling a couple plants out to give the rest some more room. In the end i decided to let it ride and just prune a little more aggressively.

I was out of town and my buddy was in charge. He watered both weeks, and its worth saying that he didn’t pH the water the first time and then realized the tap water was at 8.3 after noticing a a little leaf curl. We did a mini flush with 6.8 pH water and all leaf curl stopped in a few days- but put us a few days behind on feeding. We agreed to pH everything after this and adjust it. I was eventually able to catch up on feeding without burning.

During week 3 we added 4 Exhale bags with mycellium to the room for CO2 generation, you can see them hanging between the lights in some of the pics. I wish i had a co2 meter to know what they are putting... Dare to dream :)

Week 3:

Week 4, just watered this week (double checked pH). The plants were getting tall quickly at this point, and a bunch of flower sites have really taken off as you can see in the pics. Don’t know about the rest of you but this progress is making me pretty excited for the next few months! If you compare these pics to the ones from last week you can really see the growth spurt they had. I read into it a little and it turns out soil pH affects the amount of nutrients dissolved into the soil, so a bad pH makes it so that plants can’t absorb as much as they need. I had no idea.

Some close ups, i like how green the first picture is, and how fuzzy the buds are:

A little young to tell, but looks like Sensi star:

Here is week 5. Sunday of this week we watered with the week 3 nutrients again to help the plants fully recover from the pH episode. Later in the week we installed a light rail, which i’m pretty stoked about. It’s a 6 foot LightRail 3.5, which we kept in 2 3 ft pieces to get the coverage we wanted. We added an extra trolley and used a push rod from the motor to move it back and forth. The lights are about 4 ft apart from center and each moves 9 inches either way from their center points. I’m pretty happy with the setup so far. The plants seemed to perk up, which makes me think we’re getting more intense light to all parts of the canopy. After a little discussion we have agreed we should see easily over 2 pounds from this harvest.

Here are some pics from later in the week, when we watered with week 4 nutrients again in 15 total gallons of solution.

Good view of the light rail setup in action:

Plants all filling out, responding well to the moving platinums:

From the day we gave them nutes, i’m so happy with how this garden is developing. Much fuller than my last go around, and much much cooler to run. It’s almost silly how quickly the buds are getting fat. Also makes me appreciate the importance of pH and even light coverage. No doubt we will see 2 lbs from this round!

We got some nice pics this week, some good cola shots and a really nice one that shows how we keep the understory trimmed up. I’m learning to appreciate soil, these plants have some nice solid root systems that are making for some dense canopies. I can tell they are drinking a lot more as the buds develop.

Later in the same week, playing catch up a bit so went with a 4 day cycle with plenty of water. Started out by watering with nematodes for fungus gnats (three cans, one sponge per can) then four gals regular strength H&G week 7. First pic is the nematode packaging.

Some of the Skywalker:

This week the plants were a dryer than expected for this point in the cycle, so we watered early in the week (with just pH’d water), then 2 days later went ahead with the wek 8 nutrients in 4 gallons, and 2 days after that watered with 3 more buckets pH’d water. We also put some stakes in because the buds are starting to weigh the branches down. The first set of pics are from the day they were a little dry, but you can see it’s bud city in there. Everything is so sticky that even though we were pretty careful putting the stakes in we were both covered in resin.

Quickly approaching the end here in my first full LED run, and i have to say it’s been less maintenance than previous grows since i didn’t have to worry so much about ambient temps and water stress. Started flushing straight from the hose this week, did about 6 gallons of water per 3 gallon pot the first day and then 4 gallons per pot 3 days later, and then three days later again we watered the normal amount.

You can see how heavy some of the colas are here, bending some branches:

Good pic of stigma development:

Pic of our high-tech flushing technique:

Here are some pics from the second day of flushing, 4 gals per pot. Buds are really starting to fill in here and everything is getting crazy sticky, good stuff.

Just look at those crazy long stigmas:

A couple canopy shots in different light:

A few days after these pics were taken the flushing was really starting to show in some of the upper leaves. Everything is so full and sticky and skunky, my only complaint/concern is that i’d like to see more amber in the stigma at this point, but we have some wiggle room for sure so im not too worried yet.

Still flushing here. The day these first set of pics was taken we didnt actually water because everything was still pretty wet from the previous flush. We watered 2 days after this from the hose, but it wasn’t much. These are some of the best looking buds ive ever seen in my own garden. Everything is full and sticky but what really gets me is all the colors coming out from the flushing. And everything is looking pretty text book as far as the leaves yellowing and buds pumping up. Im very, very happy with this crop.

I think these next two pics are a good example of how well the plants are responding to flushing:

These pics are from 5 days after the last ones, and on this day we went ahead and watered the normal amount even though they weren’t totally dried out. We wanted the plants moist and non stressed for any last filling out and bud development. Im gonna dump some pics on you here because we got some really nice looking stuff.
