Yo cap what about using 600w gavita(vert) and the 315 stacked. That would make for a perfect spectrum and the best of both worlds.

Even if you stocked up now with the big cmh discount you're looking at ~$1500 replacement for that many bulbs.
I thought that the DE bulbs could not be hung vertically?
Hey wazzup, what do you recommend in a 20 x 20 for flowering, if I am limited to 70 amps.
I would not be able to tell you what happens vertical without reflector, other than you would have a lot of very hot lamps hanging in your way
Look at it this way: in a 10x20 mammoth tent I would need about 38 - 40 CDM 315 fixtures, or 10 Pro 1000 fixtures. The pro 1000 is still more efficient than the CDM (about 10% if you would use the same efficiency reflector). But also think about relamping costs.
The lamps will be above my head. The room has 12' ceilings and plants will be up off the ground. They will start at 40", grow 6-8'. I can't have a fixture directly above the plant sites for this reason. This is what I like about the cycloptics reflector is it blasts light to the sides.
See my attached proposed layout. I have been overthinking the shit out of this.
can the gavita pro 600 be mounted in the vertical position? Does gavita sell the remote ballast and socket set alone, without the reflector?

This is looking really appealing. Would put me at 12kw which is just right. Would give me good intensity where it is needed if I use the 600 on top of the 315 and the 315 on bottom would light the lowers nicely (in theory).
Then the 12 cycloptics reflectors overhead with the 315's... I think we are on to something here.
I am not concerned with spending 2k on bulbs every year, but according to the guys at cycloptics, the bulbs do not have to be replaced as often. They have been running the same bulbs for 4 years at one research facility with negligible deterioration (supposedly).

Cool, me too! I picked up several packs initially and made some F2s when I first flowered some of them out, so I have quite a few set aside. These girls were clones from a mom that I've been keeping since the first run. It's kind of a pain in the ass to keep a mom from these since they tend to autoflower when rootbound, but the cuts eventually will root.
Try some out, if you like pot that doesn't lobotomize you, I think that you will like it.

The 600W 400V EL lamps are single ended and can be used verical. The double ended 1000W can't and would be really not handy with a bracket on one side of the lamp.
Losing 5-7% per year I would relamp CMH every year. I have seen research facilities changing MH lamps every 12 months, losing 30% of light over that time, so that is hardly a standard

I am looking at the study right now. The numbers look great.
30% increase in yield, 43% reduction in energy, 36% faster growth rate (shaved 47 days off total cycle time start of veg to harvest)
Average umol at canopy: 700
@tenthirty, do you have any pics of that bubba you were talking about for comparison? Dropping this much dough on lights in like buying a new car, I want to make 100% sure I am getting the right model.

i wouldn't say that pre98 is a low yielder. several of my friends ran her and they could get g/w from her. she takes a while to dial in, but when you give it to her just right she will put out.
i just got 3 x 400w CMH myself, bulbs are GE constant color chromafit CMH400/U/830/R 93295 looking forward to doing this mixed spectrum grow. using two of them in flower with 2 x 268w LED panels from evergrow. the bulb is supposed to put out different colors when burned in different positions, 3000k horizontal, 3600k vertical. I know kelvin doesn't mean much when chlorophyll reacts to nanometers of wavelength, but i hope the horizontal burn position will get a little more in the red spectra.

Compared to alien dawg, about 20% less so far, but I'm on my first mono crop of the 98 now, so well see in a couple of runs.
Hopefully we'll be able to make bubba budsicles.

Bro I sent an email to sunlight supply and anthony replied saying that ballast will work with the phillips retro whites, so i bought 4 but i havent tested them with the lamps, but as far the email says it work
