Blood-like stains in my buds!

Hi there :tiphat:

I've come across this when harvesting my plants. After drying them I was about to trim one of them when I was surprised to find deep red colouring in some of the lowest and fluffiest buds of one of the plants.

See for yourself (click to enlarge).

I find it strange that it only happened to one of the plants. At the end of the day they were all cutlings from the same Critical Mass mother treated in the same way.

Can you guys shed some light on this little oddity please?

Cheers!

u sure u didn't cut yourself and blood landing on a calyx? lol it looks really to red to be natural ..

one time I cut myself in the grow room. and had a nug that was almost red.. it stumped me for a while.. but then I took it .. and rinsed it off.. and the blood was gone.. I still tossed the nug either way but ya I cut myself while pruning and thinning out.

it´s just that time of month for your plant, maybe the others are pregnant and thats why they didnt bleed? :blowbubbles:

yea i just woke up and found a joint in the ashtray, will be a fun day

Thanks BasementGrower but I'm pretty sure. In fact this 'reddening' happened not to one but to three or four of the lowest nuggets, all of them in the same way, affecting only one or two of their lowest calixes :noway:

I'm so at a loss that I'm ready to take that as an actual possibility

probably a little "sap" from the stems

Well... I think we can rule that out. Actually some other plants of the same crop had some sap and it looks completely different. In this case there is nothing at all on the buds, it is just that the color is red for some reason.

The thing is that I already had eleven clones of it, all of them more or less under the same conditions, and only one showed a couple of nuggets with this colour (?)

Thanks for your comments guys. Cheers!

over production of anthocyanin, especially if you flushed for a while and all the chloraphyl started to break down.

Fungus, disease? Is it possible some kind of paint, rust, etc made contact with the bud?

It looked healthy enough tbh. I'm aware the pic may give the impression of some kind of stain (I'd say it looks more like a red felt-tip pen ) but the colour 'comes within'. There was no substance whatsoever on the calixes.

What's the strain yer running? Might have something to do with this 'Blood Sap'.

Critical Mass

I've had buds with purple calyxes bleed purple goo/sap before.

Sorry, no sap here. I did find a considerable amount of honey-like sap drops in and on some other buds -specially in the bigger buds- so it may be related in some way but not this one -this was one of the fluffiest. As I said before there was nothing actually on the calixes. No sap, no rust, no paint, no blood :nono:

That's an interesting possibility. I flushed 8-10 days before harvesting, can't remember exactly. I'm wondering if the fact that those were the lowest buds of the plant may have played a role. Maybe the lack of light increased the production of anthocyanin and decreased that of chloraphyl?

Thanks a lot everyone for your comments. Cheers!
