Whats the most effective light schedule for inducing flowering?

I'm curious to see if anyone has tried different ways of inducing flowering with various different light schedules.

I think the general consensus is to make plants flower indoors, just turn the lights to 12/12. But, there are some people who say that 24 or 48 hours of darkness helps them to flower faster than just 12/12.

Then, on the other hand, some people say "my power has been off for ____ hours/days, is this going to make my plants flower?" and usually people say "don't worry about it they will be fine, just keep them on the same schedule they were on before the outage" or something to that effect.

So it seems like there is some conflicting information on this topic. I've always just flipped them to 12/12 and never thought much about it, until now. I don't think 24 or 48 hours of darkness would do anything but delay, but I could be wrong, now 24 to 48 hours of darkness at the end of flowering is a different story.

So what about longer dark periods for the first week of flowering, like maybe 10/14. I would think that might be more effective than just regular 12/12. I would think the solid dark period at the beginning of flowering would just confuse the plant, whereas 10/14 would send a solid message. Then after the first week of 10/14 go to 11/13 on the second week and 12/12 on the third week.

Has anyone tried this, what were the results using the same strain?

Whats up sam, I know i'm new here but i may be able to help. My last grow i had 12 gdp plants in a two room flower tent. When i flipped i let one side get 48 hours of darkness and the other i went straight to 12/12. The plants that had the dark period were stunted for 3-4 days but then dramatically stretched and got taller then the others that were straight 12/12. At the end the plants that had the dark period were a couple inches taller then the others but the yeild was nearly identical just a size variation in buds because of the sudden stretch i think. Hope this helps

I think 12/12 works because it's more than enough. My outdoor stuff starts flowering at about 11 hours of darkness.

Very interesting, what about finishing times, did either one finish earlier?

I've heard of someone on here that says after the first 2 weeks of 12/12 he goes to 13/11 and says his plants flower harder. It was a long time ago and I don't know specifically what he means by flowering harder. Maybe the progression is faster.

If you think about how they flower it makes sense. Chemicals build up and when they reach a certain point flowering begins. Light destroys these chemicals. 12/12 allows enough of the chemicals to remain to cause flowering to continue. More light causes more growth, but too much can cause flowering to stop.

No lights for 24 or 48 hours gives the flowering chemicals a chance to build up and commence flowering quicker.

Does that make sense?

Maybe more is not better in this circumstance. It just get destroyed by the light, anyway.
