newbie help with ventilation

Put ducting in the passive intake holes.Either use 45° bends as a light trap,or paint the inside of the ducting black.

Passive intakes need two be twice the area of your exhaust.

Example...

A 4" exhaust has an area of 12.6" square inches so you'd want either two passive intakes that each have an area if 12.6" square inches or one passive intake that has an area of 25.1 square inches.

You did not read Ventilation 101...otherwise you wouldn't be asking.

GO READ VENTILATION 101!

OK..
Vent 101 say the intake needs to be 2× the exhaust area.(not sure what they mean).
The other thread gives me this equation : Extractor size – 1000 CFM (1700 m3/hr)
Estimated extractor power with carbon filter –1000 x 0.75 = 750
Reduction to ensure negative pressure = 750 x 0.85 = Intake Fan Size 638 CFM (1084 m3/hr)..

Actually read it then, don't just scroll through it...it's all there in the graphs/charts dude...It's right there under intake sizing/Areas for common duct/pipe sizing...

Don't be lazy and not do your own homework.Lazy growers that don't do their homework don't get good grows/results...so don't be lazy,do your homework.

Thanks jnugg
I did read both thread. I will go over it again since is a lot of info..
But I think I understand now. I'm using a homebox tent. For passive intake u say just use 4" duct on both bottom intake holes with a 45° angle
or 6" duct..
Thanks for your time ..

400/430w hps dangling bare. 4in vortex type fan/filter hung above, w a muffin fan directly under the bulb. Arrange diesels in a circle around bulb and I don't think you can get much better sour. I'm belive 600w will overwork the space, diminishing returns homie. H peacin

I've used 3 90 degree turns in an "s" pattern painted flat black inside. And of course it's best to point the end away from a light source, like at the floor. Good luck. -granger

Always better to use 45° bends or less as 90° bends create a lot of unwanted/unneeded pressure losses which further restrict airflow.

tent grows

tent grows

tent grows are always the most interesting. people pack all the equipment of a 10'x10' room into the smallest of boxes.

i do like that homework comment brah, you get out what you put into growing.
:dueling:

IMO, if you don't want to do any homework at all, youtube makes it relatively easy to see others grows. and by doing that you can better design what you think you want. again, IMO these forums come with particular problems that you're trying to figure out. how to hang this or that is super general. everybody is going to tell you something different. again, the good thing about youtube is that the person making the video typically talks and kind of tells you what they're thinking.

to be completely silent, good luck. all equipment has a buzz or a hmm even the movement of air makes noise. my post number is not high, so i've been doing a lot of reading around this site. one of the cool things again if you read, is that people have done very similar if not identical grows using those tent dimensions. not being a smart @$$ just saying.

again, IMO though i'd get a stronger exhaust than you actually need, because who wants to always have to buy a bigger exhaust every time you upgrade? cuz, i know you're going to upgrade. you know you're going to upgrade.. might as well get a bigger exhaust to handle all that now.
my rant is over hahaha

Drizz,
Didn't you say that you have an adjustable ballast? You can run it at 400w. That's plenty of light for your sq footage. It will produce less heat than 600w. Good luck. -granger
