Day 63 of 12/12

Day 63 of 12/12

So this is supposed to be a "flying-saucer-doughnut, with a creemy worm-hole at it's center" SCROG!

I'm staying tuned for the lift-off.

Hahaha! Don't know about a creamy worm-hole centre to be honest shokdee - more like a constipated poo-hole right now.

I've tried to beat my rogue canopy back into submission as best I could and it appears I have won the battle but alas, it has won the war. My cabinet is officially OVERGROWN.

Canopy of Chaos

I'm a bit bummed at how my grow is turning out now to be honest.

I've been really slack with updates to this thread the past couple of weeks; partly because I've been busy but also partly because my pretty buds just aren't exploding like I hoped they would and like they do in the other forum threads and on TV.

This is supposed to be a 9-11 week strain and it is already at the end of nine weeks flowering now and none of these plants look near finished yet - even the earlier ripening pheno (left side of cabinet)

It really seems like they have just stalled and are fizzing out just at the crucial moment when I need them to fatten up and embrace their obesity!
I stopped the PK-13 a couple of weeks ago but if ripening has been delayed than maybe I should have left it in there a bit longer?

Bit of a Mess

It can only be one of THREE possibilities why my grow is just not bulking up now as I hoped it would be:

1. Uncontrolled environment - temps/humidity pretty much at the mercy of whatever is invading my garage.

2. Canopy got out of control and so tops grew too close to light and plants suffering light/heat stress as a result.

3. Something else entirely.

My money is on the light being too close to the plants and so their ripening is delayed due to heat/light stress.
I hope I'm just experiencing delayed budding which a couple of extra weeks flower time will sort out rather than a fizzling crop.

Will try to get the USB-scope out to check trichomes tonight to see if any of the plants are even close to harvesting yet but it certainly doesn't look like it.

I was hoping to get one more quick grow in before moving house but it doesn't look like I will have time for that now.

Thanks for stopping by anyway folks. Sorry I haven't got much to show you today.

:dunno: I do not have the skill to read your set-up or condition of your plants. I'm sure someone will come along with some good advice.

What I can do is look at some of the words you use, "mess", "chaos" and so on.

I suspect that you are pre-occupied with your move. Maybe some kind of frustration is creeping into your grow. All I can say is send more love to yourself and just go with the flow. Do not stress the small stuff. Focus on what is important to you in your real-life. Good luck.

It can only be possibilities:
1. Uncontrolled environment
2. Out of control

...looks like fungus gnat issues. the "crinkling" look of the leaves, coupled with the leaf discoloration...is EXACTLY what im dealing with, with my GGG-classic twist. they look like identical problems, but also looks like your lights might be getting the canopy pretty warm.

im not 100% that they are gnats, but if you see little flying black dots, when you water. or gnats flying around the cabinet at all. the look, is also indicative of an array of other pests as well. might be worth looking into IMHO.

Hey Glob! I got a couple questions for ya. I notice you're using an 'adjustawing' hood .. how do you like it? I've been thinking about getting one.. also, you're using the light diffuser thingamabobbie.. how do you like that thing? Does it do what they say it does? Looks like you're getting your plants wicked close to the bulb.. does that thing allow you to do that without scorching your stuff? I like the principal of your grow.. too bad it got our of hand on ya.. lol.. I'm going to try a 14 gallon tote with 4 plants (twilight, strain stays small and bushy) and do a trellis arrangement over them.. I think what happened on yours was you quit pulling them down to the tressel too soon.. anyway.. good luck on salvaging your runaway there..

G'day Mr Dee and you are completely spot on my friend. There has been a lot of flux and stuff in the mix of late and to be honest once my grow started getting out of control I did pull away from it somewhat.

I wanted to come back and finish up this thread though as I have started other grows in the past and they have also followed a similar pattern of decline towards the end of flowering and shamefully I did not bother to complete the grow thread then either.
I'll post up a few picks and a summary of the harvest tonight.

The thing that has become apparent to me at this point is that unless I ensure that my growing environment is serving up best possible conditions for my plants, then an box made of MDF and a love of the plants alone won't get me to a great harvest.

But I digress. I'm actually feeling bloody stoked and excited as the family unit shall be moving to a new house shortly.
To make things even better, there is a great little 10' x 6' growspace in the new garage for me to use :D

Oh yes sweet, environment of joyous conditioning, one day you shall be mine...

Hi there whitecloud and I reckon you hit two nails on the head there mate.

I had one of the yellow sticky traps hanging and I did get a couple of what looked like fungus gnats and then suddenly the population just ramped up in hurry.
I didn't have anything in the cupboard to combat them so they did a bit of a Genghis Khan through my plants, running unchecked.

No doubt their presence contributed towards a disappointing harvest.

That light/heat issue was also a factor too I'm sure.
After I let the canopy get away from me, the plants were right up in the light at an unhealthy range which definitely wouldn't have helped matters.

In the end I also had to pull the plug early on the grow as there is a house move on the horizon.

Anyways, you grow and you learn. I'll chalk this one up as a learning experience and move on :D

I just wish there was a bit more of substance in this harvest to last me through to the next one. Here is a shot of the final harvest drying on day one. (This is actually only 4 of the 5 plants as I had chopped one plant earlier for something to smoke...)

G'day there Mr Krebs :tiphat:

Yes I was really happy with the Adjusta-wing.

It is really light, great quality reflective surface, design is great at getting light out to the far edges (although there is a little bit of a warm spot under the far tip of each wing but nothing crazy).

That heat/light spreader thing worked as promised as well. Definitely kept the heat away from the canopy directly under the bulb while still allowing light through.

So if you DID have control over your canopy then you could definitely get the light closer to the plants if you attached the light/heat spreader. Would definitely recommend it.

I'm going to be saying farewell to this cabinet and setting up a new growspace shortly and try my hand at a vertical grow using a few PPK's.

See you around and good luck on your grow Maynard!

ooohhhh!!! beautiful girls... and very resistant

Thank you for the kind words mixfuman and apologies for the abrupt ending to this thread.

They were indeed beautiful. It would have been nice to see them flourish in better conditions.

At least it gives me something to work towards for my next grow :)

Peace.

I think this is my first ICM post so. . .
Re the cold air, I was growing in a garage last winter and found that I bringing air in above the lights then extracting lower down forces the cold air to come then down over/around the lights takes the chill off before it gets to the girls. Just reverse it when ambient temp picks up.
btw Thanks for taking the time do a (very well written) diary, as I'm going SCROG next time around I'm finding it really useful.

Hi there TDQ and thanks for using your first post to help others and say nice things to strangers. You're off to a great start on ICMag with that attitude.

Your idea certainly would have helped temps. Unfortunately my garage was seriously cold and draughty. A lesson in getting my environment right before anything else. Next grow maybe?

Anyway, welcome mate and hope you enjoy your stay. I'm still a novice grower and have made lots of mistakes along the way but i'm happy to share what scrogging tips I might have.

Peace.

Cheers DH! :tiphat:

Must be fate you dropping in like this as I plan to join you and the other freaks in the magical world of PPK when I do my next grow.

Unfortunately, it is going to take a while to weatherproof and insulate the rat-urine- smelling 1960s garage that I am going to use for my new growspace.

So maybe see you on the PPK thread in a couple of months :D

I feel the need... the need for trees!!
