China led experience

Okay finally got the new fans installed in noah 4. Temps are down quite a bit..unit is now warm to touch instead of scorching. While opening unit noticed heatsinks over integrated leds were by far the hottest. Makes me wonder if that will be an issue with integrated tech. This unit could probably do better with four fans and/or better sinks to cool all these leds.

Also installed magnetic filters on outside of case over fans to keep dust out and things from getting sucked through fan. Used the 140 fan version over the 120 and fits perfectly. Good addition for any led case...

Didn't want to be a guinea pig for new tech but design interested me. The 3 chip 3w spectra outperformed quite a few leds at the time so I'm hoping the way this unit stacks leds will have a similar positive effect.

Probably be last post on this thread. I'll try and start something in the grow journals for anyone interested. will be starting from scratch with new plants to see exactly what this unit can do.

Peace out

Not sure where to put this so ill drop it here
Dual switch and noah 4 killawatt numbers
Dual switch was $115 after cree upgrade was $170....$35 for new al base and $1.35 per cree led.......96.5w
Noah 4 was $311..... 382w
Shipping was $160
Total....$641
Watts....487.5
$/w including shipping......$1.33

very nice & props for doing some personal work on her . . .

I saw a pro video saying optimal temps for growing under LED lights was 85 degrees . . . for my winter grows, even with an added heater, I doubt I can reach much above 75 in my grow room . . . lol! but still from the results I see, they are worth it . . . .

Temps where I'm at are 90 plus so I need to keep things near ambient as much as possible ..lol.
Sounds like you could run a bare bulb hps or cmh in winter Lucky! Or this rig I just got before the new fans was pumping out some heat. You must get some nice colors with those cool temps

heh, u can do it - go go positivity!!!! air exchange is god for temps.. that an efficient parts. timing your flowering hours to lowest ambient temps might also help a bit as well?

Thanks for reminding me I have to check and clean my "Pre-Filter" I placed over my fans :tiphat:

I just used an extra piece from a Holmes Air Filter, just the thin black 'pre-filter' and I added some Drier Sheets just over the LED housing (under the pre-filter) for a "HEPA" filter :ying:

Nah...it was an option from the factory
I just took apart my pro source 90w led. I'm about to order some new drivers and leds for it. Gonna try and keep it as plug and play as possible. Bjb quick connects for leds, self tapping screws, and reuse all existing connectors. Looks like it will be about $250 for new parts.

Should be worth it though. The pro source grows them nice but penetration, efficiency, and reduced stretching could be improved. Better than throwing it away.

Here's a photo of the driver in the EBay/China light that I have.
If I upgrade the drivers from 500ma to 700ma I will create a brighter light and at the same time I will create more heat, now knowing that I have no issue with heat now do you think this upgrade is something I should consider?

I think it would be a minimal improvement. Still probably not the best leds. You would probably gain more in knowledge from tinkering with the light then actual growth improvement.
But I'm no expert....yet. Hopefully someone with more experience can give you a better answer
I think if your going to do an upgrade it should be 1000ma and up, with appropriate leds.

My pro source is gonna get 2 inventronics 40w 1650ma drivers and 12 xml l2 leds. It should be done in the next two weeks or so.
If that works out I got another panel or two I can upgrade also after that, with more wattage.
Keep my fingers crossed and if it works well my days of buying high dollar units may be over.

Just FYI, the Noah 8 comes with Epileds and ED diodes not Epistar or Bridgelux. I also didn't see anything above 350ma in their specs.

They may have some lower bin Epistar 350ma, but I haven't figured out where.

I'm trying to see if I can use it as supplemental lighting in flower. If not, I'll use it for newbies coming out of the cloner.

Even with no upgrades, my Noah was 730+ shipped. For me, I could've gotten almost 2 Gavitas for that. I know it's not a direct comparison since most people using LEDs are trying to avoid heat issues.

The Noah pulls more than 750+watts with 1200w of diodes.

I'll test it out and give it a fair shot.

I didn't use as much white as you did, Positivity.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm on board for your upgrades, I hope it pans out, your last line is inspirational.

Hendoku> the Noah's do put out some led power, 750 is a whole lot from one panel.
Does your case get really hot to the touch around the integrated modules?
When I told the gehl rep the growth was not so great, I did explain it may have been my addition of so much ww leds, and may have been my fault.
Hopefully your unaltered version performs better.
Only about 60w out of about 370w led power is ww so I don't think that's the problem.
Maybe my tent is too small for so much watts? Hard for me to believe that when I know I could drop my 600w hps in there and grow fat colas.
Either way please let me know how it works for you when you have a good idea of the performance.
A dollar a watt is nice....

You got it, positivity. I posted a pic of my Noah next to a 1150 watt Gavita in the other thread. I probably should've posted it here. I still have to take the glass out. I wish I had my Quantum meter, but a friend has it. I would take readings before and after removing the glass. 60w of white is still almost 17%. So, that is a nice experiment. I had a couple green in my panel.

We will see what happens.

HDY, FYI most Epiled's, whether 1w or 3w, are the same emitter's. There are no bin's in the industry term of the word. Your individual chip quality is determined at random based on whether the person operating the machine that day was on it or not lol. Better brand's you are paying more for better QC, and the flawed chips (Ie lower output...) are sold for a lower price. The chinese just pump em out, indiscriminate of PAR output, so long as they shine bright enough visually. That being said they do their job, putting out a specific color of light, at an intense ass job. Now are they being applied in the right way to grow Marijuana? I do not think so. They are kinda just left guessing, and going off our input when it comes to actual R&D pertaining to growing our specific plant. Now if you look at our community, there are some individuals really making it work! Most of these designs they use have already been done by the chinese. Now if you think about what I said, then you can see what the problem is. They tend to not really think when it comes to designing. They have the means to easily and cheaply make rocking panel's, they just can't get the combo's right most of the time, Ie under powered driver's with lens, mid range drivers and more cooling but no lens, funky spectrum etc... Do your dirt, copy some one who you deem sucessful, and the only disappointment's in the end will be your own fault. I made the mistake of buying Blackstar UFO's thinking they would be "100w" (Ooh at 1w/g yay! Not!). I mean they do great for their actual wattage, but penetrating more then 6" is a long shot. After realizing it's never gonna pull 3z's and looking into it I realized 1) I could have bought it cheaper from china. 2)Technically it does what it should. And 3)There are many more capable panel's to be found from china, if you know what to look for. I got 180w's for $1.20/w shipped, with build and grow quality on par with Advanced Diamond Series. Integrated is too risky IMO, until VG finishes his 100w show...

Cool corn on the cob, I could see that thing being pretty useful in the canopy

Well enough bitching and moaning about heat and fried plants...lets see what she can do

Annac nycd f2 x swt3 seconds, coconut kush, and hp13...12 days in flower
Hp is the most fried one...she's always the first to let me know when something's not right
