Connoisseur high from large yielders...

Hey all,

So in preparation for my first upcoming grow, I am trying to decide which genetics to add to my medical garden.

Since you're only allowed so many, I'd like to make 'em count...

Thanks!

Gee, I wonder if anyone else would have started a thread like this at IC mag? Could you really be the first to ask this question? Could the answer to it be unique for your situation? Lol, just messin with you. Of course this question has been asked a 100 times in 100 ways. Peace GS

Clone or seed? And while I agree with green about these types of threads they seem to always boil down to the same shit strains. Quality much more important than quantity. u can improve quantity u cant improve quality. I would like to see a fresh take on this leaving the old names by the side especially from seed. Enjoy ur research its a pain going thru all the bs. But there is plenty of what u seek. If from seed my advise and the best way to determine is to pick a few then pm people who have said they have grown it or r growing it in a thread but never mentioned it again. Thats where the truth is..

Growhi nothing personal but would u really recommend a rez strain to someone new. This guy needs something easy and fairly consistant. If it comes to chem d ibthink there are better more consistant choices out there. But I think something with chem d is a good starting point.

cmon bro, we need a more detailed question! first, what do YOU define as a "connosieour" high (could be a pain killer, munchy inducing, crippling indica stone, or a functional or social, motivating soraing sativa high???), next, what do you define as a large yielder??? any prerequisites as at least 1g/watt no matter how shitty it's grown??? whats the desired flowering time??? yadda yadda ...

oh of course but he asked for connoisseur quality and large quality !

stability wasn't a prerequisite !

get northan lights if you want stable ! good quality and big yeild ! or bogbobble another one ! .................. whether that's connoisseur ??? ........... suppose depends on the person

If i would go with a chem cross. Raskal, pisces, karma, top dog and some others is where I would put my money thats all. Some good growers had luck and others not so much. Rez seemed a lot more hit or miss all the way around. And time and space seem to be an issue here.

Casey Jones yields well and has a unique high.

Don't think original seeds are avaiable but maybe look for crosses? Connoisseur Genetics have a few hybrids using a selected cut of Casey Jones.

Peace

^^this. strawberry diesel looks to be a nice yielder of high grade bud and dr.p's AO crosses. both cheaply priced too.

Grape Krush from DJ Short or try and find the Grape Ape clone. Both yield very well and have great effects and are both easy strains to deal with.

Peace,

I have no input, sorry, as I am only on my first grow, but I have to kind of agree with this post...

Everyone has different definitions of what is best for them. Most of the growers here would seriously laugh at my setup and the size of my plants (they are only 12" and 18" tall), but you know what? I am only growing for myself. Even though I smoke every night, I only go through a gram about every 3 weeks or so, so I don't need huge producers. I am more concerned about quality than quantity :) Others may be the complete opposite. Still others may want to find more of a balance. It all depends. So with that in mind, if you share a little more of YOUR definitions of a connoisseur high, and a large yield, these great folks might be able to narrow it down a bit more, TerpeneDream. Best of luck to you!

I am not that dreamy.

First time out the gate, I would look for strains that are labeled as "easy to grow." After you get the ins and outs down, then focus on gathering quality genetics based on the preferences you develop. Yield is based on veg time, some plants stack more than others, but every plant can be over-vegged.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Do you prefer: sleepytime indicas, stoney indicas, muddled potent hybrids, soaring sativas, energetic sativas, scary sativas or dreamy sativas?

Large spindly plants require a different growing style than small dense plants. What space are you growing in? Under what type of light? What growing style will you be using scrog / sog / multiple topping / stake / lst?

Are you looking for colorful or specific tastes out of your plants? Depending on what you're looking at the flavor of the smoke can be anything from girl scout cookies to fruit flavored candy.

What about odor strength? Some strains like Road Kill Skunk are very smelly!

How long is an acceptable time to wait for smoke? If you grow dense indicas: 8 weeks of flowering, hybrids clock in around 10-14 weeks, if you grow pure hazes 19-26 weeks of flowering.

When I saw the phrase " connoisseur high", my mind went to DJ Short. But beware, with most connoisseur type herbs come pain in the ass, picky plants. Don't expect connoisseur quality herb from your first grow. Hell, your first year or two should give you decent herbs but you have a lot of variables to adjust to attain the mind blowing herb that has become so rare.

I started with DJ gear out of the gate when I started growing indoors in 2005. But it still took a few runs to dial in the environment to where they were happy enough to reward me with the fire.

First grow? You really want something easy, near bulletproof.

There are a lot of different parameters wrt yield, but autoflowers deliver decent yields in very short timeframes, with some being very good smoke. They're also extremely hardy and not finicky in the slightest. 70 days, seed to harvest, at ~ 3/4 oz per plant with basic gardening skills in enriched organic soil under always on HID lighting. Light leaks don't matter, and exotic fertilizer regimens don't either because they're done before the soil is anywhere near worn down. They're a snap to grow if you don't over water.

The sooner the crop comes in the first time around, the sooner you'll have attractively priced stash to tide you over until the next batch of whatever you decide is ready.

I can personally recommend Samsara Ultraviolet with the caveat that odor control is an absolute necessity for these skunky funky girls. The parent strain is Soma's Lavender, def connoisseur smoke.

Or read up, make your choice from the recommendations of others here.

Thanks to all for your helpful input!

Swampdankv2 and Jhhnn....I agree! Dj shorts Blueberry and Flo are on the list, and some of my favorites. A nice pheno of Lavender is too. RIP to my friend Jeremy, growing the finest Lavender I have ever tasted...

On to the specifics!

So I threw this blanket thread out there so get a general idea of what's (enjoyably) producing these days as making RSO is my main priority on round 1. After that...it's on!

So I'm going to renew my Medcard this week, hoping to get a 24 plant count. RSO, tinctures, and balms are high on my list...

So, I'm thinking...

6 - 100% Landrace Indica - I'd love to find some real deal old school Afghani and a few others...

6- Indica Dominates- Mostly Djs Blueberry, maybe some high CBD hybrids

6- Sativa Dominates 60-80% - Flo and I'm thinking maybe Ace or Cannabiogen

6- 100% Sativas - Landrace. any suggestions?!

So what would you guys recommend for Landraces (ind. and sat) and hybrids?

My priorities are Effect, Taste, then Yield. The ONLY reason yield is even a factor is because I need to make medicine asap, then I'll dive into cool unique strains regardless...

Thanks guys (and girls)!

I've had good luck with several strains. Recently Sour Purple from Infinitesimal is tops, but I also had good luck with OG Chem and White Jones from CSG. I think there is potential in lots of strains, the key is keeping your plants healthy.
