2. if you read trade literature anywhere that said you should repeat applications of avid at 3 day intervals, you were hallucinating.

.

It actually says to repeat the avid treatment in 3 days, then 5 days, then switch to a different poison for a while. It says that in the booklet attached to the Avid container.

It also says to repeat treatments on all new growth.

Don't listen to anything Sunset Limited says, at least about Broad Mites.

GetMO you are on the right path and will be successful beating these things. Establish an IPM system in your gardens and your all good.

This jewel of nonsense is from Sunset Limited:

3. if you read trade literature anywhere that advised you to follow up an application of a chemical pesticide with the very same pesticide, you should probably go back and read it again. it doesn't say that

Here is a quote directly from the Avid label:

"Repeat every 7 days for 2 or 3 weeks"

"For mites, apply when mites first appear and repeat as necessary to maintain control."

and

"For tarsonemid mites, repeat applications to newly developing tissue may be necessary to maintain control."

What the hell labels are you reading? Obviously none.
You are making stuff up SUNSET LIMITED. Please stop.
You are not helping, you are spewing nonsense.

Jus hit with the og biowar tonight, they seem like they really bounced back since the avid treatments, but Im goin into flower now so no more avid. Havent noticed any new damage so this is a preventative, finna hit um again with it in 4 days, then I was thinkin bout ordering some predator mites. Since this is outdoor I really don't want to have to deal with it every year, so maybe enough predator mites will wipe um out or least keep the population low.

Keep in mind that OGB WILL kill predator mites, too.

some people's kids...

i think you may suffer from a selective sort of blindness. you see only what you want and ignore the rest. it's sad and not surprising that you would be the one to bring a personal attack and incomplete information to the table.

this is from the same label:

Resistance Management
Treatment may not be effective against these pests if Avid tol-
erant strains develop. Therefore, when applying Avid to plants
that are hosts of labeled pests with multiple generations per
crop or year, resistance management strategies must be used.
Such strategies may include, but are not limited to, rotation of
products with different modes of action, avoid treatment of suc-
cessive generations with the same product, use of labeled rates
at specified spray intervals
, non-chemical alternatives such as
beneficial arthropods, rotation of susceptible to non-susceptible
plants, and various cultural practices.
For additional information
on the implementation of these or other resistance management
strategies, consult with your State Cooperative Extension Ser-
vice.

thank you Sunet.

rotation is important for keeping your garden pest free as after time it's the only effective method and also slows the development and spread of resistant pests.

soon we will have avid, forbid, pylon, conserve resistant broad mites if this shit keeps up.

and the things we do in our garden the 'ghetto' way (ie. spraying only avid) affect the crops aside from our most beloved. professionals also rotate so that other farmers are not potentially at risk of getting pesticide resistant bugs.

small bottles can be had of almost all of them. search ebay, and by the real name not brand name too helps like for Phantom AKA cheap as hell Pylon.

i haven't had a bug in a LONG time, recently (last 6 months) i spray my veg once per month with a different product. and i spray plants ~10 days before flip.

@ Sunset Limited: You stated that no bottle ever says to use the same product twice in a row. Well, the Avid bottle does.

You are wrong. Nothing more to say on that.

BTW - Diatomaceous earth works as an insecticide too.
The fact that you think Diatomaceous earth is some "hippy-patchouli bull" tells me that you don't know what you are talking about, and you should not be running a hydro store. It is what I used to rid myself of Root Aphids (along with Imidicloprid). Works on fungus gnats too. Insects cannot build a resistance to it. Diatomaceous earth works.

Most herb-croppers will never have to use Avid more than two (or maybe three times) in a season. So there would be no reason to rotate miticides for 95% or cannabis growers. The plants will be harvested before needing more treatments.

People that keep mom's (clone vendors) for 6 months or more would be the only ones that would ever need to cycle to another mode of action.

There are many routes you can take, but...

Avid works.

Keep in mind that OGB WILL kill predator mites, too.

The owner of OGBiowar told me specifically, when I asked, that OGBiowar does not kill predator mites. I emailed him and asked this question.

Different family of insects. Different kinds of bodies.

To be safe Ima discontinue the og biowar a few days before I release the predators.
Sunset is right that you shouldn't keep spraying avid over and over as that is how bugs get immune. But 3-4 sprays in a row wouldn't hurt, I just wouldn't do any more then that before switching it up for a while.

it's all about CONTINUED usage of one mode of action.

yes, the avid bottle says spray each few days for awhile so that sufficient coverage is achieved. but i guarantee, use it non-stop for a year and you will have resistant mites.

i'm warning you Thomas, just be careful. broad mites are rarely if ever eradicated. i do believe that once a location has had em, they are there for the long haul.

but i dunno maybe it's just a commercial thing. maybe you really did eradicate them from your tent and if so that's awesome but my homes are filled 70% + with plants.

good luck everyone.

I have eradicated broad mites with OGBIOWAR. I am running 4 rooms, and none of them have mites anymore. Size does not matter. Size also does not justify using chemicals on a plant that people are going to ingest. Shit blows me away.

I thought you posted that you didn't have broad mites? :)

Be careful OO!!! Talking about a none chemical brand names (that work) can get you kicked off the site. Only Forbid , Avid and all the other chemical brands can be mentioned over and over.

The shit that blows me away is that everyone (not many) on here that has tried OGBWit seems to have solved their problem except for one i think. Maybe they didn't have the humidity high enough.

Strip everything down to veg plants only

apply Forbid 4f

3 days later apply avid

repeat for 2-3 weeks

I fought these damn things for a long time, and that method was the only one that worked for me

OGB works

OGB works

OGB works ,I'm convinced. A sticker with these words will be on my jars. I will post pic's rite before harvest. And have nothing else to say about this. All the very best peeps.:woohoo:

hey guys, i have BM's from PO. these things are gnarly! i have avid, floramite, and neem. i've been spraying every week and i cycle through the sprays. it has kept it from becoming an outright infestation but i still see signs that they are there.

what has been the best for PO broad mites? i've read a lot in this thread and i'm about to purchase an arsenal to knock these things out. here is what i am planning to get so far. let me know what you think-
forbid
kontos
pylon
akari
ogbiowar

i'm holding off flowering anything until i get these things are gone. i hate using all these crazy chemicals, but if i can rid my girls of them it's worth it.

also i know this is REALLY stupid, but i'm thinking of getting more clones from PO. i love their earthshaker og and i want a cut pretty badly. if i get them i will have them quarantined and i will bomb on them hard.... it sucks to have to make my self vulnerable just to be able to grow my favorite strain :(

Getting new clones from PO IS stupid. You can get them on your clothes/shoes just walking into that place.
Personally, I would use heat treatment + OGBIOWAR. Unlike poisons, heat will kill all mites in your grow space, and can be repeated at any time to deal with new arrivals, even in flower. But that's just me. To each his own.

i know :(
between the broad mites, pm, root aphids, and mosaic virus you'd think i wouldn't go back... the virus is hit or miss on the strains from there. some strains have it some dont...if it doesn't have a virus then it's only broad mites i am worried about. i already have them, and if i am going to nuke my stuff and eradicate them, then one more strain can be included. it's the same broad mites. i wouldn't do it for any other strain, but that earthshaker og has become my favorite strain. i've actually been buying it from a club for top dollar, and i have my own dank to smoke that i grew...

it's sad what i will go through to find dank, but in the end i hope to come out with a hand full of keepers that are clean. after that i'm done taking in strains for a while. i have to have at least one awesome og though. i wanted tahoe at first, but their cut has the virus.

also RetroGrow, i will take your advice and try the heat treatment and ogbiowar if you can honestly tell me that you personally think that with that route i can fully eradicate the breed of broad mites i'm getting from PO. trust me, i don't want to use the chemicals, but at the same time if i can be fully clean again in two months and not have to worry (minus preventatives) then i will do what ever it takes.

Diatomaceous earth will also kill mites by breaching their cuticles, which dries out the mites.

A layer kept on top of dry medium will stop them from climbing onto your plants.

Same with fungus gnats and root aphids, but the DE will stop them from entering your root zone.

Obviously wouldn't work with pure hydro systems, more for people that use coco or soil.

Dollars to donuts, it's not TMV, but rather a pervasive broad/cyclamen mite infestation, producing symptoms that some mistake for the elusive "TMV". TMV isn't a killer of cannabis anyway. Usually plants grow out of it undamaged. A couple of twisted leaves when they are young means nothing. But BMs & cyclamens will destroy your plants, and PO is spreading them INTENTIONALLY, because they know about it but continue to sell infected cuts. Maybe they make more money that way by idiots going back there to replenish their just destroyed crop with new, infected cuts. It's just crazy to patronize them. They should be taking care of their BM problem internally, but instead they are creating super mites. Soon, BMs & cyclamens will be resistant to all the stuff that now controls them. They should be boycotted until they get things under control. Why would you want to give them your money when they are screwing everyone over? Like I said, I wouldn't even walk into that place. There are umpteen thousands of strains out there. You can make your own crosses. Why do you have to have the "flavor of the month"? It's all hype. There's SO much good herb, and the variety is off the charts compared to the old days. If you go into any dispensary to purchase clones, you should carry a scope with you, and bust them right there on the spot if they are not clean. And change your clothes & shoes before going in there, or before going back home.
I haven't used OGBIOWAR, but I tend to believe the individuals who claim to have had success with it.
I know heat works because I have done it, as have many others. There's no resistance to heat. The bugs will die no matter where they came from.
But there is no "final" solution to these. They will come back if they get into your house. So you have to continue scoping & continue treating when necessary. Maybe the OGBIWAR will prove to be final solution. I don't know and only time will tell.
