Good point, actually. I had initially raised it up higher on the day I bumped the ballast up to the full 1000 watts, because I was still being cautious, and didn't want to overheat the plants. The plan was to monitor the temps for the first 7 days and make sure things were good before lowering the reflector again. I was supposed to do that yesterday, and I forgot. Thank you for reminding me. I just went back in there and lowered it. It's now about 14 inches above the tallest growth tips in the middle.

I tried getting closer than that, but it seems to decrease the lighting footprint, so that there is less light around the perimeter of the garden. So I settled on 14 inches. :)

I know this is going to sound silly... in fact, I want to laugh at myself whenever I think it... but the truth is, this is a question that keeps rolling around my head, so I'm going to ask it:

Does anyone think my plants are too bushy?

In other words, did I LST too much or anything like that? Because, I don't know, when I look at the canopy, as beautiful as it is, it looks like a sea of green instead of 5 bushes. Know what I mean? So, that makes me wonder, is it only going to be the top buds that get all the light? If so, am I going to have to do staggered harvests? Do I have to worry about mildew down in the middle or bottom of the bushes?

Okay, I guess that was several questions, lol. I've just never had such a dense bush like this before!

I would remove all the fans at day 21 and after that anything that shades a bud. Some remove all the fans at day 21 and again at day 45. This cuts down on mildew and helps air curculation greatly.

Day 21 in flower or at the end of stretch then again at day 45. I tend to pick off fan leaves anytime they get a stem longer than an inch.

Another method is to remove the fans from the top four or five nodes leaving the lower fans to give you a warning if you are getting a deficiency or over ferting. This might be preferable if you are growing horizontally. I know it seems merciless to defoliate like this but it has always paid off for me.

dont go crazy when removing the fans though. some strains dont like it as much as others and you never done it in veg. i'd just remove the odd light blocking fan leaf now and again from day 20 odd (after the stretch). and i know this sounds stupid, but if you bushed out 4 plants instead of 5, each of the 4 individual plants would have bushed out even more and your canopy would have been even tighter.

your hempy buckets are looking absolutely great for your first go. i'm interested in your irrigation set up. how often do you water and do you water til run off on all waterings?

K+.

Thanks! Yeah, I water every day, right when the lights come on. Not set to a timer though, as I wanted to witness first hand how much water they wanted and how often their thirst went into different phases. So I just manually run the water pump every night right when the lights come on. Yes, I run the pump until water comes out of the overflows. Not a whole lot though... I basically unplug the pump the moment that I see water coming out of all 5 buckets. Then, about once every 7 or 8 days, when the reservoir is getting close to empty and I'll have to refill it anyway, I let the pump run until it gurgles, which is when the bucket reservoirs really get refreshed, from all the excessive runoff.

Beautiful plants man! Looking awesome, pics could use some green though. They look kinda grey and I'm sure in real life they are vibrant.

Thanks guys. DH, I have a 35 gallon reservoir outside the tent, and a water pump sends the solution into spaghetti tubing that is routed to each bucket. It is currently manually operated, but I always have the option of connecting a timer.

TC, I know what you mean about the pictures. I'm using my only camera which is my Android, and the only way I know how to adjust for the orange HPS light is to change the white balance setting to "incandescent." I should just take a few natural light photos every once in a while, with the HPS off. I've seen some of your photos, and you are a straight up photographer. I'm a guy with an Android, lol.

My wife has a nice camera, and she knows how to use it... I should just ask her to take pics from now on!

Hush, I'm really jealous of your even canopy. I always get a few branches that just want to stretch even if the light is less than a foot away. I'm definitely taking notes on your grow style. keep up the good work

Thanks Bud. If it makes you feel any better, I actually do have 3 branches in here that are doing just that. You can see them in the 2nd and 3rd pictures in post #153. They are the ones right directly beneath the lamp. But it doesn't seem excessive, and they don't seem to be shading anything else out, so I've decided not to let it bother me.
