What do people Spray on their outdoor plants (foliar, IPM, etc.)

I use a mix of products right now to keep the plants healthy and fungus free. I have had good results so far, although I never think I have the battle won. This year I am lollypopping everything to help. Also Im not pinching any tops, to keep plants tall and open to ventilation. These products double as my bug spray too!

Right now Im using:
Serenade (bacillus subtilis)
Neem (azadiractin)
Rosenthals Organic Fungicide (rosemary, cinnamon and other essential oils)
Safergro Mildew Cure (Garlic, Corn, Garlic OIls)
Mosquito Barrier (garlic)

All these products are OMRI organic Im pretty sure. No more Eagle for this hippy (it didn't do much for prevention, just paranoia)

I also spray a calcium foliar.

The Rosenthals looks like an excellent product. Vaporizing similar mixes prevents mold in houses...a place called mold misery uses a similar approach.

Nice mix you have there

First off, sorry for being short. I am tired and got shit to do.

So I went to the Max Yield Hydro Show this weekend in San Fransico Ca. The guys from Vital Earth (one of my favorite companies) bought the PureProtienDry product and are now calling it Ocean Grown or OG for short. The guy swears by the product and everybody that had used the product seems to say the same. However the reason I bring this up is because the guy who bought the product was telling me not to mix any other products with it.

Now this is where you guys will have to bear with me, I was really really stoned and quite tired when I got told all this, plus there was 100 people swarming around me.

He said, (very loosely) that the OG product has a very simple amino acid structure. WHen you add products like kelp to the foliar bottle, it instantly combines peptide bonds from the kelp and this makes for a long-chain polypeptides, and thus not as easily assimilated by the plants.

I know I am going to leave out any other products for another application now after listening to this guy. He not only sounded like he know what he was talking about, but he was very passionate about it.

Discussion anybody?

Veg N Out

How much water are you mixing that in? The amino products are straight up amazing. If you get the Ca and B in the leaf as molecules vs ions they can move as well as say the NO3 ion. Nothing else does that.

Always a pleasure to correspond with you! I am putting that 60 gallons of water. I have not seen results like with this with any other product. Truly amazing and I appreciate you turning me on to them.

My opinion anymore, for whatever that is worth, is that if you want tria use alfalfa in your soil mix...whole alfalfa meal, not just something water soluble. Microbes are not only fully capable of digesting fat as well as water soluble stuff...they love it. Fat is the highest density energy source of anything they can digest. It makes them reproduce...add enzymes to that mix and you will never look back at compost teas agains...or maybe you might, but I ain't

I do use Alfalfa Meal in my soil mix, you know this. I don't really mess with the teas any more because the soil microbiology is already there. I am more interested in culturing it in the beds than I am making a juice with it and applying it. The latter seems like more work

1 cup of sprouted barley seed in 55 gallons of water = high enzyme tea. Fuck the overpriced hydro store shit. Or try alfalfa seeds at least in veg.

I'll try that out. Do you sprout the seeds to a certain point then just soak them and strain? Do you add any Fulvic Acid to bring the pH down to maybe extract more enzymes?

And for you users of Roots accelerator (however they misspell that)...next time chunk some Ca amino chelate in that mix instead of the hydro store shit...see if the response might not be similar. I don't know for a fact...but I suspect.

I don't buy expensive water, but I'll try doing a root feeding with the Ca powder on a control group of plants next time I root up some young ones

Me wonders what would happen if you chunked KSil/fulvic acid in that mix...the fulvic complexes the silicic acid and K in a similar manner to what the aminos do the Ca and B. Then you have the 3 elements responsible the flow of everything else.

I have some Protekt laying around that I could try it out with, I just figure with all the azomite in my soil and all the rock dusts etc., I have enough K and Si in my battery to not add more on the leaf

Have not tried it yet...just one of those random thoughts that pass through me brain from time to time.

I can relate to what you're saying about those random thoughts that pass through...Always looking for a way to push them, just a bit more...

:thank you:

I use it by itself. What I have done this yr is day 1 Silica emulsified in neem with aloe, day 2 a mineral mix always with heavy Ca and then day 3 sometimes nothing (unless brix is well above 12 I don't feed N, I figure the plants needed the minerals alone), sometimes PPD, sometime Ferti Nitro (which I get an equal response to PPD). I mix em up to get different amino profiles...diversity.

My thinking is you gotta get the minerals in the plant first to support the protein foliar.

Veg...for a 55 gallon mix of enzymes I take one cup of barley seeds and let em go til they have 1/2-1 inch tails. I just do it in a 5 gallon bucket. Then I fill the bucket about half full and let it sit 24 hours if it is hot or I would go 48 if it were cooler...you do not want any fermentation to start. Then I filter that into 55 gallons and use it...no pH adjustments of any kind for me anymore.

Be prepared to watch your leaves pray. I use to think that was bad, that they were turning away from the energy source. Still bugs me some...but the results speak. Probably easiest to use as a soil drench...jacks up the microbes. Which you may not need

Just try it on a single plant and decide for yourself.

edit...credit where credit is due. This is a Cootz technique. I also find his Neem meal and crab meal (20% Ca in the CO3 form along with chitin and about 3% animal protein) to be fantastic soil additions...stinky as can be.

Milky - Thanks for the feedback. I must ask, what exactly do you use for day 2 and 3?

I ask because I have been using Calcium25, but due to the weather in my area I can only apply 3-5 times a year. I don't think this is sufficient, and I don't want to soil feed my plants via your and Veg's advice. Been looking for another product to help aid in this, and haven't found one I trust yet.

Would love to know day three also. I have great soil this year, but I am sure I should be adding minerals along the way.

Day 1...2 tbs per gallon Silica emulsified in 4 tbs neem oil and 1/4 cup aloe. Mix the silica/neem separately to get it to emulsify, then tepid water.

Day 2...it depends. Always Albion Ca, B and micros. Sometimes Photomag, srp, kelp. Generally fulvic acid. I do little tester deals along the way...one plant and see how it responds on things like srp or photomag...if brix goes up on that plant they all get it, if it does not they don't.
edit...this really depends on your soil mix. the non mobile things always seem to benefit from foliar, more mobile things depend on your specific soil mix. For example if you have plenty of K you will probably never get a response from foliar K...Mg, sometimes you do sometimes you don't. The 4 that really drive brix are Ca and B (synergists) and Mg and P (also synergists).

Day 3...sometimes nothing, sometimes one of the N products. If the brix is lowish I don't do this...I want the minerals in the plant to raise brix. If the brix is already high I add N to get a growth spurt. I never do that more than one week in a row though cause I don't wanna push the plants unnaturally. My main concern is getting the plants as healthy as possible.

@jrmedic...My plants are just starting stretch. Next week will be the last time I spray PPD. One more week after that minerals and then its time to ride it out for me. Never past mid August.

I was also at that show! Got some great samples

I am like a kid in a candy store for that show. Most of the freebies get put on house plants/veggies, but saves me a ton of money. Been going for all 10 years in SF. It's funny because I am a little anti-social and I tend not to go to big events. My family makes fun of me saying this is the only thing I go to all year long.:tiphat:

OB. If you're looking for a cheaper, more accessible, Ca for foliar, check out SaferGro Biomin Calcium. I couldn't find the Metalosate Albion Ca that Milky and Veg have.

What happened to milky joe and organic buds?

What happened to milky joe and organic buds?

I was hoping to direct this question at them, but will gladly accept other feedback.

I have a garden going in 1 yard mounds of the nor cal blend with no ammendments and shredded tree mulch on top. I've been applying simple AACT through the soil as well as the leaves. After my last foiliar application I sprayed Pure Protein Dry on the girls. I then had to spend 7 days away from the garden and came back to many plants begging for magnesium through their canoeing display.

My question is this: have any of you experienced similar reactions to PPD applications? My understanding is that magnesium is both an activator and constituent of many enzymes. If the proteins applied required higher levels of Mg for the plant to process them, could this have maybe caused an excessive use of the available Mg and resulted in a deficiency? Is it maybe that the plants started using up all their reserves that were easily available in the leaves and is now needing to take up more from the soil? Will they correct themselves in the long run?

I've since added an application of calmag as well as epsom salts, both via the leaves. I'm thinking of adding Photomag from aea to my arsenal..

Any suggestions?
