Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster. I wish it was under better circumstances. I'm incredibly paranoid right now, and I'm not sure whether or not I should shut everything down. I am a small time personal grower first of all, but regardless I do not want to jeopardize my freedom and risk getting busted. That being said, today I had a very suspicious interaction with the post man. In recent weeks I had been ordering a good amount of grow related stuff (Mostly via UPS). Today I got a knock at the door, and it was USPS delivering some seeds which had been ordered. The guy hands me the package, and his pen and I am about to sign for it. Then all of a sudden the guy goes, "So you are (Insert Name)?"... This took me a little by surprise, it seemed out of the ordinary. I play dumb, and say, "What?". I can tell this guy is looking for something, and hes out of his element.... He responds, "You are (Insert name), right? This is your house right?" Alright, now I know something isnt right here. I begin to backtrack and say that I was expecting an order but this box is far too small. I also surely didn't order anything from oversees.... He looks at me strangely, continuing to force the topic. "But this is you, right?". He then perches his head like a fucking bird around me, and stares at the number on my house.. "This is (Insert address), right?" Wow genius, you should take an acting class, I thought to myself... I denied the package, and sent him away. I asked if he had a larger package, because I was expecting something else. He replies to say "Oh well I dont have anything else on the truck, but you have had alot of orders recently"... This was another alarm going off in my head, because the majority of my orders were delivered by UPS. I hadn't had THAT many coming in from USPS. It felt like if I was about to sign for that package, the second he drove away LEO was going to roll through. Now I am sketched the fuck out... SOmething was NOT right here. Do you think this was a case of a rogue postal worker, or could he have been pushed by LEO? Do you think it is possible they have a warrant? I am really thinking of shutting everything down, but I am out of meds and need to know what you guys think.

Also, I feel that it is worth mentioning that I did not recognize this guy. The USPS guy normally drops the package off and runs away without me signing for it. This dude looked unfamiliar, and genuinely looked like a cop.

You made it seem like you were shady. You should have just signed for it, and acted like it wasn't shit. If they are on to then they are on to you. You acting paranoid about some mail only makes you look shady. Now if they get a warrant, and open up the seeds they have all they need.

That wouldn't have happened if you would have signed for the seeds.

You could be sprouting seeds right now instead of tearing down your grow. :)

Yeah that was my first instinct was that I should sign it, but something just was not right. This guy was poking, prodding, and prying. Everything he said to me seemed incredibly unnecessary.

Normally I play it cool, but something wasn't right. I mean who asks if this is you and if this is where you live as you are signing a package? I mean for christ sakes the guy even said I had been ordering alot of stuff. Something was off...

Maybe it was a "signed for" package, only delivered to a certain recipient with proof of id required.

Or maybe it was the cops who needed your signature on a piece of paper to get a warrant? If they already had one they wouldn't play games like this, they'd be knocking your door down at 6 in the morning.

Who knows. Might be a good idea to shut things down for a while. For your own peace of mind more than anything else. Stress is a killer.

yeah all these big corporations are being trained by nsa to "know their customers", thats probably why he was asking questions. i hear that a lot of places do that nowadays, not just the banks. car rental agencies, hotel employees, taxi drivers and truckers are all told to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary, i guess postal workers are no exception.

I don't know, I have signed for seeds a few times and they never ask for name or ID or ask any questions. And I live in a small town! It's always just "nice weather huh?" and other small talk bs. And I scribble an illegible swirly mess when I sign.

Thanks for the input guys.

I normally just sign a "Swirly Mess" as well, and he made a point for me to print my last name somewhere else as well. It just struck me as very odd. I have recieved many packages and this was the first time anything like this has happened. It was very out of the ordinary.

I just ordered a bunch of regular garden seeds so I dont have to tear everything down, and atleast its something to keep busy on in the garden for the time being.

Would it be stupid to only tear some of the plants down, while leaving one or two up? I have 9 plants right now, but I'm wondering if they come knocking if I only have one or two would that help my cause? It seems like of like an All or nothing type of deal.

It just sucks because I dont know how long I would have to lay low for, and I'm out of meds as it is right now =\

Well, if the cops are knocking, they don't have a warrant. I'd say stay the course, but that's a decision only you can make.
My own incident: Fedex wouldn't deliver laboratory equipment and some reagents to my place until I went to the Canadian Customs and explained what I was planning to use all of that stuff for... Showed my papers, no issues.
Good luck

What exactly would they need to get a warrant? My logic behind turning down the package was that I could avoid the one incriminating thing they could have on me.

I have ordered a good amount of grow equipment online.
Increased power bill

But that is really it. I do not sell. I grow hydroponically and do not dispose of any waste outdoors. I'm considering staying the course, and just proceeding with clones until I have a secure location to order seeds to.

What do they need to get a warrant? Is suspicion enough? I would like to think they have bigger fish to fry, but even small fish get caught in the net sometimes.

Probably was a postal worker, but someone higher up. NOt sure if LEO would pose as USPS worker, they probably did work for postal. If it was UPS Or feex they prob would pose. BUt who knows.

You watch to see if he continued to the next house or he drive away??

part of me says if you thought it was odd, to have then signed the package, taken it inside, wait a few minutes... swap the seeds out with some nonsense f2's. an wait for another knock.

if that knock came, keep the package nearby, an if u start getting 30 questions ,explain you signed but was unsure what it was, figuired just proof of delivery etc. Then you opened it an was unsure what it was..... and here you go officer... i do not know why this was sent to me but i think there maybe some type of seeds, an look theres what maybe some weed references on the packaging ...

personally. if you have 2 or 9 plants it doenst matter. you might as well have 40, same thing unless they try hitting you for operating a drug factory. The operating drug factory seems to be dependit on how elaborate they think your grow is.

keep it going an stay small for sometime. Hopefully they will get bored when they realize theres not enough evidence an they will move on to the crack head arround the corner that make more mistakes an is easier to catch...

best of luck an b-safe. keep us informed.. always good to hear new ways there trying to be sneakier then us...

First of all ... why would you have to sign for a pkg ? seeds especially . i've recieved so many pkg's of different things like seeds, grow equip. etc..... & never had to sign for a thing . i make sure of it when i order . that way nobody sees your face & can put it with a name . i'd rather loose the pkg to someone stealing it out of the mailbox or off the porch than have some delivery person asking my name & having me sign for anything .

gotta be smart & safe when ordering through the mail/ courier these days ..... especially in a non legal state . get a fake ID & set up a PO box .... safe address ... something to that effect .

UPS uses USPS to deliver packages that are out of the way, and he was probably delivering those to you. Don't know how I feel about the whole situation, though. There are a variety of mail types that require a signature, but none of my purchases ever did.

I WOULD SAY, IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH YOU AT ALL...YOUR RIGHTS WOULD BE THROWN OUT THE WINDOW AND THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN INSIDE WITH OR WITHOUT A WARRANT...IF THEY WANT IN.....THEY GET IN....TRUST ME...WE HAVE NO RIGHTS....DJ

Depending on where you go them, some places to make you sign for the package. He has (supposed) to ask if you are the person the package is addressed to ensure delivery. I would look into that before going crazy. Nothing about that seems out of the ordinary aside from your reaction :)

I have ordered seeds that needed to be signed for. Once I wasn't home, and I had to go to the Post office to pick them up. My stoner kicked in just like yours is right now, and I thought oh shit this is it.:)

Nothing ever happened though. I then learned that just about every person at my Post office is a stoner. Who would have thunk it?

Even the local post master blazes it up. :)

I think that you're a little paranoid; it all depends on who sent them; some postal services such as those found in Holland or the Netherlands require signed for by receiver on certain types of shipments.

I'm surprised that you opened the door to be honest; shit when I'm high I ignore my door even without paranoia.

Best of luck homie!

you should be aware of what you're ordering, i.e. does the seed bank you're dealing with use signed delivery?
otherwise, you'll be in this sketched out situation, and not knowing what to do
if your instincts are right, you're on somebody's radar, and there still could be follow up
