Short term trades in the stock market •$$$$$•

O

OptionDork

Why in the world would we post our trades here from a screen shot like that. Do you know how easy it would be for the pigs to find us. It's really easy to say when you don't post any pics of any plants. You just joined a cannabis site this month and you are here to talk about stocks? Sounds a little suspect to me. Sounds like another member that has some sort of grudge.

That's how I see it.
I post that stuff like that because I have NOTHING to hide. Pigs can come knocking...so what for me. I'll offer them a beer or something. Heck when I run into LEO in town I talk to them about the guns they are carrying. My FFL is LEO. Obviously we live in 2 very different worlds. I've been on canna sites since about 2005 and actually have about 10,000 posts here on IC. You're just speculating. No grudge from where I sit.

Appreciate your input yet:

Don't think SLCA was/is a short...yet. Earnings out like 7-31. It's a slow mover...they sell sand for fracking so not an exciting company or stock. Premiums are low and catch it right and you're golden.

SNDK - I bailed with almost a 100% gain yesterday which almost made up for my failure with DDD and losses there. SNDK has problems, which were confirmed today, and staying away now.

DDD - Because it was ready to break it's downtrend which it did Monday. No follow through though so I bailed Monday. The leading indicator I use, see bottom of chart, has already broken out and waiting for price to confirm. IMO it failed Monday so bailed and have written it off. Still think it might make a day or two run and that's all you need in options. I was right on the downtrend break yet didn't move like I thought it might and general market conditions weak.

AMBA - That's a tougher one cause a fairly recent IPO. I like their products which are video chips for GoPro cameras, car cameras, security cameras and proven track record with the principals. Though to trade the young guns. Nice pennant the past few days yet needs to show me something tomorrow.

The week is still young. One good day and one good option trade makes up for a bunch of stupid stuff

Oh if you need a referral I can provide a few of those here. Stop speculating though.

Since I can't edit forgot...was in and out of other stuff the past few days like GS for starters. I just take every day as it comes.

I don't understand. If you have 10,000 posts on IC and have nothing to hide then why did you set up a second account to talk about stocks? Doesn't make much sense. Why don't you log in to your real account and come back and talk? Now I think you understand why we don't put our screenshots here. Anyway I'm not hating or anything and wish you well in the market. I don't really understand the option market like you but I guess maybe it's good cause you can't lose too much if things go bad.

Dude I've had so many accounts here and 4 other forums since about 2005 I've lost track. I'm constantly reinventing myself. I get bored easily. Well unfortunately sounds like you live in a state that SUCKS regarding canna laws/enforcement. Where I live I see peeps smoking herb on the sidewalk, walk in and out of the local dispensaries and when I drive down the street into town I live on I know there's someone growing herb and not using odor control cause I almost always smell it within one block. I'm pretty sure I know which house it is and pretty much confirmed recently when I saw who it was hanging out there. You gotta love Cali! What ever they do is their bizness.

As far as the part I bolded...you're basically right cause losses are limited. Here's the thing...when you see a stock gonna make a move, either up or down, say like 10% the option (IF you get the right strike price and expiration month) can easily yield 100%. Options are all about timing. Dealing with options has been one of the more challenging things I've ever done. They suck and are great.

Yeah I get it. Personally I like stocks better because I can hold them forever. I hear most options expire worthless but I don't trade them. With stocks, time seems to be more on your side because you don't have to sell them by a certain time. I'm more of a day trader. Sometimes I will hold a stock or ETF or a few minutes just to make 1-10 cents. I can trade 4 times what I have in the market for day trading. You have to have at least 25k for that but I'm sure you know that. So if you only have 25k in the market, they give you 100k to trade with. Some days I trade well over a million because of this. When I first got into the market in 2009, I lost 90k and took a break to think about how I was trading. I got back last year and it's been smooth sailing. It beats the casino. 5.5 years ago I lost 280k in 1 night playing high limit baccarat at Foxwoods for 15k a hand.

Since I can't edit...I should have said expiration week or month and not expiration month. Weekly options rock. Monthlies rock when it's closer to expiration cause you're not paying for all that premium yet when only monthlies you sometimes have to bite the bullet...or pass.

Yes most options expire worthless and some better to trade some than others because of the spread. Enter some option positions, like on SPY, and your down a few percent if that and others when you enter immediately down like 25% with the spread on the bid/ask. The thing that's great about MOST stocks is easy to control your losses if you put your limit orders in 'correctly' with stop loss and stuff unless you are married to your screen. That's one of the reasons why you see a large volume of trades on options on stuff like SPY. The almighty SPY options have great liquidity and a minimal spread.

Then you have to deal with premiums, volatility time decay, etc. Options are multidimensional like the chess game that Spock used to play on Star Trek. Crazy stuff...keeps me on my toes

If I ever did get into options, it would be to buy puts as insurance for my long stocks.

True that then you can always write calls against common stock you own for guaranteed income. If the stock gets called away you've got the income from the calls you wrote yet may miss a large potential gain on the underlying security's movement. If the stock pulls back, and you are a believer long term, the options don't get exercised and you still own the stock then you've reduced the cost of ownership of the common from selling the calls. Lots of ways to play options...endless really.

Yeah well when I get up to 50 posts with this NIC will recommend a great site to learn about options from peeps that know their shit and will help you learn. Seriously dude one day, at least once a year, you see something develop and want max gain. Options at the right time and place can rock or put you one foot in the grave if you 'bet' wrong lol. Credit spread, put spread, call spread, vertical spread, iron condor, iron butterfly...:yay:. Me I just go with a call or put position to keep it simple.

I'd rather deal with options than a casino any day of the week.

Someday i'll get into options but margin gives me enough leverage for now. Hey thx for the mention of slca and amba opdork, both high ranking IBD type stocks, thats the kind of stuff i'm interested in. I like that they are relatively new and small caps with seemingly pretty reasonable valuations.

When I was selling out of the money options my broker said that's what he used to do and is a good strategy and can actually work. My dad had showed me Don Fishback's ODDS method. I did OK but you have to be patient and persistent. You'll have a lot of winners and few losers too, like a 90%+ success rate.

Tomorrow I will either be trading NUGT or UGAZ. I will look at 8 am pre market in hopes that one of them is down a lot before the market opens. This will be a short term hold of no more than 10 days.

Picked up some UGAZ this morning in the very low 20's. Going to gamble on today's Natural Gas inventory report coming out at 10:30. I'm willing to hold for a couple weeks if I have to. Let's see what happens.

And that's why you don't trade on earnings and inventory reports. LOL! Lost 4.5% today and the report wasn't that bad for me but big money runs the show. I'm still going to hold for up to 14 days. I don't see it coming down more than 15% from here but no one knows.

My main account is with Interactive Brokers. I can short many more stocks with them. I also have an Etrade account to take advantage of Power Etrade Pro.
