grinding vs breaking up bud

I think grinders are the most useful innovation in toking during the 25 years I was away from it.

I splurged for the 3.5" Space Case Titanium. It's a nifty tool, big enough to not get lost easily around the casa. Breaking a tooth would require coarse gravel & herculanean effort.

Obviously not for seeded material. I just grind less for the bong, more for joints. It gives excellent even texture for joint rolling.

Absolutely 100% grinder. A good quality grinder is worth its weight in gold. The SC mentioned above is great, perfect consistancy for bowl, bong, or paper. If it burns too fast
just lightly tamp it down, if the loss of a small amount of keif degrades your bud that much, you need stronger bud. But the Keif is there for later.

I went without one for about 20 years, scissors, fingers whatever (like the shotglass and scissors idea). Once getting one I will never do without.

If you have not used a good one, a sharpstone is a pretty inexpensive decent quality grinder. Try one for yourself, it is worth the $25.

SC grinder and a freshly ground properly cured nug + hemp wick + mobius.......do you hear the harps and shit?

Solo bong session- by hand
Group bong session- by hand until I get lazy, then pass off the grinder to someone
Volcano/vaporizers- Grind that shit to oblivion
Joints/blunts- grinder if I want it to look good, by hand if I want it to last a little longer and don't mind a lil bulge here or there (that's what she said)

No brainer. Grinder all day long. I used to use fiskars and shotglass, worked great. But will never go back. Once you go grinder you'll never go back.

For bong hits I often do nothing at all. Just stuff the bud(s) into the bowl. Seems to give most taste this way.

For vaporizing and joints I use a grinder. A good one will get the job done fast and won't get stuck until around half a kilo has gone through it (after which a few drops of iso will get things rolling again).

I do really enjoy the experience, especially the smells, of crumbling buds by hand. But only do it for seeded buds because of, well, the finger hash issue...

thats for pure joints and a board and kitchen knife for tobaco bud mixes.

Honestly, I feel that it depends on the bud.

I've had bud that tasted/smoked better ground up and bud that tasted/smoked better when broken up by hand.

Let the bud tell you what's best for it.

Diabetic neuropathy in both hands & feet. So the day of breaking up bud by hand & scissors are long gone. Coffee bean grinder then scissors to get the stray lump. It's all about learning to adapt.

I just put the bud in my bowl and than get the scissors and just chop it up while its still in the bong bowl:tiphat:.

This will seem like the dumbest question ever, but hey, at least I realize it, right? LOL...

Anyway... I am reading this thread with fascination, because I have never done any of this. I have always smoked with a one-hitter, and I keep my bud in a prescription bottle in a drawer. I just kinda jam the one hitter into the rx bottle down onto the side of a bud, breaking off a little bit, and it packs it in there to smoke. It's worked fine for me for like 15 years. What are the advantages of doing this in a different way? I'd love to learn something new...

If it ain't broke............seems to me unless your getting plastic from the bottle in the pipe and you're happy wit the results all is good. I guess your like me and mostly smoke alone, one hitting it does it.

Yeah, I smoke alone. I can't smoke at parties or anything because of the... um... interesting side effects I have. Well... unless I REALLY LIKE everyone at the party. :D

I was just wondering if there was some other advantage to breaking up/grinding it... am I missing out on something fabulous?

Might want to try it out and see. As I said before, sometimes grinding the weed gives a better taste. Yet, with another type of weed breaking it up by hand seems to taste better.

Won't know unless you try it.

i did it by hand or with scissors for years.
a friend had a grinder and worked well for
joints. so i ordered 2 of them s/s and 4" around
i can toss a small handful in there and grind.
that is for joints. when i am taking bong hit's
i pluck pieces off the bud from bottom up.
so i use both.
