I hate how you can't even watch a college football without seeing corporate feces all over the place.

The only thing I watch anymore is college football.

Watching TV for hours on end is terrible for the brain.

We do it to experience things that others do.

In other words, instead of playing video games, you could watch something on TV saying how video games affect people.

Instead of actually going to a beauty pagent, you watch one.

Instead of doing anything, you can vicariously experience it - all while the TV shapes and modifies what your experience is and makes you think certain things.

Whether it's one's own narcissistic traits or one's own fears -those fears of those people are projected onto the character and they are made to relate. It changes our thinking.

Look at all the "pot" stories in the news. They're always being creepy in their observations and kind of step back and dissociate from the topic, because they don't get high themselves and also proclaim to take an uncertain view of it, all while portraying negative views and connotations as they are a syndrome, like motivation or how concentrated hash is.

It's all made to desolidify one's thinking and to play on their belief that "drugs are bad" while they give their children adderall and drink.

Look at how many people "double-think." Their opinions are so flimsy. They'll say to you they don't believe in the surveillance state, and then rat you out because of pot. While their friend gets beligerantly drunk and they smoke - setting up their child for smoking too. And blames the ADD of the child who is taking adderall on the mother drinking while pregnant.

People don't think. They just want to have the right answer. Some people actually get pissed when they're debated and start posturing like "Yea, I'm pissed now and I have all the right answers, I don't know why this dude has a problem with me." They take it to heart and think you're just against them. All the while disregarding the truth and saying they have a problem with YOU. When you have a problem with their disinformation. They learn from others by hearsay, and can't debate. They don't know any science, they might just say it's all dumb and "when have I ever used it."

We have reached our lowest point and still digging , when it comes to the media and what we put on TV to make a buck . IN a age where every grandma has a tramp stamp LOL (no offence lady's) , And if watching the Lady's of basketball house wives fight is'nt good enuff ... Why not watch Mob wives pull each others hair out . Still not good enough ? Lets get the doctors wives to show there just as Ratchette Lol , shit's crazy . Tho Little Boo Boo's family may do charity work Ignorance is ignorance may be entertaining but it is wat it is across the board , I could go on and on . No way i would let my children watch that crap if i could avoid it .

College basketball junkie myself, and agree about the corporate crap, even name stadiums and arenas for corporations now. The NCAA and member institutions are extremely hypocritical and makes a lot of money off of those young athletes.

I watch a few cartoons in addition to hoops, but I wouldn't piss on the majority of television programming if it was on fire. Well, maybe if I pissed napalm.

Some way to go down yet if the sheep will watch or subscribe , looking at stuff from south america in particular.

When i was a child there was just the BBC in black and white on a murky wobbly 425 line display with a 12 inch screen , took 15 minutes to warm the valves up and it heated the room as good as the coal fire.

The remote was a snooker cue , when we eventually had another couple of channels to use it on.

The modern displays , HD colour , CGI effects and vastly better sound dont make up for bad or clichéd ideas and poor scripting.

Worst of all is the dumbing down of science , makes me cringe sometimes at the generalizations and inaccuracies they spout.

I lost all hope when they started Afflac starting sponsoring the Heisman Trophy and some commentators starting calling it the Afflac Heisman Trophy.

:puke:

No shame.

the responses here did make me smile its all so true..

I generally watch documentaries on history or science I like discovery channel mostly.. but I think every need to vegetate and watch some shit tv now and again... problem is its so shit its hard to bear. in the uk we have shit like hollyoaks and the only way is Essex, aswell as big brother etc.. its such ridiculous story lines or helpless reality tv its actually painful.

I grew up as a kid with 4 channels that's all we had in the uk.. when they put karate kid on one night we were all chatting about it in school the next day.. we had like the cool action heroes Rambo and terminator etc. even films are just completely bunk. what do we got now? knocked up and films like that. im actually one of the biggest hater of friends aswell but even that I could bare. I feel sorry for my kids..and myself lol thankgood for icmag lol

This may be low rent t.v but the honey boo boo clan had a charity drive at Christmas time. They all pitched in to set up all the displays and what not. These kind souls spent a whole week in an effort to help the hungry. In my book, that goes a lot further then their personalities.

They came up with 15K for the needy.Show,or no show, they do this every year.WOW!

now im gonna be honest. millions of people do stuff for charity. so do I give to charity sometimes. it makes you a good person but doesn't make you interesting enough for tv.

plus do you think its kind to allow your daughter to get that fat at such a young age? that's bad for a kids health and sets bad examples to other less educated folk... no offence.

do you watch the show?

My parents bought me an HDTV 24". I don't know why, maybe they think it will connect me back into the programming of society. :headbange

The thing is, I haven't watched TV at all and it's a computer monitor!!! If anything I search for free movies and shows. If someone wants me to pay, they don't want to entertain or want me to watch - they want my money and they want my mind.

I once saw a contact solution commercial that showed the blurred vision of mother while driving, with her child in the back seat.

This is saying, your child will die cuz of your blurry vision. Wear contacts.

Then the Above the Influence commercials with that chick that gets her picture sent around the school for doing something stupid while she's high.

The thing is - people are less pissed, less guarded and more likely TO TAKE TIME to think about something on pot. Alcohol does this. And if she were above the influence, she would be above the influence of her peers - who are assholes and not her friends at all.

Plus, all those commercials running at night, claiming to do amazing things for your life or make you think they need their product.

They take advantage of people who are up that are worried or depressed and thinking.....because those are the only ones watching those commercials. :thank you:

You'll notice the last sort-of-thing I was talking about, happened in Requiem for a Dream. :sasmokin:

television is a massive global addiction

an addiction, at the most fundamental level is about wanting to change one's state, one's feelings and emotions.

if a person feels like shit, he can drink, smoke, watch tv, overeat, have sex, masturbate, or do another billion things to change his state

the actual root of the problem is NOT being happy with what IS at the present moment

Since the majority of folks live in the past or future (in their minds, in other words) - they are always looking for something to change their state, because when you are not in the present moment you will always experience some kind of psychological pain, since you are NOT where you ARE, but instead you are where you are NOT.

'Television is the opiate of the masses'

Edward R. Murrow

....There are some programs that I like to watch, but I avoid all of these so called 'reality' programs and soap operas because I don't learn anything of any substance from them...

I do like alot of programs on the Discovery Channel and National Geo, plus many of the well produced HBO shows and movies......and The History Channel, although lately it's programming has gone beyond history, incorporating hillbillie families that make duck calling whistles e.t.c.......odd to say the least.

T.V. is good as a learning aid and should primarily concentrate on providing that for viewers......but lately it seems to be braodcasting alot of shows for rubber-neckers and people that want to get embroiled in other people's PIFFLE!

we need to understand why tv has the programming it does, and it all boils down to it being a reflection of what most viewers want to watch; and this we know through a little thing called 'ratings'.

take mtv for example, once it was all about music videos, but once their first reality became a huge massive ratings hits, there's nothing to do except to exploit what people crave for, feed it to them like they were hungry little pigs :D

it's a business of entertainment and the name of the game is money, the tv productions that get the big budgets go to the projects that are in-line with the current ratings.

having said that, I don't believe there's any conspiracy behind it, it just shows what people want.

I don't own a tv since my tastes are not represented at all by the general 'ratings'. with the internet I can selectively find whatever I do like to watch whenever I have time for it.

the only reason I'd buy a tv and get cable, would be to be able to watch Argentinian Football (soccer for americans), Copa Libertadores (champions' league of south america), Champion's League and of course the World Cup every four years, in 2014 will be in Brazil and Argentina will win and that will be the end of the world lol...

It is what you make of it... Don't take it so serious... That is why it is called entertainment... You don't have to believe every thing you see on the TV... Oh and I like two broke girls funny ass show... Good Luck fellow humans...

I don't it seriously at all its just entertainment to me...

I don't believe its brainwashing unless your too stupid to see through things like that and if you are that stupid your gonna be more than likely beyond reprieve anyway.

tv is what it is, I do whatever I can to amuse myself during the day then watch something that will make me laugh or educate me in the evenings while im online etc. everyone smokes weed here... its kinda the same thing in a way we all have our little pleasures that keep us going. I even like shit tv when im in the mood but theres a line to be drawn..

some of it (honey booboo) just makes me question wtf is going through someones mind to actually follow that show. maybe im just hard to entertain lol
