1st time grow|Northern Lights|Bubblegum|Big Bud|Afghan

what type of kevins are you running on the CFLs ?, if you use 6500k then nodes will be shorter and less strech, but if you use the 2700k for veging then the nodes will be fearther apart :), but there looking good so far :)

btw veging starts as soon as they get there real set of leafs, you can find out what sex they are by putting them into 12/12 light meaning 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness, after a week or more they will show sex either male or female and if they are female you can either revert them back into veging or keep them at 12/12 to make them produce bud.

but when they flower as its called they will stretch and grow twice there size

also a link to show you how to take cuttings :)

http://weedfarmer.com/cannabis/cuttings.php

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out now...

Ya, I've done so much reading on pre flowers, early sexing, putting them into flower to sex, revegging, all that...

To be honest, freaks me out. Having never grown before and having had very limited exposure to live plants in my illustrious past. I feel like I am just going to have to take my cuttings and keep them labeled. That way, once I am in flowering and the males show themselves, I can rip 'em out of the scrog and cull the clones.

I am afraid, if I try to sex any other way, with my luck, I'll end up throwing away females...

Regarding the lights-I have all 6500k, but one. Can't see what it is-the writing is worn off, its definitely yellow though-gotta be 2700 k. I need it right now man. I literally pulled all these bulbs out of my house and threw them out there.

I am going to order new lights Wednesday. Still trying to figure what exactly...

Thanks so much for checking this out and for your help...

your welcome man :D, the grow is going well :D, when you do force them to flower if you get confused just post up pics and ask :), also if you ever wanna make seeds for future and you get a male you can eaither collect the polen sacks and kill him afterwards :D.

if you have an Asda the biggest bulbs they do in the 2700k range is 20 watt which is perfect for flowering and you will need a fair few there pretty cheap :) about £3 or $1.50

Every thing looks good. Your lighting should be fine for veg. The only thing I saw that Might not be good is the way you tied the stem to the screen. The stem is going to get a lot bigger and the wire from the bread tie will start cutting into the stem. With a screen you don't really need to tie anything. All you need to do is keep the stem below the screen an let the side shoots grow through. As the side shoots grow larger pull them back under the screen. Keep pulling everything under the screen until you get it almost full, then flip to flower. the screen keeps everything level.

I have been growing on a small personal level for many years. I tend to be very brutal in my training methods. I have even tied the stem of a plant into a knot. I have had stems to split down the middle and I Have never had a plant to die from any type of physical abuse. So If I were you I wouldn't worry about killing them by training.

As far as clones go I like mine to be about 3'' long. That is really just a personal preference.

I count veg from the day they break through the soil.

Are you anywhere near arcata? If so hit up the recycling center, you can get a used ballast for almost free, or check humb Craigslist...I really appreciate the effort you are putting in and if you were near me I'd give you all the equipment you need for free...I have a huge amount of equipment just sitting that would make u puke...I remember what it was like starting out, so good luck and I'll be watching your progress!

And I would keep the males, and go thru them to find a keeper boy, but that's me and you don't seem ready for all that, just sucks to know that very likely a keeper boy will be thrown away!!!

Update-Gonna need a consult!

TubeDude-Once again your help is invaluable! Thank you! I still haven't checked my amperage. Need to do that. And, yeah I was wondering about those bread ties. They sucked, anyway! Good news is, I totally get it now. Just over under over under and so on. Much easier. Bad news is, I just broke the top off of my Northern Lights. Cuz....I'm a dumbass. What now, everything I just learned about cloning has fell out of my head as I stare at this quadriplegic top. Pictures are below. Fuck. I know, high drama-it's just one little plant. But I don't want to lose it! I'm hoping that the way you've described what the plant can take, that it'll come back swinging.

WOW! Look at you getting all fancy! That's awesome, GP!

LTTG-thanks! Fancy sometimes takes a left turn, look what I did to my poor plant!

Sungrown-Not in California or I would totally check that out. Thanks for your support and kind words. About the male, I am thinking about it. When I started this thread, I thought I could just stick a male in a separate room and farm seeds. Just had no clue. Since then I have done a ton of reading. My brain's fried. But who knows, I may just set one male aside for good measure. Thanks again, your input is welcome!

Now, on to the carnage.

It's Day 22 from seed.

The plants are spread out in a much better fashion. Bread ties have been removed.

These are the two Bubble Gum and one of the Big Bud:

Big Bud:

Another Big Bud:

What's left of My Northern Lights. If you could see me running madly into the house you'd laugh your ass off. I held it like it was a severed limb, almost wanted to cry. I had no scissors, no water-I felt it snap and I just tore and ran. Freaked out on the asteroid.

Anyway here's what it looks like, now:

What to do with it?? And am I crazy or do I see early signs of sex?

The severed limb:

Doh!
Help.

Sheesh, ***Correction, as I can't edit. Above where it says-Another Big Bud, that's just a wide shot of the Northern Lights break.

Wow, you and I BOTH had traumatic events today! My LP fell over and got squished between the side of the pot and the wall. I about had a heartattack when I walked into the room (I don't know how long it'd been like that -- I last went in about an hour and a half before, so at least it was less than 90 mins).

Maybe just pretend you were topping the plant. It'll get bushier! Yeah! That's it!

Perhaps the top will root, and you'll have a nice clone, too :)

Don't worry about the break, It will recover in a day or two. You don't have to go over and under. Just pull everything under, the screen will hold it down.

Damn. That's how I broke it. I didn't realize you wanted leaves under the screen. I thought that everything should be laying on top. . . ??

Scrog seems complicated, but the photos I have seen in later stages are amazing! I am definitely going to watch how this goes for possible future attempts of mine :)

Yikes! That sucks, I am certain she will recover...I can just picture you walking in there and seeing that, because we are totally doing the same thing. I am home alot right now and check the plants like every hour.

Ya, I'm having technical difficulties for sure. Never mind my head is swimming with genetics and cloning and breeding and seed harvesting and light spectrums and hydro and on and on...

Ya, I feel like I just don't get it, the SCROG grows I have been looking at show the leaves growing through and folks spreading them out. That's why I think ok, over the bar-now the leaf is under. Back under and now it's on top again- kinda 'strapped down and 'splayed out'.

But I think what Tube Dude is saying is that anything that is growing above my 'screeny canopy' (totally showing that I'm a chick here-lol), I can just push under the screen. It'll work it's way back up then? What if it doesn't? If I keep shoving them under then they will be under the screen and possibly under foliage thereby not getting enough light.

I think I am thinking way to hard.

Hey GreenPrincess, looking good! Don't worry about trying to weave the plant up & over the cage. Just keep pulling new growth down & under the cage. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.

Hey Clear Cutter-

Thanks. I figured. I just really am on a steep learning curve here.

Listen, this is off topic, and unfortunately I cannot ask you privately. I just saw that my name was included to PM Clarence for the HortiLab Sweet Pink Grapefruit BX test. I am supposed to PM, but I don't have those privileges yet. And, it was advised to PM your safe 'addy'. What is safe exactly in this game? PO Box?

And thanks again for the advice. Do you think where the Northern Lights was ripped it will produce new shoots, or has that ship sailed...
