MH vs HPS in bloom

Funny how the new Lights Interaction 315w CDM Fixtures are called "Plasma killers"

Plasma Lamp: 300W Input, 300 micromol / s output.
Daylight lamp: 350W Input, 600 micromol / s output.
yes, it is pretty funny as the spectral quality (incl. UVA and UVB) does not come near the plasma lamp ;).

Also let's not forget that MH is also still a very hot light source. In professional climate rooms we install more and more plasma lighting.

You need to see the CDM more as a replacement for a plasma lamp + HPS lamp. So for a 1000W HPS + 1 plasma light you need to buy at least 4 CDM fixtures to get the same light levels. 1060+270=1330W for 2400 umol incl. UVA and UVB, CDM solution 4x550-1400W for 2400 umol, so the combination HPS/plasma is still a tiny bit more efficient. Also take the annual 4 lamp (and reflector) changes against one 1000W HPS. For large production purposes the 315 is just a bit too small. In a 6x3m space you would need about 26.000 umol for 1000 umol m-2 s-1 average, which translates in 32 fixtures (taking the reflector losses into account) compared to the 8 plasma and 8 HPS fixtures.

The plasma lamps are slowly increasing in efficacy, the new models use only 270W which is an efficiency increase of 10% already. Larger models are expected Q1 2014.

But.. for small grow rooms and mothers and low rooms they certainly have their place in the market. More small lamps give a good efficiency at close distance. The spectrum is really nice, and plants grow very well under them. Nothing wrong with CDM, on contrary. It just has a different place in the market and will not kill plasma at all.

I have started flowering some clones under grow t5 bulbs( I know not MH) but anyway they are takimg much longer to trigger flowering. Has anyone else notices this? Maybe the red in hps spectrum triggers flowering faster than all the blue in grow bulbs and MH.

There is no comparison between a high output bulb and a low output like a t5 or t8. Those style grow lights (low output), arnt meant for flowering. They are mainly used to veg plants and keep them growing at a slower rate than a high discharge setup. Apples and oranges my friend.

Idk man t5 light vs MH should not make a difference 12/12 just to sex some clones. I'm not talking full flowering. Damn zz that's one hell of a t5 show. Who's white Russian is that?

Thanks HIG...:tiphat:

They're Serious Seeds White Russians...

Ran their White Russian, AK47 and Bubble Gum under T5's in this thread...

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=252477

Tested different spectrum's... all 3000K, mix 3000K/6400K and all 6400K...

[Great thread, but to summarize--From your post #397:]

"Traditional is to run 6400K during Veg and 3000K during Bloom but I like the 50/50 mix myself all the way from Veg to Bloom...

I did all three Temps this last grow and all did well so the choice is yours..."

LEDfoot Great Pick, Good to know People are Reading My Threads...:tiphat:

That was then and this is Now...:ying:

I'm Seeing a Increase in Bud Production with 6400K over Mixed or 3000K but it's still not conclusive as is life...

I've always believed that higher colour temperature bulbs produce more uv-b, atleast in CFL. My buds were always frostier under 6500K CFLs than under 2700K. I've even seen the decrease in trichome coverage when I changed from 250w retro white (cmh) to 315w agro (cmh), the 250w retro white is 4200K and the 315w agro is 3000K.

well for many years i ran HPS and MH side
by side. with my 1 strain the MH side had
the largest buds. so i use MH only anymore.
now with diff strains it might be different but
with this 1 i grow MH makes bigger tighter buds.
so i run 2 MH since i learned that i could use my
HPS ballest with a MH bulb in it. bulbs are cheaper
also. so new bulbs each round.
